Nintendo Japan held a conference Wednesday night at about 11 PM Pacific time. It was there that Sonic was confirmed as a playable character. Sonic would later be confirmed again, an hour later on the official site. They also confirmed online multiplayer and online co-op play, but had to give the bad news of a delay for Japan (to January 24th, 2008).
Today, Nintendo of America held a press conference for us here in the states. The only big announcement different from what was already discussed was a delay for the US as well. We aren’t getting it until February 10th, 2008. The reasoning is the same old thing, “We wanted to make sure the game is perfect,” and such. Personally, I think it has something to do with Sonic’s late addition, but I won’t get started on that.
The other big thing you should know is that in addition to a Sonic trailer for Brawl, they had a general trailer for the game that included video of both Fox’s Final Smash (the Freakin’ Huge Landmaster) and the Retro Andross Assist Trophy. It also has a few brief seconds of the Lylat Cruise level. Watch the video here.
A demo version of Brawl was playable at both conferences. It’s probably the same demo that will be playable at E for All on October 18th, so don’t expect people to start discovering on their own new secret characters in the coming days and weeks.
That said, the Lylat Cruise level is one of the ones available for play, and I’ve just found a video that shows more than just a few seconds. You can watch it here. In addition to going through the Cornerian atmosphere and the Star Fox/Star Wolf space battle, an additional scene is Meteo, dodging between huge asteroids. The ship warps through these locations constantly.
Whew! That’s all I have for now. Enjoy!
