I just had another one of my crazy forum ideas, which I honestly don't expect to be popular so it probably won't happen, but here it is:

The SFOConomy. It would be a virtual economy for SFO.

Basically, you would get rewarded for participating in the community with some kind of points. These points would be usable in a shop to purchase cosmetic items.

Items in the shop would be purely cosmetic in nature. Things like custom titles or changing the color of a thread title. Maybe even collectibles, like a little Arwing or something.

Like I said, purely cosmetic. I wouldn't do dick things like making you have to buy access to important forum features like avatars or sigs with points.

There is also a lottery system in this mod which would allow both drawing and scratch-off-type tickets. It can also do stock markets so you can invest points in boards or whatever.

I'm not 100% on the details of the stock market, but if it works the way I think it does, you can invest in boards.

Just a warning, if this happens, the IPO stock price of The Rec Room would be high.

Surprisingly, the reaction the the idea is far more positive than expected so far.

I love investing and follow the stock markets and it's respective news daily. I like this idea, and the entire concept.

I found the site for the mod. I'm not sure if I can granularly create a stock for a single board or if it is for all posts everywhere.

But, I COULD create stock in individual users. That could potentially be a shop item: Buy an IPO, and I can set it so other members can invest in you.

I could also create random stocks that use a PRNG to generate whether a stock goes up or down. Would you like some shares in Space Dynamics?

It does sound interesting, but it would require a bit of thought, if you do decide to take this road, make sure it's all planned out first. Other than that, most interesting, it has gained my attention.

This actually sounds like it might be a good way to get more CCI work to happen. Offer rewards for folks that do it and I'm sure some people will be all over it.

OK, I've installed the mod. It is currently disabled until I get it configured, so if you try to go to it now, you'll just get an error about it being disabled.

You can literally create a complete virtual economy with this thing. Banks, credit cards, loans, stocks, goods, item trading, etc.

So, it will take me a while to get this figured out.

I like the idea, it'll give me (and others) the insentive to pay more attention to the forums, and to post more. Plus, it is a reward in and of itself which is always fun. And its like one macro game that the whole sfo community can join in on. I would just like to see a list of what things would give us "x" amount of points.
