DZComposer
I know that the site has been getting slower over the past couple of months. It appears that the spider for the Chinese search engine Baidu is slamming our site every day, clogging the server with upwards of 50 connections simultaneously. I am working on trying to block it, though it is a tough one to block. Hopefully, I will be able to block it and the the site speed issues taken care of. The Shaper
Oh good I was concerned my internet was getting slower outright.
jesseboyd7
So that search engine was performing an annoying DoS (Denial of service) attack? Thats messed up... Would blocking their IP solve the problem or is it more than their IP doing it?
Steve
Can't we just block all China and be ok with that? it's not like we get Chinese members and the internet can provide you with all the ranges. Some pages actually do that http://www.parkansky.com/china.htm
Redeemer
We were pretty slow this morning but things are a little better right now. For me, anyway.
Fluxy
Last night was pretty bad regarding speed, but now over here [PST] it's looking pretty clean with the speed. I'm able to look at the threads and all without a worry. Now, I don't really understand why it'd be so fluctuating really if someone is just hooking tons of connections. Are they just doing it on and off randomly?
Arashikage
Okay sorry, I had to. Anyway, the site hasn't been very slow for me, well not unusually so. I recently downgraded in internet speed, so I might not have been able to tell. Besides the fact that when I load youtube videos I can barely browse the site. LoneWolf
Alright, good to know. My internet got a lot faster recently, then suddenly SFO is slow. There can be only one explaination...
CrypticQuery
At the moment, SF-O is unrelentingly slow; it takes just about three plus minutes to load a page. It seems as if the slowdown always occurs late into the day.
sjrathbun812
So that's why it was being so slow, huh? :/
chaos_Leader
I'm feeling that slowness now... Don't the Chinese have better things to do than clog a Star Fox fansite?

CrypticQuery
Okay, pinpointed a specific timeframe. Close to 10:30/11PM EST things get unrelentingly slow, but clear up within several minutes at a time. With slowdown beginning at roughly 11PM EST, things are back at reasonable speeds at 11:13PM EST. They become varied later but mainly retain a useable speed.
Gestalt
Its Not Getting that Slow is it?
DZComposer
I've been able to keep the Baidu bot out, so there must be something else going on. I'm starting to wonder if it is the stats tracker I have. It writes stuff to the DB every time a page is viewed so that I can tell how many people visit the site and which parts of the site are a big draw. I wanted to keep that stuff internal for privacy reasons, but I may have to switch to something like Google Analytics. It turns out GA has a setting to prevent it from sharing data with Google's ad network. If I were to move to that, I would enable that setting. Note that Google Analytics does not mean AdWords or AdSense. I will NEVER put ads on SFO.
