DZComposer
I've had an idea for a while to start a podcast for SFO. I'd like to implement it. Do you guys like the idea? Here's what I would cover: SFO happenings perhaps happenings on other forums that are significant to the fandom as a whole (IE, posts that bring attention to things in one of the games). I could delegate this out to someone to do as a report segment Star Fox news Site news Possible summaries of some articles Any other thing of interest Also, if one or two of you guys wish to do a report every episode, let me know. Perhaps one for the RPs or something. I'll plan to release the first episode Monday or Tuesday. If you have anything you think might be worthy of mention on the show, please PM or E-mail me. As far as episode length and the frequency of episodes, I am not sure yet.
TakeWalker
As I barely know what podcasts are, and lack the equipment to receive such things, I'll vote it "unnecessary". That's not the same as "no", mind.
Mr. Krystal
I'd do it!
ArwingMaster
Sounds good to me. I'm still new to podcasts, but all ones I've run across are video files, is ours going to be a video or only audio? And if its a video, will you need an editor to put together all the video clips from the different segments? The other question that's been bugging me. Especailly with Red vs Blue, do podcasts cost anything? As much as I like RVB, I sence an alternative motive to just making people laugh, its a lot of work for no pay. DZComposer
The SFO podcast will be an audio podcast. Audio podcasts were first, and they aren't a monstrosity of megabytes like videos are. I have the needed equipment and I will do all the editing and such. People who contribute segments will only need a microphone (higher quality preferred, but not required) and a soundcard with a MIC IN (like 99% of soundcards). Conall Drest
Ill do it once I get a better mic probably.

If you have anything you think might be worthy of mention on the show, please PM or E-mail me. And how's this for an intro? http://www.classicalhorn.com/hosted/introannouncer.mp3 There will be music behind it. I just haven't written it yet. "As I barely know what podcasts are, and lack the equipment to receive such things," So, you don't have an MP3 player? That's all you need. Mr. Krystal
And how's this for an intro? http://www.classicalhorn.com/hosted/introannouncer.mp3 Absolutely not! Be serious okay? Though I do like the "every episode is another barrel roll." Funny! Edit (a little later): I spoke with DZ and we came up with a few topics to talk about and such. Here's a tentative topic list for the podcast: Starfox-Online Podcast: Episode 1: Topics Welcome *Theme* Introduction (hosts introduce selves) Starfox-Online Podcast News: ______Hosted on Odeo. ______Future plans. ______How to contact us. ______Call for "special reports." Starfox-Online Updates: ______Site is back up. ______Using a CMS called Joomla. ______Short description of how it works. ______Planned content. ______Theming the site. ______Call for content. Forum Updates: ______Something Awful fallout. Star Fox News: ______Command countdown. ______New Command sites up. ______New videos. ______Rumors and speculation. TakeWalker
So' date=' you don't have an MP3 player? That's all you need.[/quote'] Nope. Don't really need one. I have all the music I could ever want on my computer. It's not like I go out or anything, sheesh.
DZComposer
By MP3 player, I meant anything that can play MP3s, be it windows media player or an iPod.
TakeWalker
Ahh! So podcasts are just streaming audio/video? Yeah, I've got Winamp. I always assumed that, since 'podcasts' was coined to describe this type of media, it necessary to posses an iPod (or similar device, the emphasis being on externality here) in order to partake of it. Mr. Krystal
Yes. What is Podcasting? Let's start with the basics. First, there where newspapers. No-one reads everything in a newspaper because it's too long and you probably aren't interested in everything in them. But newspaper publishers want you to buy and read their product, so they make headlines. Those headlines tell you in just a few words what the article is about, and then you can judge for yourself whether to read that article or another. If you apply this idea to the internet, you get RSS (really simple syndication). Basically, it's headlines for websites. You subscribe to an RSS feed, and every time you load your RSS feed reader, it checks a tiny XML file on each site, looking for new information since the last time it checked. If there are updates, the feed reader shows a title (the headline), a short description, a date/time, and a link to the main article. Through RSS, you can check for updates for 50 sites in only a few seconds, and then pick and choose which you want to read more about. Websites that typically have RSS feeds are news sites, blogs, and any site that gets fairly frequent updates. However, RSS technology isn't limited to simply text. Links to things other than websites are possible. If there is a link to audio, it's a podcast. The same goes with video and videocasts. Feed readers are usually specialized. The ones for text feeds aren't really designed for podcasts, and vice versa. iTunes is a wonderful free program by Apple which allows one to subscribe to podcasts easily and manages the downloaded files for you. The iTunes Music Store also lists podcasts free of charge, so that is a great place to search for them as well. - From my "What is Podcasting" Article. You don't have to subscribe to podcasts either. You can just download them by themselves (as MP3s) or listen to them online.
TakeWalker
Actually, that's more useful for the "What the hell is RSS?" question I've had for a while. Good analogy. Granted, unless the SFO podcast had something special which really made me want to listen, I wouldn't bother, since I spend most of my time listening to music anyway. And trust me, no one listens to music the way I do. <.<
