Hardscoping.

It's come to my attention that there's a term that originates mostly from Call of Duty, but it's applicable in any game with a sniper rifle. It's called "Hardscoping." It's looked down upon by hardcore gamers for being cheap and skilless ways to use a sniper. What hardscoping entails is looking down your scope for a perioud of time greater than one second, making sure the shot is lined up, and holding your breath if need be. In other words, it means aiming properly. This is considered a cheap, skilless, noob tactic.

What the fuck of the King Fuck in the Royal Fucking Court of Fuckerlot is that about? What is the, ohh, let's call it a "thought process," behind that? If someone gets kills without actually aiming properly, that's when it's a cheap, skilless, overpowered tactic!

I weep.

I hate CoD players and elitists who think playing properly is noobish. The whole goddamn point of a sniper rifle is a long range precise shot, not a glorified musket.

Fuck this gaming era. At least when Ken's Shoryuken was bitched about they had a point.

Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with, and often do myself, bitching about things that are actually overpowered, skilless, noob tactics. For instance, one thing I often bitch about in TF2 is mindless, skilless demo sticky spam. Not saying everyone who does it is a noob, but "I r gud demoman, I clik M1 and M2 az fast az i can, and tingz dye" requires all the skill and mental capacity of a lobotomized baboon that's been dead for two weeks. Unfortunately, the tactic is so easily used to get kills, that everyone does it basically (except me, who doesn't even have the default sticky launcher on his loadout because it's been so tainted). I had one week where demomen accounted for easily over 60% of my deaths, and that entire week, I only had two deaths to demomen that weren't from sticky spam. Once to the default grenade launcher, and once to a demoknight. Two. Fucking. Deaths. Didn't even step into a sticky trap. I'm sure people with an "Anything and everything to win" attitude find that to be completely and totally fine, and that's why I avoid comp games like the plague. Well, that and body shot snipers.

But this, though, is people bitching because, "z0mg, that sniper aimed at, and shot me in the head! What a scrub because he didn't kill me with '1337 360 n0sc0p3z!!!111!11jklsnvjhdbnvlazbxv"

Don't you know? Only noobs know how to aim. True men, like Rambo, just shoot two machine guns up into the air and everyone drops dead immediately.

This is why I like the ARMA community. People play the game properly and don't take chances with fancy smancy n0sc0p3z or 360 jumps.

I can safely say that an aversion to hard-scoping is idiotic. It's just using the rifle for its intended purpose; that's like me using a microwave as a hot-tub. The whole sentiment of HARDCORE vs casual nowadays is pissing me off anyway.

[by the way, I tried out TF2 for the first time a few nights ago; my laptop lags like hell while playing, though I have to say that it was quite fun. ^^]

I actually hate sniping in CoD, I would much rather use the Type 95 with rapidfire and red dot line. That gun is a total beast, I've gone +40 in games.

Well that's because Call of Duty auto-aims for you, and every gun has perfect pin point accuracy across the map.

ooh! ohh! a COD bandwagon!

Quick! lets all publicly declare our hate for a video game because some people like no scoping!

Quick! Lets all lament how every video game isnt like TF2!

Quick! Lets all go on ARMA 2 and either Wait two hours before dying in three seconds, or lag to death!

I remember when being a hardcore gamer meant you were good at pretty much every game you played, most of these "hardcore" kiddies nowadays would cry at the sight of Ghosts 'N Goblins and all it's hard compadres.

Oh, man, this is serious? There's actually a term called hardscoping and it's considered CHEAP? WTF indeed.

That's absolutely crazy. Call of Duty of course, though.

I enjoy some CoD multiplayer from time to time but snipers are useless. I can see why people made up a term for the actual use for a sniper rifle. Since you CAN'T DO IT on CoD's super small maps.

Ridiculous.

And the fact that these little kids on CoD these days call themselves hardcore is just hilarious. Hardcore is… kind of what Allosaurus said. :

Crazy, crazy, crazy…

The term arose from Call of Duty, but it's applicable to all the FPS games out there, now. HALO, Battlefield, TF2, all that good stuff.

Well, it's all true. While we're on the subject, CoD killstreaks are the stupidest example of gamedesign ever. I'm sure that the team getting destroyed by one guy is JUST the team who also should have to deal with an attack chopper too, or have their minimap taken away, or etc etc.

@Vydrach: Yeah, but at least in Battlefield and TF2, you have to actually aim with a sniper rifle..

The amount of times I heard, "Bambambambambambambambambambambam *reload pause* bambambambambambambambambambam *dead*" in BF3 beg to differ.

Most snipers in BF3 can't aim for shit. Also BC2 and CoD. Basically any FPS game. When you face a good sniper, you know it.

It may all be true but its still a bandwagon.

None of this actually had to do with hating Call of Duty, but the idiots that think hardscoping is a scrub tactic. But since you brought it up:

Call of Duty 4 was the only "recent" one to actually be really good

World at War was pretty fun and Nazi Zombies was a good side game

Modern Failure 2 is the worst game I have ever played

Black Ops went back to being a bit fun, but still had a lot of problems

Didn't even bother with Modern Failure 3, and from everything I've heard, it was a wise decision on my part

I don't hate Call of Duty, I hate select games. Though for the most part, I do hate Call of Duty as an entirety because they make, for the most part, shit games, that only get by from the name "Call of Duty" and the shit community that worships the ground Activision and Infinity Ward walks on and turns a blind eye to all the short comings.

And of course, I am a gun fanatic, and when Call of Duty starts pulling weapon stats out their ass because they've long since stopped test firing their guns, it's a tad annoying, but it's only really bad when videos that have the guns that Call of Duty used in them get swarmed with the idiotic kids or mentally deficient "adults" that accept Call of Duty's stats as the Gospel truth of gun lore, and start talking about the Skorpion machine pistol being "accurate," or things like that.

My personal favourite is when they try to play games without aim assist, where weapon statistics are actually realistic, and all their favourite "Jesus guns" turn out, to be big pieces of shit. "Uhhhnnn, why isn't the M16 killing people in one burst?" "Why does the Glock 18 aim at the ceiling if I fire it fully automatic for more than a second?" " Why can't I empty my Desert Eagle clip in less than a second?" "Why is the Uzi missing so badly?" "I shot that guy twice in the leg with my semi-automatic sniper, why isn't he dead?" "Why does my gun start to randomly miss if I shoot at people? Recoil? What's that?"

There you go. Some "bandwagon" Call of Duty hating, since you asked for it.

I have to disagree on the "proving your point" bit. Bandwagons are traditionally things that people jump on just because it is popular, i.e. it is popular to bash on Call of Duty. Vydrach is actually giving good reasons as to why he dislikes the series. I wouldn't quite call that jumping on the bandwagon. :)

I've seen something like that before:

There's an online game known as S4 League. One of the quirks is that you can side-step and jump around to dodge bullets, clost the distance and counter-attack. You know, skills-

Oh wait. No. Those people are noobs with no skills. A TRULY SKILLFUL player will sit around, get blasted and killed while trying to get his own kills.

This topic is about hard scoping, not Call of duty bashing. people immediatly jumped on the call of duty band wagon the minute it showed up.

I don't think it n00bish to actuly use the sniper as it was ment to be used, I meen they gave it a scope for a reason, if some one wants to be a geek who can noscope thats cool with me but they sholdn't complain at us people who actually have a life for not being that good.

Out of the 24 posts in this thread, only three to four are distinctly about distaste for Call of Duty and use it as their only subject matter. Not to mention CoD is the most relevant in this topic; the term noscoping first originated there anywho.

Definitely one of the smallest bandwagon's I've seen, do you think they even have a tuba?

Referring back to no-scoping, I wonder what was going through a person's head when they thought of using a sniper rifle in a completely ridiculous manner...
