Kal
It's come to my attention/realization that I have, at the time of this post, less than three weeks before I head off to Cambridge, Mass. "Sounds good," you say, "but what does that mean for us? We can live with a few days without Kal." That's exactly my point; I don't play on to leave for a few days. Ladies and gentlemen of SFO, I'm putting myself on a sabbatical when I'm at college. In other words, I'll be leaving, and I don't know when I'll be back. Any other college would be a different story. However, I'm expecting to have relatively zero time between studying and...well, studying. I've become obsessed with message boards over the course of the month, and I'm going to drop it cold turkey. I'll still sign on to MSN/AIM like usual, but if you ask me to return after class starts, I will block you. A little extreme? Am I overreacting? Maybe, but a wise man once said, "Hope for the worst always. You'll never be disappointed and usually be pleasantly surprised." As is such, my last day at home will be August 20th. It's been fun, and thanks in advance. Countdown: One week, OMG!
TakeWalker
Eh. You'll probably find you have more free time than you think. That first year is nice, when you're all "ZOMG GOTTA DO STUFF!" and then you get into a groove where you figure out which corners you can cut to both get your work done and still have fun. Trust me, it happens to everyone. And if it doesn't happen to you, then you must be some sort of egghead robot freak. D: You goddamn cyborg you. Kal
a) As I said, any other college and you'd be right. MIT's...different, to say the least. My host for Campus Preview Weekend (a freshman in Course 16/Aerospace/my intended course) stayed up until 3:00 AM on one problem set. As I also said, I've noticed I've become obsessed with message boards. It's a self-imposed sabbatical, and I would have done it regardless. TakeWalker
Cutting down on your online stuff is often just a good idea anyway. Okay.

Sol-Ratcht Saporro
NOOOOOO!!!! Say it ain't so Kal.....Say it ain't so..... Well, education is always important. So, that is the bigger priority when you are on your own. And Whenever you get the chance drop by every now and then. MIT, huh? That's very impressive! But, like Take said, the first year's gonna be hectic so maybe an extended break is for the best. But PLEASE come back when ever you get the chance! I'm gonna miss you...... Ramuza
Well... hmm I would say good luck in college, maybe you can get online during your vacations.. if your college gives ya any long vacations... well education is probably the best.... hmm.. lol thinking back on it I would cause so much grief staying on messageboards instead of studying... anyway like I would say to my parents or buddies sarcasticly... have fun! Kal
Y'know, I'm looking back at the first post, and I just realized how depressingly melodramatic that was. Yes, I'm leaving, and yes, I'll probably never see most of my friends again; on the other hand, I'm getting really excited about this. It's bittersweet, really; saying goodbye to your life and starting over on a clean slate. It's the second time I've done something like this, but at least this time I got the chance to say goodbye properly. It's a fact of life, and I had fun while it lasted. I still have (most of) my friends AIM names, so I'll still get to talk to them. In short: I'm not so depressed, I'm actually excited, and I just realized how arrogant it seems to be making this huge, "WHOAMG EON8 END OF ZE INTAHWEBZ"-sized deal out of it. Sorry.
