Whale In Sector Y?

This most certainly refers to the original Itoh comics in Nintendo Power that preceeded StarFox on the Super Nintendo. It is a shame that they are no longer considered canon, but if I remember correctly, the whale relates to James MCcloud being lost in another dimension in the comics. He eventually does show up, aboard a large, space-whale like ship. Go figure?

I believe you have to get 100% on the level. At least, that's what I read.

@crazyfooinc: I remember reading a comic about James McCloud being in another dimension in the 1993 issue of Nintendo Power, with StarFox on the cover, my friend had.

Haha, found 'em! I knew that ArwingLanding, another Star Fox fansite, had scans up of the entire comic featured within Nintendo Power. I just recently located them again, here they are;

I don't quite recall which panel/page the whale is featured in, but the entire thing is a nice read IMO. The art is great as well. :)

Did anyone else laugh when they saw the whale flipping around in space? Oh god, that's funny.

Oh I laughed afterwards but at the time I was mostly consumed with WTF?!?! I missed half the items because they daily-doubled my surprise.

I was still  from the whale and then it just started spewing items. :o

From the video I would say it was shitting items. ;)

That's one of the most eloquent was to have put information that I've ever read.

And I loved the animation on the whale while watching a walkthrough; the flapping motion it makes is nothing short of hilarious.

I realize I forgot to post the proof that it was a 100% score:

I'm inclined to agree the requirement is probably getting 100% on the level since the bonus appears just before the final boss.

Are there any other hidden animal friends in the game? If you get like, zero percent on stage 3 does a turtle float by and start to play tennis with your ship and in order to stop him you have to Do A Barrel Roll?

I demand that you write to Nintendo this very instant; they must put this into a game!

For the SNES version of Star Fox though, I've always loved "Out of This Dimension." One of my favorite stages with some excellent music, though it's a shame it loops forever. :)

Yeah, I'll get right on that.

I always thought the warp zone in Star Fox 64 was almost like Out of This Dimension.

I remembered it being not shooting any saved stingrays. :/

Most of the time I get that whale unintentionally, but that's a good thing considering all the powerups being spammed.

I've never seen that before. Probably because I've never made it that far.. I just recently got the game and system about a year ago. My GF's had my SNES for the past few months. I just got it and Star Fox back and it's currently the ONLY game I own for it. lol. I'm too poor to afford the good games I would like to play. I suppose I could just buy a random game and try it..

I still find it hilarious how this event represents the original plan for the SF storyline before there were any major plotholes. Though I do wonder how the story would have been different had they not rebooted the series with SF 64 and actually released SF2. Now if they REALLY wanted to push the envelope, they would have had James face pop up randomly and begin saying something as this occured to suprise the player.
