So much for series continuity... *MAJOR MAJOR SPOILER*

Okay, why make a character who is generally accepted as being dead playable? WHY?!

I had hope for this game fixing some story problems, but it looks like this one may have more plotholes than any other game in the series.

I know. Unless he's only playable in multiplayer or something. And what's the point, Krystal 2 and James have the same stats as other characters.

Well I can't read it, so maybe I'm missing something...

But, I'm sure there are people who still believe James truly didn't die. Isn't there a chance he could be a ghost or something? It might even be Fox in costume, like when you got all the medals in SF64...Surely there's a perfectly good explanation why they did this.

The Katakana reads "Jemsu Makuraudo" or, in English, "James McCloud."

I can't translite the Hiragana or the Kanji, so don't ask.

*sigh* How many times to I have to point out Pigma's famous line?

Daddy screamed real good when he DIED.

[speculation] I'm betting this is either multiplayer or a flashback. Likewise, to explain Krysal2, there'll be a section of the game where you control Bulldog Unit. [/speculation]

You're all missing an extremely important rule of science fiction.

You can never, ever assume that someone is dead until you see their lifeless body.

Just the fact that James was shot down does not mean that he was killed. He's simply missing in action. Most of the characters believe that he's dead, but then again, they haven't seen the things that Fox has. Pigma's quote proves nothing. He was piloting the craft that shot James down, yes. Did he land and pull the body from the wreckage? Can we be sure that James never bailed out? One should also remember that Pigma is a bad guy. Why would he say that to Fox? The answer is obvous: to hurt him. Shake him up, make him angry, throw off his concentration. The fact that Pigma says James is dead doesn't necessarily mean it's true.

You also forget Star Fox tradition. James has appeared in some form in every game since SF64. Even in Star Fox Adventures, one of the tokens you can find contains a message from James. There's no plotholes here, it's just an unresolved subplot. And all of you people who are pitching a hissy fit over this: You haven't even played the game yet. You don't know how or why James shows up. Most likely he'll fly in out of nowhere to help Fox out of a tight spot, say a few encouraging words, and disappear again. No one but Fox will notice in the chaos of battle, there will be more contraversy over whether he's alive or a phantom, and the mystery will be preserved. Perfectly consistent with the rest of the series. The fact that you can briefly control his Arwing in one mission is not the end of the world. You can't say that StarFox is ruined or that this is the worst game in StarFox history before you've even tried the game. Stop complaining and wait to see how it plays out.

^ I agree with you on all of those terms, and there is a slite chance He is a unlockable character for multiplayer. Like in Mario Kart DS, if you beat the game on 150cc (hard mode) you unlocked the NES R.O.B.

I'd like to point out that we never see Mace Windu's body after...well, y'know.

Nor the Borg Queen at the end of Voyager.

What's the point? Nothing, just faulty logic. And it doesn't change the fact that James is in the game (in an Assault Arwing, might I add), whether in multiplayer only, a flashback, or completely resurrected. And I'm still getting this game.

Or, here's a theory; Q-Games is trying to make a lot of throwbacks to the old games. SNES James disappeared, instead of being shot down. [/point to ponder]

Spoiler warning ahead:

THIS IS UNCOMFIRMED!

Apparently James McCloud helps you out on the final mission on Venom...please note that this came from Gamefaqs (rumor city).....so it may not be true.

I never said it was always true. Still, it is not at all an uncommon occurance for a seemingly dead character to come back. The point I'm trying to make is that people shouldn't be acting like James' return is some horrible, game-destroying mistake. It's always been hinted that he could still be alive.

If you want to be technical, it's hinted about 75-25 for him being dead. It's always been a possibility, but...this is Star Fox we're talking about. Most "plot twists" end up unravelling into "plot holes."

...50-50.

-_-....i pity you guys....er....I the foos that hate SF!

Slippy:....er.....don't get me started

Peppy: DO A DARN BARRAL ROLL!

Now there was two (In space and on Venom) spots that James was found.......as a Whale coming out of the Black Hole....and just like at the end of SF64...only shorter....

Now just don't go all Za Wardo on me and WWWAAAAAAAAARRRRYYY!!! me to death because I brought this stuff up......hey I'm just joining in the fun...^_^!

Pretty much. Look, I'm surprised, but there's no way something like this is going to make me not want it. I realize it's strange, but...some of you guys seem to be going WAY off the handle. Maybe it's just me, but I fail to see how something like this would make or break the game for you.

If what Fox P says is true, then I wouldn't be surprised.

Thank you Phazonfox and Kit. Phazon, that's exactly what I think. I welcome James coming back, why do you hate it so much that a character that has been throwing up arguments since SF SNES is finally coming back and possibly revealing what happened to him? I'm glad we get another character, and James is quite a cool character so I see no problem coming back. I'm fairly sure that the dev teams realise the possibility of a MAJOR plothole and will probably try to fix it up. But really people, don't overreact, actually read what Phazon and Kit have written as they have written sensible posts, not flamebait.

Pigma could've lied you know, he is/was a betrayer and there full of lies... I actually never believed James died... So he may be only in multiplayer but I hope not.

The NP comics are Null and Void because SF64 was a remake.

It was a well known fact that Fox Sr. (renamed to James) was still alive in the SNES storylin, but trapped in another demension.

In SF64, while it was never stated outright in-game, it was heavilly implied that James had died.

Plus, a couple of Nintendo sources had said that he was dead.

I'm not saying that him being in SFC is going to ruin the game. All I'm saying is that it is wringing the series story like a dishrag.

Or maybe in several official statements from the creators stating that he is indeed, officially dead, is what pisses us off.

And it's an arrogant move to bring him back to the game.
