So, yeah, I'm a bit into metal and aggressive music, and it appears to me that the two biggest names in mainstream metal are Slipknot and KoRn, so for all you metalheads and headbangers here on SFO, I was curious which of the two you prefer. I'll get my two cents out of the way - in spite of the fact that their lastest stuff hasn't been all that great, I'm a KoRn guy over here. It's nu-metal done right with a great alternative twist, a great vocalist & bass player, bagpipes, great lyrics...yeah, they're my kind of band.

So let's hear it from you guys!

Hi,

neither! Nu Metal is just nothing that I can consider as real Metal. It's just hip hop with some distorted guitars and double bass. Just my opinion as fan of Heavy Metal, Power Metal, Melodic Death Metal and Hard Rock...

I'd go with Slipknot, but to be honest when it comes to metal music I'm more into power metal. Groups like Dragonforce, Sonata Arctica, and Stratovarious. I also listen to fictional metal bands........Like Dethklok, but then again what metalhead doesn't.

Slipknot is the best. I don't know how you can get much more expansive than them. I have their albums from "Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat" all the way to "All Hope Is Gone" and haven't found a song I disliked or preferred not to listen to. Slipknot is definitely not just Nu-Metal, in fact, they're more Alternative Metal. Perhaps a few recommendations would be in order?

I'd try looking up Snuff, Vermillion, Do Nothing/Bitchslap, All Hope Is Gone, Til We Die, Child of Burning Time, Pulse of the Maggots, Vendetta or Butcher's Hook. Be warned of language btw.

I just absolutely love Slipknot, each of these songs are not only much different from the other, but Joey Jordison is one of the best drummers I've ever heard. Being a drummer, I mostly listen to his beats, and occasionally attempt to imitate them. Even if you think KoRn is better, you have to admit, Ray Luzier isn't quite as good a drummer as Joey Jordison.

Sonata Arctica

I love when I find more people that have heard of them. I feel like a metal hipster when no one mentions them in any discussion of metal.

I don't really like Slipknot OR KoRn. They're okay, but I prefer more symphonic metals, like Sonata or Nightwish. (the Tarja era, I'm undecided on their new vocalist)

I've heard of Sonata Arctica too, and I kinda like them (need to find more of their albums).

Back on topic, I'm not a big fan of Slipknot or KoRn. They're okay, just not my kind of metal (though I heard "Vermillon" once and I liked it; but except that song, I don't listen to them much).

I'm pretty much like Sarita and Dublin here, all in power and symphnoic metal (Within Temptation anyone?), though I love traditional heavy metal (Accept and Running Wild FTW), plus some prog metal sometimes. Don't call me for all the black/death/doom/hardcore stuff however.

Slipknot, definatly. They did songs like The Heretic Anthem, The Shape, Snuff, Pulse of the Maggots, and Spit It Out. I heard Freak on a Leash and Korn lost me.

Slightly off topic, but I'll ask now: anybody going to Mayhem Fest this summer?

Same here, if I went I'm sure my parents would kill me. They don't exactly like any kind of metal bands. I'm just in it for the music, I don't particularly take any of the band members as role models, besides Joey Jordison for drumming, I don't know what his lifestyle is though anyway.
