Fana McCloud
So I have this love hate relationship with free form "wander around in a non-linear fashion" games but sci-fi ones in particular, because I like sci-fi and they're just so rare. And that really annoys me. The only ones I've played are NOMAD (this reeeeeally old DOS game) and Evochron Mercenary. Think of 'em as basically like any Elder Scrolls game but in spaaaaaace! I have yet to see that type of game done quite right IMHO, but that got me wondering - are there any others out there that I'm just oblivious to or has anyone played the ones I mentioned? chaos_Leader
The MMO Eve Online could be considered something like this, but that's a stretch, and it's an MMO. Fallout 3 can only be partly considered one of these, but it's Science Fiction in the sense that there are Sci-fi elements in it among other things. Mostly, it's a little odd to write a good Science Fiction setting that is conducive to an open world RPG type setting.

I feel like if I could wrap my brain around how complex it is I would absolutely love it. Problem is I went with the most simple form of raising money and was just a simple mining barge in the beginning zones. Fallout 3 is probably the only game I have played in recent years that really hooked me so much that I had to come back and play it 3 other times.
