Playstation All Stars: Battle Royal [PASBR]

Sony is known for not being able to keep secrets, but with this title in development for over two years, it's a wonder things stayed quiet this long. If you've been out of the loop, Sony released that they would be announcing a new game today, and speculation flew. This game title was quickly found by some astute researches by checking registered domain-names, and sure enough, it was announced.

It is a fighting game, but it is most similar [if not a near match] to the Super Smash Bros games. Personally, I like this style of fighting game; one that you don't have to spend hours on learning button combinations, and still be beaten by someone that was just spamming the attack button. Not to mention that having a Sony version of SSBB is fantastic; HD graphics, expansive character roster, new take on an older concept, dynamic arenas/stages, etc. 3rd-Party characters are also confirmed to be in the game, aside from the [large, I'm sure] first-party roster. From what has been released so far, things are shaping up to be great! [i'm also quite glad that Sly Cooper made the roster, though that should have been a given anyway. ^^]

According to an interview done by GameTrailers, the game will be out this year; most likely in Holiday Season 2012 [November/December]. There will also be four-player gameplay, both locally and online.

Jak, Daxter, Ratchet, Clank, Big Boss, and Solid Snake or bust.

And if only a few can get in...Jak, Ratchet, Young!Big Boss.

this looks exactly like ssbb... the stages, the attacks, the sort of "smash power" like thing at the end... looks like quite a rip off idea wise

I actually don't mind how similar it is; SSBB is really the only fighting game of its particular kind still around, and to have more games within that sub-genre would be fantastic IMO. I'll reserve my judgements for when I play it, but competition will force both companies to work a bit harder on their respective titles next time around.

And there is quite literally no such thing as an original idea in the video game industry nowadays; everything, at its core mechanics, has been done, and I don't mind innovation and improvements on tried and true concepts.

Makes me wonder if there will be any Final Fantasy characters, but seeing as it's no longer a Playstation-only franchise I'm leaning towards "unlikely".

The developers at SuperBot Entertainment have confirmed that there will indeed be third-party characters in the game, though they haven't named any names. There is still hope! :P

>Everyone asking for Daxter

>Only one person mentions Jak

SFO... I am disappoint.

But yeah, Jak and Ratchet are must-haves. If not Ratchet, Captain Quark would be pretty badass as well. Unfortunately, I'm way out of the loop when it comes to Sony characters, so I can't quite remember many other characters they might include. Croc, maybe?

Whatever. It's times like this I'm glad I have a PS3, even if I still have nowhere to play it XD

Ah knew bout this when it was still called Title Fight.

I've been pumped ever since I heard Colonel Radec was a confirmed playable character.

If Kain and/or Raziel are also characters, my body would not be ready.

This looks way too similar to SSB. The good thing about this game would be that gamers who have played SSB would already be used to the style of the gameplay and the speed of the matches, some strategies you can use...etc.

Now that I think of it, we've seen a number of developers over the years try to incorporate an original concept from Nintendo into their own games. Does "Sega all-star racing" (Mario Kart) ring a bell? If I recall correctly, Sega also tried to make their own version of Mario Tennis (We see how well that turned out...) How about RC Revenge/RC Revenge Pro by Sony (CLEARLY a knock-off of the game "Re-Volt" on the N64)? Then i also remember a knock-off of "Wave Race" by Sony as well, but the name excapes me.

Don't get me wrong, these games were fun. I just feel as if a video game company is trying to cash in on someone elses success with there own version of nearly the same product.

It's only a matter of time before Microsoft joins in on the "fun". Though to be honest, Master Chief in a party game would be kind of weird.

BAHAHA "Master Chief Party IV" minigames include whack-a-grunt, warthog sled race, and speed gun rebuilding.

Calling this game a ripoff is goddamn stupid and you all know it. By the same token, Tekken is a ripoff of Streetfighter. Every platforming game in history is a ripoff of Mario. The mechanics of this game seem different enough to bring its own little experience to the table.

Thank you for saying what I was too lazy to say, Milky. This isn't a ripoff, it's just another fighting game in this genre.

I love how Sony talks this up like they came up with the idea of a crossover fighter. It's almost disgusting how much of a blatant SSB ripoff the game appears to be. Oh well, at least there is some nice John Williams-esqe music in the video.

Not that I'm against other companies making this kind of game, it's just that usual Sony arrogance that irks me about this one.

Oh, well. This will come out, and it will be fun, but then Sakurai will drop SSB4 and show them how it's done.

Because tripping and the frequency and method of acquiring final smashes on top of Metaknight was a fantastic idea from Sakurai.

I hate to burst your bubble, but there is so much misinformation in your post that it isn't even the slightest bit amusing. Implying that Mario Kart is the only racing game out there in which one drives something similar to a miniature car is ridiculous; there have been many others before. Arguably, Mario Kart is a ripoff of those terrible LCD-Racing games; they have characters and you can drive things besides cars, so they must be the same. On the tennis subject; anything with a company's mascot playing a sport cannot simply be defined as a complete ripoff. These ideas are a dime a dozen anywho. On the subject of Re-Volt and RC Revenge, your argument is terribly flawed; they were BOTH developed by Acclaim Entertainment, and were NOT first-party titles meant to be exclusive to a single console. Even speaking of WaveRace doesn't count; you're telling me that no one ever made a game about a jet-ski before Wave Race? And regardless of the industry, everyone flocks to trends that are popular and attempt to make their own version. Look at the automobile industry; smaller vehicles are gaining steam in America because of higher fuel prices, but does that make each small car a ripoff of each other? Ford introduced the Fiesta, and then Chevy brought out the Sonic; a clear ripoff? I think not.

__

Keep in mind, I'm not denying that this practice happens, or that PASBR is similar to Super Smash Bros. I think that calling it a complete ripoff is a bit much though.

New character reveal in 35 days.

Please be Kain and/or Raziel.

Or Sir Daniel Fortesque.

Also, we need Garl Vinland.
