Vy'drach
It's $10.00 on Steam at the moment, until the fifth. I know what y'all are probably thinking, why get Morrowind when there's Oblivion or Skyrim, the newer Elder Scrolls games, but Morrowind utilized a different system than either of them, and I wasn't three days into Skyrim before thinking, "Gee, this game is as fun as being bludgeoned by a lead pipe, and not losing consciousness." Then I went and started playing Morrowind again. The sheer size and scape of Morrowind was mind boggling. The continent was huge, it was packed with dungeons, the desire to explore was great. If you saw it, you could go there. Might need the help of levitation spells/potions, but there weren't any invisible walls blocking you. And the character customization was amazing. Granted your physical looks weren't that changeable, as you picked a face, and then a hair style, and that's it, but this is the game where your armour wasn't just head, body, gloves, boots. No, you picked helmet, left shoulder, right shoulder, chest, left arm, right arm, legs, boots, with slots for clothes (jewelry, shirt, pants, belt), and the ability to wear a robe over your armour. Then there's the weapon selection. Oh lord, the weapon selection. Long swords alone had a larger selection than Oblivion and Skyrim, probably the two combined. Short Swords had: Daggers Tantos Wakizashis Shortswords Long Swords had: Long Swords Broad Swords Katanas Sabers Claymores Dai-katanas Blunt had: Clubs Maces Staves Warhammers Axes had: War Axes Battle Axes Spears had: Straight Spears Halberds Marksmanship had: Bows Crossbows Throwing Knives Throwing Darts Throwing Stars And of course these are just the styles, not the quality of the weapons, which have qualities such as: Chitin, Iron, Steel, Nordic, Glass, Ebony, Orcish, Dwarven, Daedric, and a few others here and there. Then there's armour, which is fairly diverse as well since you had light, medium, heavy, and unarmoured, and just as much variety in the qualities and styles to choose from. And then the quests, oh dear lord the quests. The main quest alone, I have only ever done once due to the sheer length of it. There were so many quests in that game, I still have yet to do them all. Hell, I don't think I've ever finished the Thieves Guild quest chain, and only ever finished the Mages Guild and Fighters Guild quest chain once. Plus the game doesn't disallow anything, really. There is nothing in this game you can't fight and kill, really. Except maybe a few Daedric gods. Don't like that crucial quest NPC, you can go ahead and kill 'em. Granted your quest will be forfeit, and if he's part of the main quest, you'll damn Vvardenfell by breaking the prophecy, but you can continue playing in your doomed world. The leveling system isn't botched like Oblivion's or Skyrim's. Instead of things leveling with you (screwing you over if you decide to level off a skill that isn't a combat skill), enemies in Morrowind are rather set, with set levels. You don't go to certain areas at level 1, and if you've maxed out your major and minor skills (five of each, leveling either gets your 10% towards your next level), there are plenty of enemies where you will cut a swath through your enemies with your mighty blade made of a material of your preference. There's more I could rave about, but the message would be too damned long at that point. Also, this only covers the main game, really. The Bloodmoon and Tribunal expansions (included in the GOTY edition) add to the game, and keep the same level of amazingness that Morrowind built. tl;dr, WHY DO YOU NOT OWN THIS GAME ALREADY!? DoctorAllosaurus
Just got it a couple days ago. A little turned off by the graphics (I'm usually not a graphics whore, but 3d games don't age as well as 2d...), but I'm assuming there's a hd texture pack or something out there. Vy'drach
There's one that makes the system requirements for Crysis on max look like they're for a microwave oven.
ballisticwaffles
I would like to point that just because graphics are so good they fry your computer doesnt mean the game is good at all. BAck on topic, since nobody posts anylinks, here is the graphics mod for morrowind from planet elder scrolls. http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=8987 While i admit morrowind is a good game, Oblivion and Skyrim seem superior in my mind. ANd Oblivion is on sale too, both the game of the year and super game of the year. both come with THe shivering isle (The Bestiest expansion pack of ALL time) ANd Knights of the Nine, but super GOTY comes with all the minor expansion packs including the much spat at Horse Armor, 4 diffrent houses, Occams Razor, spell scrolls, and the orrery ( a useless expansion that addss buffs depending on moon phase) Morrowind may be a nostalgia fest, but nostalgia only works if you have the capeability to be nostalgic. For any of you out theer who dont have the nostalgia, pick up Oblivion or Morrowind, or Vydrach and i will come to YOUR HOUSE AND WE WILL CUT YOU. Arashikage
Oblivion > Morrowind Oblivion > Skyrim Just in my opinion, but anyway, I do like the nice selection and explorability of Morrowind, there were lots of places to go, quests to do, and weapons to choose from, I just liked the combat style of Oblivion better, and there are more things you can do with it mod wise. That being said, I already have Morrowind and Oblivion, Only Morrowind isn't the Steam version, a friend gave me the disks.
Fana McCloud
Snagged myself a copy as I only had the normal version and not GOTY, thanks for the heads up. I do like just how surreal and very UN-earthlike Vvardenfell is - IMHO all of Tamriel should be very different from earth.

CrypticQuery
I still can't bring myself to even see the end of Skyrim's main questline, but I'll have to give trying out the others in the series some thought. Perhaps Morrowind/Oblivion will be first purchases once I secure funds to build a capable desktop,
