Icy
Okay, this game… is amazing. I am a huge fan of racing games if done right, and this one IS DONE RIGHT. I love Split/Second, Burnout Paradise, Driver: San Francisco, just to name a few of the more recent, pretty awesome racing games. If you've played Split Second or Burnout Paradise, then you already know sort of what this game is like. It's not at all really like the typical Ridge Racer games. Its main gimmick/feature is the "power" bar that you can fill up in races by drifting, ramming opponents, getting air time, and other various things. Once it's full you can press a button and you get a long, very fast boost to either pass opponents, "frag" opponents (Kind of like a takedown in Burnout), or destroy big set-pieces. Some of them are things like a tanker truck that you can blow up to knock opponents away, then there are some that are breakable walls that open great, action-packed, shortcuts. There are a lot of shortcuts and things rigged to blow throughout each race, and the big thing about this game is that it comes with a built-in track/city-editor, where you can create your own tracks either in a "basic" editor or a more advanced editor that lets you have a lot more freedom. It's also got some destruction in there. Such as little items that normally would stop your car in a game are just a minor annoyance that you run right through in this game. It's really fun. There's also online modes and stuff like that. It's wonderful. I don't have the full game yet, just the demo, which you can get on Steam HERE. Do it. Now. (I'm honestly not sure if there is a demo for PS3/360. I haven't looked and I can't find anything about a demo except for the Steam version on Google) Do I sound a little excited? That's because I am. I never thought there would be another game as awesome as Split/Second (which also features big set pieces and shortcuts, etc) but this game is a lot like it, and any game that has that kind of stuff in it and does it right? Count me in. Anyway, go give the demo a try. If you like racing games and lots of fun then you'll probably enjoy this. I'm just mad that I had to go and find another game to put on my stacked up list of games to buy while I have no money. :V http://www.gamespot....ounded-6369023/
CrypticQuery
This actually doesn't look half bad; granted, the only Ridge Racer game I've played was the original on PS1, but I could warm up to it. At the moment though, as you've stated, there are far too many games on my list to give this one as much consideration, and my pitiful computer doesn't have the capability to run a demo on Steam. Perhaps I'll check the PlaystationStore later . Though I have something to add; on that first video at about 3:52, the second car he hits resembles a 1977-1990 Chevrolet Caprice Station-Wagon. Now I'm sad.

StarFoxfan-FUR_ever
First, let me point out that the first Ridge Racer game I played was Ridge Racer 64 (dont judge me =P). I must say, while this is a completely different feel from past Ridge Racer games where "Drifting" was basically your car suddenly becoming magnetically attracted to the middle of the road (so i feel this style of drifting is more realistic), I feel that similar games with this look (like the more recent NFS and Burnout games) for one reason or another, have not had a lasting appeal IMO. While there is no doubt all of these games have had a major overhaul, it feels to me that the steering is too stiff even at lower speeds (Granted 80 MPH is not slow under street legal conditions...anyways....). The idea of "Takedowns" in a street racing game has really worn off in originality since it is no longer exclusive to Burnout. I think NFS is the only series where "Be a Cop Mode" has been implemented. Keeping in mind the last Burnout i played was "Dominator". Ridge Racer took a turn for the worst I believe with the PSP version of the game. The game felt completely rushed, with little to no tweaking of the drifting system i mentioned earlier, and they said "why not throw in nitrous?" What is nice about this new one is that they will bring back the old "bar graph" vehicle statistics/attribute gauge, which will make simply picking vehicles much quicker as opposed to sitting there trying to judge whether you would preffer a car with [155MPH with 0-60 in 3.6 seconds vs 148MPH with 0-60 in 3.4 seconds] right??? In any case, this new game will try to bring a concept never attempted before in a Ridge Racer game, but I feel that will be its downfall. I hope they can find a balance between the more traditional challanging gameplay found in Ridge Racer, with the "new" Burnout feel to it. This racing series is wonderful overall and it would be a shame for it to go under. Originality in creating tracks and environments helps give Ridge Racer a leg up on the competition as well.
