LoneWolf
LoneWolf's Garry's Mod Addon Starter Guide Several of my friends and I have been enjoying the game Garry's Mod recently. For those of you who don't know, it's a sandbox modification for Half-Life 2 and the Source Engine available on Steam for $10. http://garrysmod.com/ One of the draws of this mod is the extensive addon support. From special weapons to models, there's a few things every player should have. PLEASE NOTE: MANY OF THE ADDONS IN THIS LIST REQUIRE COUNTER-STRIKE SOURCE. IF YOU DON'T HAVE CS:S, YOU'RE GOING TO BE MISSING TEXTURES AND MODELS. GMOD AND CS:S ARE AVAILIBLE IN A PACKAGE DEAL ON STEAM AS WELL. Alright, so first, some of my favorite SWEPs (Weapons). -Firearms Source: Arguably one of the most complete and professional SWEP packs availible. Must-Have. http://bit.ly/MvAxJt -RC's MoH SWEPS: A favorite of mine. Very complete and clean: http://bit.ly/MvAFZr -DurgzMod: Really only fun with friends, it simulates the effects of various drugs. Mostly vision blur and stuff. http://bit.ly/MvAMEw -HAAX!!! SWEP: Related to the popular meme. Cool slow mo and instakill. http://bit.ly/MvASfg -Falcon Punch 2.5: Need I explain? http://bit.ly/MvAUUt -Black Ops Mega Pack: This is an assortment of SWEPS and NPCs from the game Call of Duty: Black Ops. Pretty cool, kinda buggy. http://bit.ly/MvB8uL -Parkour Skill: Whilst not technically a SWEP, it's a really great player side addon. http://bit.ly/MvBd1s Next up: Entities and Tools Now, apparently the best way to get these sort of things is through an SVN. I don't have one, so I don't know much about it. Google is your friend. Anyways, the non-SVN ones that I use: -SCARS 2.0: The difinitive vehicle addon for GMod. I love it. http://bit.ly/MvBpOf -ProBuilders STool Pack: My preferred non-SVN toolset. http://bit.ly/MvBBgv -PlayX: An in-game YouTube player. Works great. http://bit.ly/MvBFwJ -HoverBoard: A good way to get around maps: http://bit.ly/MvBIZF -Garry's Bombs: Bombs. Bombs everywhere. http://bit.ly/MvBQIx Lastly, Maps. Maps are always debatable, and there's hundreds of them out there. Still, here's a list of my personal favorites. Not going to go into descriptions on these. -Spacebuild OMEN: http://bit.ly/MvC8iz -Mario Kart V2: http://bit.ly/MvCbuK -XHS Revolution: http://bit.ly/MvCe9Q -Mobenix V3: http://bit.ly/MvCeH5 -SkyHigh: http://bit.ly/MvCi9K -Townsend V2: http://bit.ly/MvCiGJ -Night Fever: http://bit.ly/MvCkyb -Bangclaw (Note: This map has a really cool labyrinth structure under it, must-see) http://bit.ly/MvCl5k I could go into models, textures, etc. but that would take forever. Please post your favorite addons! If you ever want to play with me, you can find me in the SF-O Steam group under "SawtoothPennanti".
thunderflare
I've been thinking about getting Gmod, is it just a sandbox where you can mess around or can you play with other people? Nice starters guide by the way.

LoneWolf
I've been thinking about getting Gmod, is it just a sandbox where you can mess around or can you play with other people? It's a sandbox where you can mess around that has multiplayer. And honestly, the multiplayer is the best part.
