RUMOUR: Retro Studios are Developing a Star Fox/Metroid Hybrid Game for Wii U

I am VERY MUCH HOPING this is real. 2 of some of my favorite franchises in history coming together would not only be one of the best games on the Wii U with Retro developing it, but would also give more exposure to Starfox.

As far as the hypothetical game goes, the only hopes I'd have for it would be mixing the types of gameplay. I thought up a Starfox-Metroid crossover back when I was twelve or so, I won't be counting on the plot to be very interesting in that case :/

The folks at NeoGaf have rejected this rumor. They think Retro is working on a new franchise. Not sure where they got the info, though, as the WiiU thread there moves as fast as a chat room.

Look, while I think it would be possible for the Metroid canon to take place in another part of the galaxy as SF canon does, I don't want a crossover unless it's some extra amusing bonus, not the entire premise of the game(s).

It's really not too much to ask for a pure StarFox game. Just becuase Retro made some stellar games doesn't mean the crossover will work. I want furry animal jet fighters in space, not that armored space bounty hunter woman aren't awesome.

Speaking of which, how do Metroid fans feel about the crossover?

Went ahead and googled around about it. They seem to hate the idea more than us XD

And while I've accidentally gotten us all thinking about Sonic, we've got to remember how many games in that area have tried to fit too many types of gameplay into one game, with lackluster results. Mixing too many different forms of play won't leave enough room for polishing on things like controls, and then going on to splitting it into two story modes is digging the hole deeper. That's the impression I've been getting from this rumor, for all we know the complications involved could drag this game down to the level of Sonic 2006 DX

I mean you take two of the best games ever and put 'em together. Now I can see some one hating this if someone besides Retro was doing it, but it's RETRO, I mean have they ever made a bad game? I may just be an optimist, but I think this would be a realy cool game. I know there is a 99% chance this rumor is just a load of bull-crap and I'm nnot getting my hopes up, but it would be an AWESOME game.

I wouldn't be opposed to combining the universe of either franchise to something else, but taking a galaxy that for all we know is comprised of anthromorphic animals and sticking humans in it just brings it to a level of "wtf?" Its like I could see some weird crossover of Fire Emblem meets Legends of Zelda, its far more plausible than a fox that pilots a spacecraft speaking perfect "English" (?!?) with Samus. When crossovers are done they need to combine games that are related to each other in some way other than just genre imo. If there was another franchise with talking animals, then maybe StarFox could work with it, but to the best of my knowledge there is nothing else quite like StarFox that is as popular as it so I can't even fathom the possibility.

I imagine the Metroid fans are probably much more outraged than StarFox fans, considering they are probably more confident in the Metroid franchise continuing and having a healthy base of fandom compared to StarFox fans just interested in getting a good game going. For some reason I see them as the more "purists" as far as crossovers with a franchise is concerned.

Because its a sickly existence for StarFox lol. Its like a tumor in this case, piggy-backing off another franchise when it could easily (In fact, MUCH more easily done than a crossover) hold its own in a full length and possibly incredible game. Now, I am admittedly not a Metroid fan and have never found it fun no matter which game I tried. I did try, I just never really felt it. But as I explained, doing a crossover of anthros and humans just sounds bad. It would hurt Metroid, and it would most likely kill StarFox. I think one of the previous posts basically said "I can enjoy fish, and I can enjoy chocolate...but I wouldn't want to put them together" (sorry if the original poster feels I stole the line but I felt it was so perfect). Metroid and StarFox could both be amazing, but they are different flavors of awesome.

Nah, I don't figure you talk too much....I think I take the cake for talking too much or at least making too long of posts sometimes lol :P

Hmm... I just had an idea, what if they made a stand alone StarFox game, then after a few months made DLC that added 4-5 hours to the campaign and was a StarFox Metroid crossover, then we'd all be happy! You know what, that's what I want them to do.

Granted I know very little about Metroid because I haven't gotten around to playing any of them but there is one solitary reason I would even look forward to such a crossover:

humans + Lylat = canonical (possibly)

Cause, yanno, I have this strange fetish for having humans in a furry setting, and Star Fox specifically. :P

I wasnt really a fan of metroid... ever... I dunno if I want it in my starfox, and I imagine some metroid fans wont want starfox mixed with their metroid. If this turns out to be true, then its all going to come down to how they execute it. If they succeed, some metroid fans will become interested in starfox enough to pick up the next SF title and vice versa. If it fails, then everyone facepalms and starfox gets pushed over the edge of the pit of doom, only to dangle there until we ACTUALLY GET OUR OWN DAMN STARFOX GAME. Retro, if this is true, DONT FUCK THIS UP!

I wouldn't mind this either. It doesn't even have to be cannon, but that might be fun as an extra.

I don't care for Metroid games, either. I had Prime for the GC and have the GBA game as an ambassador, and general didn't like the gameplay either offered. I also, unfortunately, discovered first person games can give me motion sickness after a few hours of Metroid Prime.

I asked my friend who is a pretty big metroid enthusiast what he thought of the crossover idea, he thought it was pretty dumb; yet other friends I have asked who are just general nintendo fans thought the idea was pretty cool . However, after giving this idea a little thought, I imagine the story could possibly end up being pretty good, at least for us Starfox enthusiasts. In the description it sas something about crash landing on a planet, what if it was the remains of Cerinia? But I wouldn't bet on that happening. Could make for some pretty cool ground missions though...

I would be ok with an addon to a StarFox game, but I wouldn't want it as canon. I doubt something like DLC with Metroid + StarFox would work especially if the Metroid fans feel like then Metroid would be the one doing the piggy-backing off another game when it doesn't need to. They would probably be the ones to complain more about that idea.

I know there is supposedly the rumor of a new franchise being worked on by Retro...but I guess i'll be the first to say I really hope they are actually working on a StarFox game instead . If they are as awesome and successful at making good games as everyone here says, then I have faith that they could really do something cool with Fox and gang.

This is a very dumb idea! Its like saying Mario meets Zelda. Starfox is more of a fast,short, and arcadeish game while metroid is long and puzzle like game. This has to be fake. Its soooooo random! Do you really think Fox will meet a human, Something he has never seen before. Just think about his reaction.
