RUMOUR: Retro Studios are Developing a Star Fox/Metroid Hybrid Game for Wii U

I still would like to see the crossover be real even though most everyone doesn't. As long as I finally get a new Starfox console game though, i will be happy. E3 is only 2 weeks away so we will find out pretty soon.

it wouldent be a starfox game. Same thing goes to metroid. It would be 50% star fox style and 50% metroid style. This would go in the spin off category of both series. Meaning that nintendo did make a ture game for ether series (if this rumour is ture)

Its kinda dumb that nintendo would mix metroid(a million seller) with star fox (less then a million seller).

After looking at some Metroid forums and what they think, their reaction is pretty much what I expected: "Why should Metroid have to be saddled with Star Fox?" If anything, The Metroiders are even more adverse to the idea than us here: http://www.metroid-database.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=5652

I'd be okay with a crossover, but later, after Retro proves they can do a perfectly fine Star Fox game all by itself, without having to tether it to the back of Metroid. If Retro can pull off the series independent from each other, prove they can make Star Fox stand on its own, then I'd say "go for it" as both series would act as a solid foundation for the collaborative effort, rather than propping up one series with another. And the Retro team would have the advantage of having worked both Metroid and Star Fox prior to the combination, and so be able to do both ends the justice they'd deserve.

Think about it: would the new Avengers movie have been nearly as awesome if Marvel hadn't first made a string of successful films around the main big four (Hulk, Iron Man, Thor, Cpt. America)? Probably not.

That's what I got.

I'm not sure how to feel about this rumor.

On one hand, I can see this crossover happening without problems, even though I'm sure it would take place in a different timeline or... whatever (You know, crossover logic, alternative universes, different timelines and other stuff like that). It's not bad.

On the other hand, I'd really like to see a new StarFox game first.

Have you guys heard? the Metroid and Starfox crossover game has been confirmed by the original reporter of the rumor, Paul Gale to NOT BE REAL. It was however proposed at one point though, but never got past the proposal. Well their you have it, Starfox and Metroid crossover won't be happening. I still feel like they are working on a Starfox though.

What do you guys think?

Alrighty, this only means that now there is an approximate 50% chance I will be disappointed by what happens at E3 (down from a 66% with the possibility of Metroid x Star Fox), and in turn approximately a 75% of me being disappointed in general.

Still hoping for Star Fox, but above all, hoping for something awesome.

Considering next year is StarFox's big 20, it looks very likely we'll get some form of tribute. Isn't this year also a big Metriod anniversary, too? Maybe that's where this bizarre idea of a game rolled from. Laziness! :hehe:

Aww I was hoping that the rumors were true. Metriod and starfox are my favorite series in nintendo. Also I know this is off topic but where can I see E3? Does it come on TV or something? Sorry if this is a noobish question.

E3 is commonly covered by all major gaming-news outlets, though I'm fairly certain you can watch the major press-conferences on GameTrailers or G4. I know that G4 does multiple days of coverage on television though.

Alrighty, here we go...only 3 more days left till the moment of truth! Poking around on Google and E3 blogosphere news there is still rumor that Star Fox will make an appearance. 50/50 shot that our wishes will be granted with favor slightly going towards there being a new SF game. Will be a tense few days personally, who else agrees?

(still crossing my fingers for a result that looks somewhat like the Shadows of Lylat work that I found out about recently)

I agree completely, the suspension is already killing me. Though there is that dreadful 50% chance that we will be extremely disappointed and the anticipation will be for nothing.

As I mentioned, I think there is actually a greater chance than 50% of being disappointed considering after we get through the hurdle of a game even existing, then we have to jump through the loop of it being any good. I just can't help but feel like Nintendo/Retro has so much good material to work with especially since they can comb through fan made material that has promise (as mentioned: Shadows of Lylat, Project SFR, the abundance of art work, fanfictions, and then musical remakes - which I think should find their way into any new game personally. The introduction of more rock or metal based themes for the game with some orchestra like what they did with Halo would be incredible.). It should leave little room for too much error especially after they made two relative mistakes in Assault and Command that they can learn from - that being one was too short and linear and the other being too bad of a story line to fully accept despite what I hear to be decent gameplay.

Still, if they could get a game going they have a pretty good chance of me buying whatever platform they want me to so I can get my hands on it. Whatever comes out, I just hope it sees enough fan attention that it makes Starfox easily marketable again.

Ugh, now I have the feeling of playing a Star Wars game and just interpose Starfox characters as needed to pass the time.

P.S. Now...is it officially 'Starfox'? Or is it 'Star Fox'? I can't quite figure it out honestly and I need to stick to the right one if I want to claim to be a fan lol

It's a relief that this combo game thing won't be happening. First reason being that the only thing SF and Metroid have in common is that they are in space. Though Retro has a history of making great games, this was a bit of a stretch overall. Not for nothing, but as of now, SF is a complete joke to most gamers, and they all blame the storywriters. Metroid has had prequels as well as sequels, but that challenge did not stop the production team from writing a good story.

As for what to expect at E3: For sure Nintendo will let us know some more info on the WiiU, and hopefully a release date to go with it. Possibly we can get a teaser of some sort from Nintendo on a new Smash Bros game? (Gee, when has that happened before?) In general, I hope they show a whole slew of big name titles to go with the preview info.

I would love to see Nintendo suprise it's fans with games like 1080', Wave Race, and F-Zero, but for some reason, those games seem worse off than the SF series even though it would be much easier to slap of those together without much testing. (Except for F-Zero, unarguably the best futuristic racing series ever imo.)

Now that I think of it, we were told last time around that the WiiU would be a system for everyone. They can't blow the opportunity here, Nintendo has to appeal to its older fanbase as well. Based on the current direction of the gaming industry, I would assume they would show a generic WW2-type shooter with a Mature rating. Because apparently, the only games mature audiences play are shooters, right? /sarcasm

I think the Wave Race game they released for Gamecube was a pretty acceptable follow up to Wave Race 64. The difficulty curve is maddening though, but I guess I can't complain too much since it keeps the game from feeling too short. 1080 Avalanche on the other hand felt criminally short and not as challenging as the original. I would like to see a release of a followup to those games though, if for no other reason than nostalgia (but also because it would admittedly be a blockbuster hit compared to most other Wii games imo).

I do have to agree that Nintendo has to change its target audience a little. Mature audiences have better options than slogging through the 5th iteration of Wii Sports or other gimmicky motion control games with no substance or plot. It saddens me when I realized the ye old days of N64 and Gamecube, when I could go to a Blockbuster and scan through the many games I would to rent. I can't even get interested in any of the Wii games unless they carry the torch of an established franchise (oh wait...i have a copy of Metroid 3 I have sitting around for it that i have yet to play...Guess even that didn't work. It got annihilated by the existence of better content, aka, Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts). I don't know about anyone else, but I feel like mature audiences don't really want in on the motion control nearly as much. Nintendo: Give us an option, please! I want to be lazy and lounge on the sofa with my arms hanging loosely at my sides. Marketing for kids is great and all since its an easy audience to target with Microsoft and Sony hitting mature gamers, but I don't think Nintendo has been doing too hot financially with their games if they are having to take away the ability to play Gamecube games on the Wii...sounds like a really mean way of forcing us to buy more Wii games :/

Idea, Nintendo...Re-release ALL (Yes, ALL) of your old games to a digital market for cheap prices. You get to pocket all of the money when a game is purchased instead of it being recycled through game stores as "used" and you don't have to reprogram anything other than creating an emulated environment. I want to play my Star Fox Assault and Adventures, as well as other Gamecube titles you didn't release for Virtual Console. Yes, we want this, and you want the money. Make it happen.

This seemed like an interesting idea to pull off, but really I doubt it would have done well. Still, one can always dream of a mashup like this someday.

THis game will either be the greatest thing man has ever created, or an abomination so terrible ajc will be forced to end his life  lol

i mean it does sound a little cheesy, but mabye will get a ton of new fans since there are quite a bit of metriod fans out there. And if the game sells star fox may go out on the market again

It is down right nerve-racking knowing that the future of Starfox potentially sits at a convention center in Los Angeles...
