Gestalt
Huh, i forgot to ask you, DZ, what do you play? I'm sure if you've mentioned it somewhere before, but my mind fails me. In other news, there is a slight hiccup for me actually getting to preform this piece. I can't seem to find any viola's, at the moment. But, i've got plenty of violinist. If only there where an optional 3rd violin for viola substitution. Well anyway, back to search for canditates!
DZComposer
If you can find a cellist who can read alto clef, you'd probably be better-off, as range issues would prevent playing that part on a violin. Though it would get pretty high for cello, it should be playable as the highest note is the top E in the standard cello range.

The issue of finding to violist is common, so many people transpose the viola part since there are more violists. Overture I'm assuming should be able to do that, then you just modify fingerings and things like that.
DZComposer
Whether or not you can do that is dependent on the piece. I'm pretty sure it will not sound good in this case to just transpose the part up an octave. In fact, the viola plays the bassline a couple of times, and that would just sound bad an octave up. To make it for 3 violins and still sound good would require rewriting the whole thing, as some of the part would need to be traded with the cello.
