New Project? SF-O's Guide to TF2?

A lot of us play TF2 and a lot of us are really, really good at certain classes. We've been getting new people who frequent other parts of the board into TF2 and vice-versa, having people we meet on TF2 come and join our forum. I want to have something that brings that extra personal touch and a little something that helps everyone.

I was thinking we craft up our own guide to TF2 and the classes and items and everything else, made by our members here. Yeah there are a lot of guides, some of which some members have posted their own. I want to bring that together. A guide that is 'ours.'

The main goal is to have threads like this and this condensed and easy to find in a single thread.

Thoughts?

I like it, but I wouldn't consider most of us that amazing, but I'm sure we could build a nice guide with lots of helpful tips. Just read Rob's Medic guide which I somehow never saw before. Some helpful tips in there I'll be sure to remember.

So to answer your question, I like the idea and wouldn't mind writing a bit about Pyro and maybe a little Medic and Heavy. Also a little guide to certain map strategies would come in real handy for all of us I think.

Can't contribute much other than a Pyro guide, but I'd be happy to make my own or help Icy with his.

I would be down for doing a medic-buddy heavy one, or a anti-spy pyro guide.

Well, Firebug, you're the overall better Pyro, so go ahead and write something if you feel up to it. We could perhaps share/compare notes, though. :)

I'd love to hear some Heavy and Engie tips from Rob, Medic tips from Gene, Scout tips from User, and Soldier tips from Milky. Also some notes about Spy from Fureox would be cool. :D

You see the thing is when we do it, we actually hit and kill things.

Well good to see there is some enthusiasm.

Any ideas on how to organize the content? I was thinking of having a 'table of contents' post, linking off to each part of this guide. Another question is whether to spread the guide over several threads, each member making their own personal section, linked to by the main thread. Or to keep it all in one thread and the main post links to each relevant post within the thread?

One thing I also want to keep in mind, is when you are writing your guide. Have it about how YOU play the class or loadout or anything when writing. Me and Rob both play Medic, we both love the Kritz, but there is enough difference between us in playstyle that I could write a Medic guide COMPLETELY different from Rob's. I take this as a good thing, someone could read both, and take small bits of each of our playstyles and make it into their own.

I'll take any good ideas for organization.

Sounds interesting, especially if we can write on how we personally play the class.

Can we do more than one guide if we play multiple classes on a regular basis?

Yeah!

A class could have multiple guide written for it. Like Demoman could have one written by N, User, Icy, or anyone that wants to. As long as your bring YOUR spin to the class, I say go for it. And yes, you can contribute to more than one class.

A section could be divided like this:

  • I. Classes

    • B. Defense

      • 2. Demoman

        • User
        • Mr. N.

Yeah, that format would work, Gene.

If anyone wanted to give map guides a go, then a separate category of "Maps > mapname > username" could be created too.

Hehe, took him a minute, but yes, he understands. Spam rockets and boom randomly ICY DIES!

Look that way, yes. I'll eventually make the main thread with all the formatting and linking, and as people make guide threads, I'll edit in the links.

So categories. Classes; possibly a basic guide. Then each contributor's thread could be an 'advanced guide' for the specifics of how they play a certain class. Weapons/Set/Loadouts could be included in a user's class thread, but in a separate post for organization's sake. Map guide are a possibility.

So anyone interested should go ahead and make their own guide thread for their class(es) and then let you compile them?

That's the idea so far. It can be tongue-in-cheek or as serious as you like, I'll include it either way. :U

Aaaand the thread is up!

So who wants to write the introduction blurb? I'm no good at them and I'm wondering if someone would volunteer their wit for the opening of the guide.
