Starfox 64 or Starfox 64 3D

I got gold on Sector Z after a few tries, it was fun. I go for the medals in score attack mode. Have you got the 3ds version already?

(Holds up a purple object) Yesssir! I love the 3D effect on it and its remastered everything. A few things I'm not too impressed with (Ahem....Those darn A.Is), but it being Star Fox 64, it's obviously good.

A Sector Z tip:

If you lose a wing (And I think you can get a small shield repair, not sure), fly through the BACK of the Great Fox and it will be repaired. The camera will pan around and you will fly out the front.

Yeah, original is better than the remake to me. I've got some issues with the remake.

Huh! Never knew you could do that. Of course I remember as a kid, I always tried flying into the Great Fox through the front and always blowing up. Never thought of trying the back.

I didn't know that too. I have to try that out.

I found that fact on Arwingpedia and tried it out. Though I really don't go to Sector Z enough to really use it.

I tried it and it didn't work. :(

Maybe I am doing it wrong.

I'm not sure if it works if you're wings are intact. My wings were broken when I got it to work. Remember, it's the back of Great Fox, not the front where the Arwings fly out at the beginning of the mission.

What kind of issues?

Was meaning to post this yesterday:

  • Controls......The button placements weren't great and one should have been able to customize them. Hope for that in the next 3DS installment. The circle pad has a nice feel when using it, but is rather unresponsive, especially in N64 Mode (Why is it even there anyways?).
  • Flicker: Not sure if you noticed, but there times, especially in the Venom Tunnels where the polygons start to flicker/degenerate, so you can see through the tunnels and stuff.
  • Programming and Physics: Some bosses were made under-sensitive, while others way too much. Area 6 Boss is an example of that. In the original game, it was much easier to dodge the arms. On the 3DS, I frequently lose wings even though it hits the nose of the Arwing, and while I'm attempting to dodge it.
  • A.I.s: This was also an issue in the original game. The AIs of your wingmates are worse in some areas than others, particularly All-Range mode in the original game. They tweaked the AIs, so they're no longer as problematic in those spots, but where they weren't annoying before, they are now.

SF 64 no contest

That exactly.

The flicker though I think is the worst to know since it wasn't there in the original from all the times I've played. On the 3DS, I recently played through, and after killing Andross, James was guiding me out of the tunnels. I crashed into the floor, then the wall on my right flickered and I noclipped (went through) the wall and into a loose void. I then noclipped into the void, and died, but when I did, I spun around and it played out like a death in space, but I was noclipping in the venom tunnels.

The original N64 version is the best but the 3DS port is by no means a bad conversion. Sure, the voice acting isn't as good, but everything else including the updated graphics and new features make up for it and the gameplay is still the same as the original. Plus it's SF64 on the go, which is awesome. I'd definitely recommend picking it up if you own a 3DS.

Hey Bartek! I recently played through Sector Z (And got hit by missles since I suck at shooting 'em) and I did try it, and yes you can fly through the back of Great Fox. You have to be aiming right for the small entrance at the back and be centered to it. You should then watch the Arwing fly in, then fly out the front. You will repair any wing damage and be fully healed.

Ok thanks, I'll try once I am in the mood lol. Btw, I have got Starfox on SNES. I don't know if you have that game, but the screen looks small on my TV. Any ideas?

Really? What size TV do you have? My cousin was playing his NES on our I believe 40" TV and we were able to make it work. Try changing various display settings on your TV anything from aspect-ratio to expanding the screen size.

I don't know the size, I think it's 40 inch too. It's only that game that has that weird format, my other 2 SNES games have a normal format. Maybe it's because I bought that game from the UK and not from Belgium? But that's rediculous. I bought so many games from all kinds of countries. This is the first time something like this has overcomed me.

Shouldn't be a problem. Again, try resizing your TV and stuff.

You know, I really do feel that this thread has served its purpose, and is starting to feel more like a journal-type topic.

Bartek, I would suggest to you, to make a thread in the sub-forum "The Journal Zone" where you can keep a topic with posts similar to this (Certainly the later ones). Or, you can request to have this thread moved and change the thread title.

But what's a journal type topic?
