Arwinglanding: What's up?

Does anyone here notice how quiet AL has been? I've seen that their forums have a little bit of activity going on here and there, but it certainly can't compete with Starfox-online.

Additionally, SF-O is the primary Starfox site now, whereas before the Starfox fandom on the Internet used to be more discrete. (i.e. Classic Starfox, which I think eventually just got joined with SF-O, and there was one other that had been on the Internet for a while, but disappeared. [My brain can't quite remember what name it had.] )

Also, who's the founder of AL, anyway? Is DZ a part of it? AL appears to be the only other Starfox site out there that's still it's own thing, and it may be alive, but I wouldn't say it's still kicking...

Thoughts?

Yeah, its been very quiet ! Well the guy in charge of AL is a guy named StealthFox, and he hasn't been around ever since he put the site under construction and gave up on it. All the mods haven't been seen around in weeks ! However, it looks like someone is still paying the webhost's bill though.

But AL still hosts content not avaible on SFO though, like the comics scans. It would be a shame to see that vanish !

Yeah, AL did have a nice gallery. Pretty much everything in it though is already in SF-O's gallery, minus the comics. I was a little disappointed when I found out that the "Farewell, Beloved Falco" comic on here was the Japanese version and not English.

Yeah, aL has been quiet. It's still got its regular members who visit it often, even if they don't post. (Like me, for instance. :P)

Dras is still active there but she hasn't posted in a while.

Stealth is MIA although he dropped in not too long ago.

I wish it could return to its active days again, but I don't think that will happen really. A new Star Fox game might boost activity for a bit but unless Stealth/someone does some work on the actual site, cleans up the forums, and there is some reason for SF fans to go there again then I think it's sadly going to eventually die.

ClassicaStarfox was a crazy, but ultimately failed, idea I had for an SF-O sister site. It was always part of the SF-O Network, even though it was a separate site.

Anyway, there has just been a drop in total activity for the SF fanbase. Even here at SF-O, we've had a significant activity drop. It was perhaps a year, maybe year-and-a-half, ago that we had a growth spurt, but it didn't really last.

What keeps us going is two-fold: 1. We do things as a community, IE play TF2, etc. 2. We have a policy of welcoming new members and giving people chances.

Also, the fact that I stick around and participate in the community helps, as I am able to fix problems relatively quickly. If I ever leave or become inactive in the fandom, I will pass the torch to someone else.

I am always looking for new ideas for community interactivity, so PM me or post on the SFO Stuff board if you have any.

The reason the comics I have up are what they are is I don't take content from other sites. One of these days, I will get my hands on the original Nintendo Power issues and do my own scans.

I also have to get the pages finished one of these days (and finish scanning the SF64 player's guide). Remember, there is the community content board if you have anything you wish to contribute to the site side of SF-O. Writeups, comic scans (that you did yourself), and other things are always welcome.

I've been making some small changes under the hood on the gallery system. It will soon be made available to artists who wish to post fanart.

I have a grand vision for SF-O, and one day I hope to meet it, but there is a long way to go yet. The SF-O network was supposed to eventually have multiple sites: A Nintendo site, the original SF-O, maybe a site for one or two other franchises, and an online gaming community. But, the focus would be on community. But the feasibility of that is not looking good at the moment. Too much work, and not enough interest.
