Mann Up Team Comp Theory-crafting

Team composition idea for the advanced co-op, Mann Up, missions.

And to just throw one out to get the topic started:

1 Kritz Medic

1 Buff Banner Soldier

1 Demoman

1 Engineer

1 Heavy

1 Spy

Kritz Medic to help classes get DPS out. A carpet of pre-round crit-stickies is always nice. In Mann Up, it's kinda assumed that you're good enough to not need an Uber to stay alive, DPS is more important when you have a Tank with giant bots with medics. Kritzing a soldier for instant Buff rage. With Medic, buy resistances to stay alive along with uber charge rate and duration.

Banner soldier because minicrits are essential for DPS, especially on an Engie's sentry.

Demoman does a lot of damage period.

Engineer also gives a lot of DPS and generally is good at keeping large waves of weak Scouts from rushing through

Heavy for DPS again, possibly slow if Natasha.

Spy with max sapper can make late-game uber medics a non-issue and make the giant bots substantially easier to deal with. It slows giant bots and Sentry Busters and outright stops regular bots for free backstabs. One time I sapped a whole wave of 8 heavies and backstabbed them all. That's 2,400 damage in the span of about 3 seconds. Also spy covers the Scout's duty for money collection. A disguised spy can mingle within the waves and collect cash without being shot at.

I see a disturbing lack of Pyro.

I find the scout can be an effective choice as well. Mad Milk can slow targets by 35% and the Fan O'war can mark targets for mini-crits. Even a moderately upgraded scattergun in a competent scouts hands with penetration can be just devastating, and lets not forget instant respawn, money collection, and other versatile uses.

Natascha Hoovy. Between the penetration and the improved fire rate, slows down Scoot waves and Sentry busters to a crawl. And with crits, it still kills everything dead in an orderly fashion, except tanks.

You should add that, if there's a scout on the team, the others shouldn't collect money themselves, unless you're dead that is. Because of the huge overheal a scout can get from picking up money. I saw someone get to over 700 health gathering money ! Which make the scout more than twice as though as a heavy!

This is from a post on spuf. Referring to Disk Deletion, regarded as one of hardest (if not THE hardest) Mann Up missions currently available.

"Try having a jarate sniper and a full support scout (maxed mad milk + mini crit sandmann).

The slowdown effects stack, they turn a giant scout into a giant snail.

The team that I "used" to beat the mission really easily:

Minigun + Sandvich + Gru Heavy (Sandvich for the medic)

Brass Beast Hoovy

Engi

Medic

jarate Sniper

Support Scout"

In this gamemode, support classes really can make or break a team.

Seems that the BB Heavy would be the main powerhouse, with the Sandvich Heavy playing a more supportive role.

Engy supports team with sentry cover fire, as well as with teleports and dispenser health/ammo regen

Medic supports with healing and presumably Kritz (since everyone can have their own personal ubers, and the skill level of Mann Up essentially requires you to be able to survive without an uber anyway)

Sniper supports with Sleeper and Jarate, liberally applying piss to keep Heavies' and sentry's DPS high

Scout supports with Milk and Sandman stuns while collecting money to help everyone upgrade

You can see a trend here. No one man is the focus of the team. EVERYONE supports EVERYONE. In Mann Up, you HAVE to be unified, coordinated. You have to work as a team.

Firebug's post has some good points, but I also beat Disk Deletion with a random Mann Up team. So I will also provide a little insight on how we did it too... later. :P

Here's a pretty cool vid where some guy share his tips for mvm, be sure to listen to the whole thing. There's some really good advices in there :

It might be useful to add these things in your strategy

*Watches even though has seen a pleasant amount of times*

Also; Though I'm not too great at the game, I'm going to play a bit more of MvM till where I can to make a sort of team comp guide or class general guide.

Class priority list because I am bored.

1. Buff Banner Soldier

2. Demoman

3. Engineer

4. Heavy

5. Scout

6. Medic

7. Pyro

8. Spy

9. Sniper

If people start asking why. I'll get into the grit of my reasoning when I'm not tired.
