The Shaper
It's because your computer sucks. And the site has a few updates currently happening, not to mention some of the forum software may be causing some issues. At least I think.
Redeemer
SFO gets like that when it has a lot of traffic even for people with super awesome custom computars like yourself we're sorry for any inconvenience.
DZComposer
There is a server issue this morning. I've submitted a ticket for it.
Hidi
Ehh the website was down last night so I'm not surprised about the lag.
DZComposer
The sysadmins appear to have the major issue nailed down. I've also made some tweaks to hopefully make the day-to-day operation of the site a little smoother. It will also help when I can find the silver bullet against these baiduspiders without blocking all APNIC-allocated subnets (Blocking APNIC means bye-bye all Asian and Australian users).

Gestalt
My god. That black out lasted at least 5 hours. It was tolerable yesterday but the site was completely unresponsive tonight. Whatever it is I hope we can start handling 50-100 members with ease. Friday was the most active I’ve seen in a while with 10+ in the chat. Looks like new members are staying longer and the greats like Mr. K and Shaper are giving it another shot. i love how you say a 6 core i7 computer with crossfired graphics and 32 gigs of ram is bad now lets here the specs of your computer and see if yours is the one that truly sucks Dude 32gigs is overkill doncha think I feel sorry for your wallet. Secondly, it's not just about how much RAM you have, it's about the quality. What's the quality on that 32 GB? Is it high end DDR3? Thirdly, your computer quality would have no bearing on whether or not you could connect to this website as the problems stem from the server that SF-O is hosted on (which we can't even control). So in the end your complaining about the site's speed and ability to connect is all for naught as there is nothing we can really do. If you really knew anything about computers you would already know this though.

I figure its a good thing somebody brought it up, if there's an issue happening server side then it should be brought up to try and resolve it...either that or its purely informative so others know they aren't the only ones with the issue. !Corgi
yes 32 gigs is a bit of a over kill but as ive spent alot of times at home and hospital and run servers on this and my other box that only has 16 gig Let me tell you why you are bad. *Sigh* Servers work differently than home computers. COMPLETELY different in terms of what hardware is more needed than others. With a server, You have this one comptuer with X amount of hard drives storing the data and posts ect... then you have (Prefferably) a second computer with the Webpages, SSL and other things, The actual website design. Then, You have a 3rd computer that is linked the first (Data Server) as a backup that automatically copys the entire websites data every 2-3 hours as a backup. The main computer (Data computer)'s main priority is to be hooked up the internet and when someone knocks on its internet door asking "Hi, I am 127.0.0.1 and I would like to read this page: www.starfox-online.net/topic/10707/" and the computers job is to take that address, look through its data and relay the information on that page back to you in a output string in such a way that your computer combined with the website design computer also simeltanieusly talking the website design computer to arange it into the website the way DZ intended it to be. With this all happening, Your computers only job is to ask questions and recieve instructions on how to build the webpage from the Ikea Instructions that DZ's Swedish Servers tell it to. Now, With atleast 50 active users on the website, These swedish bastards are answering a lot of questions (Queries). This is where ram comes in... RAM is "Random Accesable Memory" also known as temporary memory (Which clears with each reboot / refresh). RAM is what allows a computer to multi task, Answering all these peoples questions. Major servers for big websites like Google will often have upwards of 100 PETABYTES of RAM (100, 000, 000 GB) to answer all those damn questions. This is why Sweden is so fucking smart. Look at all those google queries and damn can those swedish servers answer that shit quick. the processors job is like the manager of the operations, they take in all the shit and direct it to where it needs to go. The more cores, the more managers on duty directing the more swedish meatballs being cooked. In terms of a small website, we dont really need that big of an order of meatballs, like fuck, We're not swedish. What seems to be happening to this website is that the DataServer (The main one) is having issues looking up within itself the instructions on what is on each page. They must have spilled their damn swedish meatballs all over the file cabinets again... This is why the webpage loads (Somewhat) but there is no actual post data to display. This is out fo DZ's hands because he pays for some big company to host his website on a dedicated computer somewhere in some giant building with probably hundreds of thousands of other website computers. When something goes wrong with it, He cant simply look at the actual computer (Other than the RCON Panel, Accessing it from his own computer). This seems to be a hardware issue. The company has to send a Repair Technician into the basement to look at the physical computer and fix it while keeping DZ's files intact. You apear to know NOTHING about computers and simply jizz in your pants at what ever hardware has the biggest numbers and not taking into account the actual performance of said parts with the drivers/coding that has been created for them. I see you as the kind of person putting a AMD Quad core (or what ever your poor ass can afford), With 8GB of ram and some Graphics card on Windows 95 and then wondering why your computer keeps shitting on its self and crashes. /post

I know I was wondering for a while if I was the only person experience timeouts and latency >_> It's been mentioned in a few posts that I've seen in the past couple of days, although not explicitly by DZ in a new topic. In any case I thought it was common knowledge that the website was having issues and DZ was looking into them. I have no problems with someone creating a new topic on the matter, I do take exception to the way the OP handled it though by...comparing overall home computer performance when the problems have nothing to do with that? :/
DZComposer
There was a server issue. I have been told it is fixed. The server is over 1000 miles from where I live, so if I can't remote into it, as was the case during this downtime, I can't do anything but put in a support ticket with the host. Redeemer
Okay, this topic has served its purpose. Zyra, if you want to discuss your computer specs with anyone please send them a PM and do it. I'ma lock this before people get all flustered.
DZComposer
Just to correct the record, there are two servers: One for the web pages and content, and one for the database.
