Steam Greenlight

Now that it's go, thought I'd make a topic where people can put up games they'd like to see get more support, in the hopes that they get released on Steam.

Too tired to start this off via text, so have a screencap.

There have been loads of fakes so watch out. I doubt Minecraft has really been submitted, but I dunno.

Anyway, Greenlight is great. I've been waiting impatiently for it to launch since it was announced in July to see how it did. It seems to be going well! And that is great news for me, since I've been working on a game for quite a while now, planning to get it on Steam. Greenlight is an excellent service for small-time indie devs, as well as bigger companies looking to expand their game's market/platform, etc.

I just hope they can get the bugs worked out, ban those asshats who put up fakes (they are giving them week bans atm so beware. Although I say perma-ban their ass. It's not funny.), and let people find games a little easier… and this service is going to be amazing.

Really? Well.......crap. That sucks. :(

It's not so much people faking it as they're using it as a request feature, not understanding that Steam can not put the game up if the developers aren't the ones to submit it.

Maybe a few are because of that... but mostly it's just annoying kids who want to troll, and Greenlight is a very serious/honest Steam service and it doesn't need that.

Call of Cthulhu: The Wasted Land and La-Mulana are already games that are on there as well.

Not some shovelware hunting game, but a really well made, in depth one.

Also, Steam implemented a fee of $100 on games being uploaded to Greenlight so it's put a serious quality control in there. It's now legitimate game developers putting their games on Greenlight.

Yeah, I've played theHunter. It's a great game but I hate the Pay-to-win type of plan it has. You can't do a thing without shelling out some money. I'd rather just spend $60 and get all the content with no micro transactions... ;_;

But anyway, the $100 fee is a good idea. It's going to get rid of 99% of the fakes/trolls. No one wants to spend a hundred bucks to get a fake game up for 5 minutes.

Nicest thing about the fee is that Valve isn't keeping it. They're donating every dollar collected (that isn't tax) from it to Child's Play.

It's low enough that even the poorest serious developer can afford it, but high enough to not be worth trolling.

If anyone actually pays the $100 to troll, they should be VAC Banned, IMO. But I don't know if Valve would do that.

Nah, if someone's willing to donate $100 to charity to troll, they've earned it. It's like the $99 rings in TF2 with things like:

"Seal Team Six accepted Osama Bin Laden's "Nice Shot"" and "Adolph Hitler accepted Anne Frank's "No hard feelings.""

If they've got a disposable income and are willing to pay the fee just for it, then kudos.

Except the TF2 rings don't dilute anything.

Trolling Greenlight dilutes it and makes it less attractive to developers. Steam needs more good indie games, but asshats who flood greenlight with crap stands in the way of that.

First 10 games coming to Steam via Greenlight.

Black Mesa

Cry of Fear

Dream

Heroes & Generals

Kenshi

McPixel

No More Room in Hell

Project Zomboid

Routine

Towns

Really glad to see McPixel in there. It wasn't getting as much attention as I had hoped.

Also glad to see that none of these games had a 100% bar so I guess Valve is just picking up the ones with a lot of attention/votes. That's good. I thought the threshold was going to be quite high if you had to make it to 100%. For a lot of these cool games that just don't get enough attention, that would've been bad news for them.

(Such as this awesome game that hasn't gotten much attention at all: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=92962680&searchtext=Miner)

Forget Me Not Annie

It's a first-person puzzle horror game about a young girl and her creepy teddy bear. It's also written by a good friend of mine, so I'm totally not biased (he's a really great writer).

Is the bear's name Tibbers, by any chance?

I did, I'm just messing. But I mean come on, girl named Annie that can summon a bear at will. It's too impossible to pass up.

I had to reverse-GIS that to even know what you were talking about. I've also just outed myself as someone who does not play LoL at all.
