CrypticQuery
Evidently, if you purchase Windows 8 Pro, you will be allowed to 'downgrade' to Windows 7, or even as far back as Vista if you are that sadistic. This is possibly the only thing I actually like about 8; 7 is by far superior for desktop browsing. Hidi
I would agree with you, but I'm going to try and avoid Windows 8 altogether and get a laptop within this current month. I think it's funny you can downgrade to Vista though. We all know it wasn't very good :P
sroberson
I am just kind of hoping that the ability to downgrade the desktop browsing back to 7 or Vista doesn't bloat up the operating system...I was watching reviews of Win8 and many boasted that it was a lightweight OS that could be put on laptops that had nearly finished serving their purpose. Maybe it's just a hard drive consumption issue.
psy_commando
I guess they're trying to lure people that don't have 7 yet and are not sure if Windows 8 is worth it. That's probably not gonna help Windows 8 much though.. Windows 8 will most likely be Microsoft's biggest mistake in recent years. I hear a lot of people talking about switching to Mac or Linux, over the retarded 2 "desktop" running in parallel thing, and the tablet interface, and all the other stupid quirks that Windows 8 has. Once Microsoft stops Windows 7 support, and if there's not a good Windows OS coming after 8, I'm going Linux Mint all the way !

At least somebody agrees with me of all the things I don't like about 8!
sroberson
Sadly, for the gamer on a computer platform, it seems its either PC or Mac. Do my knowledge emulation on linux (GNU linux that is) prevents a lot of games from being played. I am sort of hoping Windows 8 hits a certain node and gains popularity. The growth of Apple seriously bothers me for a company who only holds the minority share in every market it touches.
Rin
My laptop is a Vista. I'm going to stick to the lesser of the two evils. Even if I can get 7 out of it, there's no garuntee it doesn't come with catches, and I honestly don't need to be buying another OS for the time being. Vista sucks, yes, but at least it's doing as I ask without too much trouble.

You'd be surprised, emulation is much better than what I thought, I know that the source engine runs perfectly on wine. I didn't have much success with the source dedicated server though.. jesseboyd7
I have Windows 7 on my laptop. Not looking forward to upgrade. Windows 8 is based more on the tablet platform and it looks so much familar to the Xbox360 console.
Peter
I don't care what it is as long as I can access the Internet and type papers. But seriously... Windows XP all the f*****g way.

Well you'll be able to. But, supposedly that people that tried the release candidate were having a much harder time figuring how to do thing on their pc. And I said that before installing 7, and now I don't believe it anymore !
sroberson
^ I did the exact same thing when I had to install Windows 8 for the QA team at work. I was clicking around it wondering how I get anything system-wise done on it. I am hoping they ironed out some of the problems with it, which certainly includes the lack of comprehensive computer management tools that are easily accessible on the desktop. DZComposer
I lost interest in Windows 8 when I discovered that there is no close button visible on most Metro apps, and Alt+F4 did nothing. I had to task manager kill them until it bothered me enough to Google and find out about the special hidden mouse hover spot to bring up the close button. But by then I was all "Fuck This Shit" and returned to my Win7 box.
Hidi
I don't care what it is as long as I can access the Internet and type papers. But seriously... Windows XP all the f*****g way. Ah, still like it eh? Yeah, it's certainly my favourite Windows system. My old netbook still runs it, though I'm replacing it soon for that reason (And the fact that it's old and it sucks, like can't run Photoshop sucks). XP did have a good run, being a great system, but it really is time it was properly succeeded, which 7 was supposed to do. Now Windows 8 is coming out and hasn't really given 7 the time it needs to get out there. I'm trying to avoid Windows 8 well, because of it's rigid Apple-system feel. People used Windows XP over Mac for a reason! I mean sure, Linux is nice and can be modified to suit oneself, but the majority of the programs I, and many other people use don't work on Linux. ....... Some kids at my school brought their laptops in after installing the consumer preview, so I got to sample it that way. I really hated the interface and lack of a feel for control that I have especially on XP. They later saw the problems I had with it which was the Metro Start Menu (Which is nothing but a disorganized mess) and the lack of proper app windows (What's with that?). They then realized (After me telling them) that it installed on their computers like a typical OS, so to this day, they have Windows 8 and likely will be stuck with the incomplete version of Windows unless they choose to download an ISO or use a legitimate format.
