LoneWolf
I found this highly interesting. I've never really thought of fandoms in this way. Being part of the StarFox, Homestuck, and Furry fandoms, I can definitely see some of what they say. The StarFox fandom especially has a tendency towards fanfiction, since the story in the games is fairly weak and often inconsistent. Furry fandom is driven by it's artwork. Homestuck is consumed by the depth of the story. Very interesting to me. GO GO DISCUSSION.
PsyMuffin
Well, this is exactly how I take almost everything I like. I usually take it to the next level, as in I imagine in my head different conclusions or prequels to the stories that have been told. For instance the past few weeks I've just been thinking about different outcomes to the end of The Dark Knight Rises. When I make a story up in my head, it feels real. Though don't judge me, I also sometimes act out these "Imaginations". Of course the reason being is I want to feel like I'm in the shoes of the character i'm making a story for. :P
ballisticwaffles
Fandoms can change more than society. They can change the very series they are off. For Example, Ponies!!!!, Derpy Whooves and Doctor Whooves And in a much more masculine example, a power rangers fan became a head writer and considered an unnofficial ending to the Turbo Ending when he wrote the season he was involved with.
