DZComposer
Why didn't I think of this? Though I think it will only work with the Huntsman, Gunslinger, or Ubersaw. Other killtaunts take too long.
RomulanNinja
A "good" phlog pyro would clearly see the trap, and evade. But this sure does have something to it.
Gene Inari
Backstabs work too. But yeah, imagine doing that in front of an ubersaw medic. "So long and thanks for the Uber!"
Thu'um
There was that time rob and i encountered xid attempting to unleash his phlog and so i back stabed him as he taunted, but ya, phlog is weak anyway
Vy'drach
A good (and somewhat lucky) Huntsman Snoipah can use this tactic to counter an uber as well.
Icy
I've got to try this. It's so obvious I don't know why it's never occurred to me, or why I've never heard of it from anyone else. Also, I'm sure the Hadouken would work fine too. It's about the same as the Ãœbersaw.
Firebug
Did a bit of science with some friends a while back. Phlog damage resistance, at the time of our testing, allowed the Pyro to survive all available kill taunts, as well as telefragging. This was before the damage reduction was nerfed from 90% to 75%, though. However, in the video the kill taunt completes and strikes the Pyro just as the MMMPH taunt and damage reduction end, rendering the resistance a moot point. Huntsman, Gunslinger and Ubersaw taunts all work because of the stun effect. Other taunts may work too, but they would have to be perfectly timed. Longer taunts like the Sandman outlast the MMMPH taunt and would never work, unless if used preemptively from around a corner, and even that's a stretch. So yeah, dealing with a Phloggy. Backstab, time a taunt, or run and gun. I haven't touched the Phlog since they nerfed it (it didn't need a nerf anyway. The glowing, screaming taunt was a warning, not an opening; too many people misunderstand that concept and they whined until Valve gave in ), so my experience and advice may be a bit outdated. Then again, this topic DOES involve the Pyro class, so...
psy_commando
lol, I love to do that ! When it actually works ! I never tried against a phlog pyro, mostly because they can't do anything while I shoot them at a distance, but also because I never had the chance. Not many phlog pyros around these days on the servers I use. I was able to do it 3 time up to now against ubered enemies. I just started doing that 2 weeks ago, when I stumbled on a vid showing the huntsman taunt stunning ubered people. All 3 were on Badwater, the first one was against some dumb pyro. The second was against a dumb heavy(he was ubered and had his boxing gloves out), I stabbed him like 3 times, effectively wasting all his ubercharge, before the medic got over the surprise and took out his bonesaw and forced me to retreat. The third was against a soldier. I was going to post that along with other tf2 stuff in their own thread, or on my journal, but I might as well post those here while we're at it, and also for the lolz. I got only 2 replays, because when I saved the one with the heavy, the damn valve server said, nope download failed ... Its really too bad, hearing the others guys commenting on what was going on and laughing their asses off was priceless ! https://www.youtube....h?v=KKEK6TALLVg (for the impatient skip to 1:00 ) https://www.youtube....h?v=6ZtLA1S-vhE I've got to try this. It's so obvious I don't know why it's never occurred to me, or why I've never heard of it from anyone else. Also, I'm sure the Hadouken would work fine too. It's about the same as the Ãœbersaw. You should go on valve server to practice ! You'll have much more opportunities to try it ! And try to do that on a map with tight space, lots of doorways and lots of hiding places. Also, target the guy being ubered, not the medic ! Or else you won't do much before you get killed by the medic's angry buddy. And the tactic I see in most taunt kill video is basically, bait someone, and ambush him in a corner, or as he crosses a doorway. But if you want to save a replay, be sure to test downloading a replay before, because some valve server have their replays not working and some have it working. You can also just record a demo, but for me it creates a lot of lag for some reasons..
Xidphel
Yeah. I try to activate my crits when I'm close enough to my preys and when there's no one that can do huge damage around. Other times is when I'm low on health.
