manthony_Higgs
You just perfectly summed up the entirety of Krystal's character in Adventures and Assault.

Hope(N Forever)
I think a lot of people noticed this already anyway. It's not surprising considering tiny mouths are artistically considered feminine, which is probably another factor that contributes to Krystal's supposed sex appeal. The tiny mouth in her official design is also the reason why a lot of people don't like CharleyFox's 3D Krystal model, despite it being ironically the most popular and most used in 3D Krystal fanart renders! I think that's because at the time there wasn't really any viable alternative, unlike now where the latest Krystal 3d model is considerably better. Needless to say I've grown to kind of despise the Krystal model, mainly because so many people who otherwise can't draw to save their life use it excessively and 95% of the finished product (model, background, etc) turns out to be pretty horrible. There's a reason why FA banned 3D "art" and what not from their AUP policy.
Fana McCloud
There's a reason why FA banned 3D "art" and what not from their AUP policy. Correction: they banned shitty 3D art using stock models that the "artist" didn't create, because most times the shitty 3D art comes from people who couldn't make a model to save their lives. Not all 3D art is banned.

Not all 3D art is banned. I stand corrected, although now that I think about it I might have heard something to the effect of only 3d art related to models, I'm not sure. I don't frequent FA nearly as much as I used to but I know that a lot of the AUP is a clusterfuck of rules that often aren't clarified and that may or may not be enforced. In any case, I prefer a smaller mouth. :)
Hidi
It seems they're trying to get a more "pettie" effect look. I'm not a big fan of Krystal's artwork anyways.

Or perhaps her small mouth is just because she's female, also her face isn't quite as wide as Fox's. Men tend to have squarer jaws, and in this case it would mean a wider mouth. Also @ AJC: Not sure if you're taking a crack at the size of Fox's wang.
sroberson
And to think, it took me 8 hours after I first saw this post to realize the opportunity for so many naughty jokes... Srsly though, why so much hate? I feel like its a pretty common tactic for animated characters to be given this small mouth characteristic to make them more effeminate. It's not something new, I mean check out Disney's version of Robin Hood if you want an immediate comparison to Star Fox. I think it goes beyond just a perverse fantasy to a caricature of real biological traits of genders.

It's not something new, I mean check out Disney's version of Robin Hood if you want an immediate comparison to Star Fox. I think it goes beyond just a perverse fantasy to a caricature of real biological traits of genders. I was just about to say that, but you got faster than me. Nothing about a perverse fetish, a short mouth/jaw is a common technique used by artists to effeminate an anthropomorphic character, the same way women are usually drawn/rendered with smaller chins than men. Sometimes it can really get to the extreme, in that female anthros can basically become human females with animal "accessories" with ears and tail, for example Blacksad by Guarnido. So yes, Krystal's mouth is short. Personally, I find it too short. Or maybe it's her nose's length. It makes you wonder "Is she a cat or a fox?!" A little longer nose would have been great. And Sroberson, Robin Hood is a really great example of how it could work. Here's a picture with Robin and Marian next to each other (look at the top right). sroberson
But notice that there is still a noticeable difference between Marian and Robin's mouths (hers being smaller obviously). Its a little more subtle but its still there overall throughout the movie. I actually didn't realize just how old this movie was until I looked it up - 1973. As such, I will remain skeptical that they purposefully make female characters have smaller mouths solely based on some sexual appeal using this movie as part of my evidence. Its just a style used to give gender identification. Now, whether Nintendo (or...Rareware I guess...maybe) had this sexual fantasy in mind when they created Krystal is up for debate since obviously she didn't have much other purpose in the final product. Man...now I want to walk down memory lane and go watch that movie. Anyone happen to know if the copy that was released most recently is the same as the original? Or did they add stupid crap to it like Lucas did to the original Star Wars trilogy when they got re-released?
Robert Monroe
I think the hate is aimed at that shitty fucking godawful fan render. Which it deserves every bit of.
sroberson
*looks at link* Ah yes, that render. It's not the best for sure but I have a hard time passing harsh judgement as I know I can't do any better. I thought we were balking about the artistic style used overall and its application to Star Fox.
Drasiana
At least Maid Marian looks like a fox despite having a "feminine mouth" or whatever. Krystal and Fox don't even initially appear to be the same species when you look at their faces. I was staring at the render in the OP to compare them and that Krystal there really creeps me out. Her eyes aren't pointing in the same direction and the size of her muzzle makes her face look extremely unbalanced aside the wonky eye. And the place she's standing doesn't appear to make sense alongside her positioning with Fox. And she's doing a boobs and butt pose. And...and..this render, what the christ

Fana McCloud
And she's doing a boobs and butt pose. And...and..this render, what the christ Just be glad it's a boobs and butt pose that's actually physically possible. Eschergirls is just chock full of ones where you can see both the boobs AND the butt both in 3/4 view, if not close to full on, it is most disturbing. x_x
