It's Not Super Smash Bros., But Star Fox is Kinda In It Anyway

The following thread is about a suggested official cameo rather than an explicit one.

So, we know Star Fox characters, being a popular Nintendo series of sorts, may occasionally have their characters popup in other Nintendo games. Although, the game I'm about to mention is neither Nintendo's nor have actual appearances of actual Star Fox characters. However, being that this third-party game (or a special edition of it, at least) is exclusive on a Nintendo console, it can still be possible anyway.

What game am I referring to exactly? Well, none other than one of Wii U's early fighting game releases Tekken Tag Tournament 2: Wii U Edition. What makes this game different on the Wii U than the other platform releases? Well, other than the enhanced controls that take advantage of the Wii U GamePad, Namco were kind enough to include exclusive features that are definitely not possible on other platforms: Dedications to Nintendo's own IPs, such as the apparently fun Super Mario based "Mushroom Battle" mode, and exclusive Tekken costumes fashioned after various Nintendo characters - they include some of the weapons these characters use too. One costume is based directly on Fox McCloud, notably donned by Tekken fighter Steve Fox (how amazingly appropriate, although, any male character can don the Fox McCloud costume). The following trailers will illustrate these exclusive features better:

By the way, wasn't it Namco whom were behind the development of Star Fox: Assault and the next Super Smash Bros. game for Wii U/Nintendo 3DS?

This made me laugh. Interesting designs they had there!

LOL

I was watching with bemused interest at the idea of using powerups in Tekken to try and give it a new feel to it...but then I flat out burst out laughing when I saw Zelda show up around 1:05. So manly. Looks like she could have eaten Link and Ganon in one go!

Does Nintendo own the Tekken franchise? I don't understand how they could blend the two without that kind of ownership in place. It's interesting they decided to include Fox McCloud though...I guess it means Nintendo still considers them as mainstays and important enough to make appearances in other games.

That awkward moment when my roommate who has never played Tekken starts balking about how this sounds exactly like Super Smash Bros. and how lame it is. Wut?

Nintendo does not in any way own the Tekken franchise, its always been in Namco's hands.

I didn't figure that was the case, but I guess it could simply be Namco paying to use Nintendo's franchises in their games?
