sroberson
Giving a somewhat amused and surprised smile, Freyr addresses Axel, "Well if there are some folks out there that are feeling safe with you protecting their hides, then I look forward to seeing you in action - you must have a few tricks up your sleeves. I used to travel around a lot too, no shame in saying you haven't been somewhere...pretty big galaxy out there. I think its a bigger shame to realize that most people never get out their back doorstep, especially in Corneria. I always got the feeling that they thought it was too 'dirty, dangerous, and poor for them,' like they were above exploring the confederacy that they inevitably pay for with their taxes." Getting a bit wide eyed over what he was overhearing in the surrounding conversation, the jackal snapped his head to peer at the scientist, Amelia. "Whoa...whoa...wait what? Did I understand correctly that the planet is breaking apart? Like, craters coming up from nowhere as bits of the planet comes apart? Won't there be massive seismic and volcanic activity? I know that was a serious concern when I was briefly in the city infrastructure division back on Corneria whenever we were drilling our foundation beams into the crust. How the heck are we even going to survive the surface if it's as bad as what I am imagining?" Freyr begins to fidget a bit, showing an expression with a slight level of concern and worry. He was flashing back to a almost catestrophic situation one of the construction crews was in when they drilled to far into the crust of the planet and started causing fractures in the plates and nearly created a deadly water vapor/methane geyser. Eeep...
Naza Sutera
Amelia turned to the jackal and said, "You heard correctly. Sauria is breaking apart by the chunks. What you're imagining would make more sense, to be honest; it'd at least be crumbling correctly, even if why still remained a mystery. And here's the thing..." She paused for a moment to scratch the back of her head and, and almost obsessively, grabbed a piece of her hair to check for split ends. And on the same hand that held the lock of hair, she noticed that her manicure was chipped on the index finger. Realizing that it was a bit rude to stop the conversation just to play with her hair and look a her nails, she tossed her hair back behind her shoulder and continued with what she was talking about. "Sorry 'bout that. Now, where was I..? --Oh! Um, and when I say 'by the chunks', I mean that CONTINENT-sized sections are beginning to float into space. But here's the kicker: all of the chunks are still livable. They're still maintaining breathable atmospheres, they're maintaining temperate climates, and there isn't even any noticeable distortion of gravity. It's basically shooting the bird to all known laws of physics"
Gene Inari
"That is your caveat, 'all known'." Gene spoke up, straightening his posture in his seat somewhat, "To put it in a way you would understand; there are forces in the universe that do not follow those known to your current 'laws' of science." Gene set his gaze on Amelia. "You call them esoterics, pseudoscience, label them occult. You separate them, cast them aside, and dismiss them because they are too different, because you are unable to 'know' them like the fundamental force gravity. Sauria is a hotspot, a leyline, for these forces. Powerful enough to defy the laws you think we abide by." "These forces are out of balance, literally tearing the planet to pieces, yet at the same time, are the forces keeping those pieces whole." Gene then paused with a hum. Just telling her will not work. I need a demonstration, an analogy she would comprehend, maybe not accept but... "Allow me to shift the scales down, something on a more personal scale, how these imbalances can affect you, and not just a planet." "Just like how a planet has leylines, points where streams of energy cross and collect, shown as points of either geological or historical significance. Your body too has leylines, more commonly understood as pressure points. These pressure points are just that, points in a complex network within the body. I use the term chakra to define the energy that flows in this network. Just like how the cardiovascular system of your heart and veins carries blood, this chakra network distributes the body's chakra, or energy. Furthermore, the chakra network is so closely interwoven with the body's vital organs that they are virtually one in the same. Therefore, when the network is attacked, these organs suffer damage as well." "I have intimate knowledge of these points and can see them and manipulate these points, among other things. Hitting one directly can affect chakra flow, either halting it or increasing it based on how the attacker strikes the chakra point. I can make a simple, relatively painless demonstration of this if you lend me your arm." (Exposition ahoy! I could of went on, but that would railroad you, Naza, a bit, which I want to avoid.) Naza Sutera
Being a scientist, Amelia resides within the paradigm of the Scientific Method. Every effect has a definite and cause, and the hows and whys must be based on empirical and measurable data that is conditional upon certain physical laws of reasoning. And as a scientist, it is practically the mainstay of her job description to see paranormal phenomena as highly theoretical, and without practical application to the physical world. Her job is to systematically observe, make measurements and comparisons, perform experiments, and come to conclusions based on the concrete data presented to her. She honestly thought this guy was a bit crazy... ...But the more she thought about it, the more she was intrigued by what she was being told. Truth be told, to Amelia, being a scientist is not about limitations. It's about discovery. In her profession, one has to think outside the box when the traditional answers don't cut it, and the traditional answers currently aren't. She did say that the planet's behavior is doing what is supposedly impossibly by defying everything she knows about planetary physics. To acquire knowledge, one must realize that s/he does not have the answer and consider all possibilities, and at this point anything is possible. Who knows? Maybe this guy isn't as crazy as he sounds. "Okay," Amelia said, extending her arm towards him. "Go for it."
Renardfrost
He looked up at Gene's explanation. "Right on all points.. in that essence, the Chakras behave much like Psenergy, but a lot more stable and with fewer weakpoints to exploit." He held up a single finger, creating a small blue "flame" that wavered and faded when he held it in front of Gene. " How odd.." he mused. " your Psynergy doesn't have a color... Why is that?" He asked the enigmatic fox, his tail swaying idly as he looked genuinely puzzled and went back to his book, realizing he had spoken a lot more than was needed, not to mention the fact that if he had no color, he couldn't figure out how to converse correctly with him. Gene Inari
Gene stood to take Amelia's arm. "First, I am going to block your chakra points on your upper arm here." Gene pulled her arm out so it was extended out in front of her. Holding Amelia's arm up with one hand, and extending two of his fingers out with his free hand, Gene precisely and quickly jabbed Amelia's arms in three spots just below her shoulder. "Three major points are now closed on your arm. Your arm now feels numb, right? Try to flex your hand." Gene was now holding Amelia's arm out for her, if he let go it would fall to her side. While Gene let the fact that he basically 'turned off' Amelia's arm sink in, he turned to answer Renard. "And my aura does not have a color because I am concealing it. True, most like you and I cannot change our reflective Life aura, but I am not like most others." Turning back to Amelia, still holding her limp arm, "Now allow me to reverse the blockage of your points and force an opening." Gene then repeated the jabs and this time Amelia reacted a bit more visibly. Forcing open these 'chakra points' as Gene puts it, akin to kicking down a closed door by flooding the other side. Closing cuts off stimulation and feedback, feeling like numbness. Forcing an increase is overstimulation. In such a mild example, like an asleep limb waking up or hitting your funny bone in your arm, only all over. "That feeling will fade away on its own, and no harm has been done to you or your arm. Thank you for allowing me to demonstrate on you, Ms...?" Gene hanged on a name, he was not paying attention when it was last mentioned.
Renardfrost
They couldn't tell, because his face was buried into his book, but he was stunned. Someone who can conceal not only their aura, but their psenergy? the barrier that keeps souls separate? He could change it and resonate it, sure, but not conceal it? Now 'that' is impressive... he sighed idly. he'd have to study this further, and that meant to actually prove he was worth something to the mission. manthony_Higgs
Manthony had been listening in on Gene's explanation. It was interesting, but nothing new to him; Manthony had worked with severel psychics over the years. He never really got to talk with one though, and a burning question rose in his mind. Against his better judgement, he spoke up. "Hey, psychic guy? What, ah... what color do I glow?"
Naza Sutera
"Alright," Amelia said, allowing him to take her arm after explaining what he was going to do. Just as quickly as he poked her arm just past her shoulder in three spots, the feeling in her arm completely disappeared. Confused, she knitted her eyebrows together and tried moving her arm before he even asked. ...Double-yoo, tee, eff? She started shaking her shoulder, hitting and pinching her arm and fingers, and even tried poking herself in the shoulder like Gene did--anything to return the sense of touch and ability to move her arm. "...What sorcery IS this??" she said, sounding more humored than angry or scared, though he probably didn't hear her since at that moment, he was saying something to that guy who was hiding behind his book. Then Gene explained to her something about how he was going to reverse the blockage, and jabbed her arm the same way he did before. Not only did this action return the sense of touch and ability to move her arm, it also flushed her body with a tactile sensation that she felt through her body. She shuddered, shook, started massaging her arms and cheeks and smoothing her hands down her thighs as she felt something like little ants crawling through her veins. "Thank you for allowing me to demonstrate on you, Ms...?" "--Amelia..." she answered, somewhat curtly as she tried to shake herself free of the tingly feeling she felt all over. "...The hell'd you do to me??"
Gene Inari
"Gene Inari." The odd-eyed fox quickly introduced himself, dropping his name with a single nod. "I merely changed parts of your aura, Amelia." Gene answered laconically, "I am an Empath. My specialty is working with the energies that come from all living things. These energies are called auras. There are nine of them; Corporal, Life, Power, Health, Emotion, Mind, Black, White, and Red. I merely changed part of your Corporal aura as an example. The Corporal Aura is what most of us consider the physical body. I consider the physical form just a manifestation of the power we all have within us and coming from us." "I can do many more things other than making extremities lose sense, but that is for a later time. I have been taught that frivolous use of one's talents is rather unseemly and rude. Perhaps when we are not aboard a crowded military transport, you can inquire me further as your curiosity demands." Gene bowed his head to Amelia slightly. While it was true, Gene did not like to show off, he felt satisfied. Opening minds to new thing was always a gratifying experience.
Renardfrost
"Hey, psychic guy? What, ah... what color do I glow?" He looked up from his book, holding up a single finger. a small blue flame glowed at the tip of his finger. he then held it out to Manthony. it wavered to a pale green flame, then to a brilliant gold and held it. To Gene, it woulds appear that he was breaking off pieces of his aura and condensing them to form this brilliant gold hue from his faint blue glow, which soon turned to match the "flame" he was forming, though soon returned to normal color after he waved it away. " Gold... Very radiant. You appear introverted now.. but to those who know you well enough, you're actually a virtual fireball of energy, keeping moods aloft and spirits high. one who prefers the Sun's vibrant glow to drifting about space's dark sea..." He sighed and picked up his book again, and spoke no more.
russiandog38
Ryan watched the foxes demonstration from a safe distance. He didnt understand magic, never really needed to. He considered it a dark art, something evil and not to be messed with. But who was he to say anything about it? If magic could tear a planet apart then perhaps it could put it back together. manthony_Higgs
"Gold, huh? Awesome." Manthony didn't pay attention to that sappy poetic description. But gold was a pretty cool color to be. With the psychic going back to his book, he figured the conversation was over and sat back. Man... Didn't expect so many... colorful characters on this job. This might be a little fun. Oh, like that one op on Titania... Manthony, losing himself in his memories again, slouched in his chair a bit.
Thu'um
Axle watched from a far. He had heard about sorcery before, but he didn't care to mess with it remembering his late mothers lesson,"Magic is for God, those who use it must do it responsibly, and must claim responsibility for using it in judgment" He turned away and looked into space. What did he care anyway. Foxes with magic, inwardly he was mad at it, it seemed unnatural.
Renardfrost
He flattened his ears as he picked up a snippet of thought, then another. dark... unnatural... Feh... didn't know there were some religious Zealots here. Figured.... They glow with the light grey of false purity. He wanted to ignore them, to just tune them out and let them cling to what he commonly labeled as ancient idiocy, but the words flew out before he could stop them, much less choose them more carefully.. "It's not magic... and I didn't ask for it. Don't project animosity to the unexplainable, especially to those who have no choice but to control it." With a grumble he flipped the last page, set the book down, and picked up another, a murder mystery. He was very smart, but he didn't have very good common sense, as his words clearly showed. Naza Sutera
Amelia crossed her arms and tilted her head slightly, eyeing him curiously as he explained how he's an "empath" and how he can manipulate an array of energies that radiate from living things. Which is what he did to temporarily take away her ability to move and feel her arm. As she listened to him explain all of this, her eyes narrowed and trailed away as she got lost in thought... His definition and interpretation of what he calls "Auras" sound to her like the electromagnetic field caused by the brain's generation and circulation of electricity, and the separate auras being representations of the brain's electrochemistry during physical and mental states, such as joy, sadness, pleasure, and pain. And as far as what he did to her arm, could that have been a neurological phenomena? He did say that he basically manipulated her physical energy. If one thinks about it, the electricity flowing through one's nerves is "physical energy", and what he did simply block the connections? And not only that what did he mean when he described some of the auras as black, white, and red? And what was that one guy talking about when the lizard asked him what color his aura was? That reminded of some combination between how hammerhead sharks can sense the electrical energy of their prey in the sand on the ocean floor and Synaesthesia, which is a neurological condition where two or more senses overlap, as in to "hear colors" or "see sounds"... Suddenly, the one guy, who had been spending most of his time hiding behind a book suddenly blurted something out as if snapping at someone. "It's not magic... And I didn't ask for it. Don't project animosity to the unexplainable, especially to those who have no choice but to control it." Perplexed, Amelia eyed him for a moment, then looked around at the others for any clue as to his sudden outburst. ...Did I miss something?

Renardfrost
He caught an inflection in the silent man's psynergy and emitted a guttural growl deep in his throat. He stared through the book, calming once hs internal voice came to his aid. Chill, Ren. Getting mad at that useless little bible-thumper isn't going to get you anywhere at all. besides.. you always know how these people end up stuck in a hopeless situation with no means of defending themselves, crying out to their nonexistent god to save them as a blade sinks through their flesh, just like that priest who tried to kill you when you were too young to know what all those pretty lights on your fingers meant. He doesn't know anything, let him stay ignorant and die that way. Remember what you're taught: "God Does not exist on the battlefield." He simmered down. this wasn't going to get anything done. Zealots or not, Sauria was crying out, both physically and energetically. and if he had to work with some pathetic god junkie, then that's what he had to do to help. Fedora
Eurydice may not not of had a psychic connection to....stuff. But even she felt the increased hostility in the shuttle. Renardfrost
He took a deep breath. She was right. and he got a little hot under the collar, this was also true. He just didn't take insults well. " Right you are..." sure you got a problem with religion, but not only because it baffles you... if that were the case you're just as horrible as them. And just because one guy tried to kill you because he hated you only for being confused by you doesn't mean they're all like that... It's messed up, but not worth crying over.. just try to either shut up until you're planetside or apologize once you get the nerve to speak.... Pssh... like that'll happen. not worth my time, much less my effort. I'll help him... maybe fight him later when this is all over so i can at least show him what I mean... He focused on his book, trying to solve it before he reached the end. His eyes tired from reading, he continued a few more pages before snapping the book shut and setting it aside, the teen reclining back in his chair. I still don't trust him. nope, not any farther than I can throw a stained glass window. Hehe... that's funny. Savage and sacrilegious, yes... But funny. "Well.." he said at long last, trying to cut through the small pocket of silence before it bored him too much. "Let's play my favorite question game, " Why are you here?" Robert Monroe
~-*-*-*-~ UPDATE ~-*-*-*-~ The voice of the pilot crackled over the low-budget voice-comm of the shuttle once more. "I request that everyone now remain seated and buckled up, as we are now preparing to dock at Monroe Science Station. Thank you for your cooperation." There were no fore viewports for the passengers to look out of, but within moments they could see out the port and starboard windows a massive titan of space vessel. Almost romantically designed, with gothic spires and a circular hull, one could have mistakened it for a movie set based on ancient novels of space and adventure. It brimmed with glowing lights and signs, the various docking bays packed with various small sized warships bearing the proud Cornerian coat of arms. Indeed, it was a sight to behold, likely unlike anything anyone on the shuttle has seen before up close. Soon, the brilliant spectacle was engulfed by darkness as the shuttle completely enclosed itself within a docking bay. It was a short lived moment, however, as with a dull, hollow hiss one could hear the sounds of the bay doors closing behind them. With another low rumble that echoed inside the shuttle's hull, the docking bay depressurized, making it safe for disembarking. "We are now docked in bay 11.22.02. You are now free to disembark, thank you for your patience, and welcome to the Monroe Science Station", the pilot spoke over the comms, followed by the sound of the hatches disengaging and sliding open. "Jami Al'Salma Monroe will greet you in a few moments to escort you to central command." ~-*-*-*-~ Current Music: http://youtu.be/F4e63Qy8GDg Current Setting: Cornerian Shuttle/M.S.S. docking bay 11.22.02 Posts Allowed: 2 per player Days until the next update: 1-2 Objective: You should probably get out of the shuttle. manthony_Higgs
Manthony was taken aback by the station. A little grandoise, but very impressive. And those ships! A perfect blend of civillian and military aesthetics. Manthony knew he was going to feel right at home in this place. The lizard stood up straight, and cracked his knuckles. Then his wrists. Then elbows, shoulders, neck, back, and with a little effort, even his tail! "Alright ladies, make sure your tampons are tucked in tight! We're heading out." With those words, he left the transport. Thu'um
Axle had never seen a such a massive structure in space before, Even the infamous orbital gate paled in comparison. Being next in line to exit the shuttle he touched a foot out of the craft and onto the dock to as if to test it. His heel clicked and with that he stepped into titanic space station. He shuttered slightly, he had always felt small, but the sheer size of the man made structure left him in awe. He stopped and rotated looking over his shoulder, his mouth open in almost fear. He had never been in space station of such grand dimensions, how stable could it be? He shook with his next step, something stirred in his stomach, he felt slightly sick. "Time I need time to adjust,". He turned around to see the reactions of the other crew members. He frowned, they were in no doubt in better condition them himself despite being in shock them selves. He straightened up, and sucked in a deep breath. Had to look good for the Captain.
