Looking for new mouse & keyboard

So I plan on getting a new set of peripherals for my PC because my current stuff is junk. Plan on splurging since Christmas is coming up and I was wondering if SF-O could offer some good advice and help me on the research end.

I've been doing some minor research and been looking into keyboard stuff mostly. I'm looking for something that is middle-ground between gaming and typing. I don't need a bunch of extra buttons and macros I'll never use. Something that just feels good around the WASD cluster. Also a smaller keyboard because I have small hands and I don't want to be stretching and straining my fingers when reaching for keys while gaming. Probably going to err on a keyboard/brand that's more on the durable end.

As for mouse? Well since it's going to be a gaming mouse, laser is the obvious route. As for features? I'm not quite so sure on. Beyond maybe adjustable DPI settings and maybe one or two macro buttons, I'm not sure what I want. I like my mouses being a bit weighty, so wireless is an option on account of the weight of the battery.

Also, price isn't too much of an option. These are going to be my Christmas gifts after all. :U

Edit: Also not sure if Arcade or Lounge thread. It relates to gaming somewhat but I 'unno.

I'm PC savvy, but even I just use a run-of-the-mill keyboard and mouse for gaming. If you're "hardcore", then you could with Cyborg keyboards and mice and what not. However, my suggestions her is just to look at getting a new standard keyboard and perhaps a Logitech gaming mouse. Nothing fancy but I personally feel it doesn't matter much. I'll getcha some more details after poking around a bit more.

Razer's mouse software sucks goat nuts. Stay away. I've had problems with every Razer mouse I've ever owned. Cyborg is overpriced. They're selling a $300 keyboard with rubber dome keys. FAIL. If you spend more than 20 bucks on a keyboard with rubber dome keys, you got ripped-off.

For the keyboard, get something with Cherry MX Blue keyswitches. I personally use a Razer Black Widow Ultimate due to it being backlit. I just don't use Razer's shitty software with it. Alternatively, there is the Das Keyboard. http://www.daskeyboard.com/model-s-professional/ (Beware: The Das Ultimate has no labels on the keycaps, so if you can't touchtype, stick with the pro). The Das is the better board, with better n-key rollover (especially when ised with PS/2), but it is not backlit like the Razer. The Das can also be ordered with Cherry MX Browns. The browns don't feel as nice as the blues, but they are quieter.

You can also pick up a unicomp if you don't care about looks. These are the same design as the old IBM Model M keyboard, which was the best keyboard ever made. http://pckeyboard.com/ The unicomp uses buckling springs instead of cherries. At $80, the Unicomp is cheaper than most Cherry boards. But, it looks like a relic from the 1990s.

Mechanical keyboards electrically connect BEFORE the key bottoms out, which can make you type faster and makes the keys more responsive.

Trust me, once you use a mechanical keyboard, you will never want to type on a rubber dome board again.

I use a Logitech gaming mouse. No issues with it. To me feel is not as important on a mouse as it is on a keyboard. http://www.logitech.com/en-us/gaming/mice-keyboard-combos/gaming-mouse-g500

I'm really liking that Das keyboard... o3o

Might also look around Logitech's lineup a bit more. Very tempting to go wireless because I prefer my mouse with a bit of weight and such. My previous stuff was a wireless mouse/keyboard combo that worked nicely before giving from just the years of use.

You will appreciate the feel of a mechanical board more than you will the lack of cables with wireless. Plus, batteries are a PITA.

I agree, my Logitech mouse has held so well over time, plus the life of batteries is rather long.

Keyboard wise I really like Razer keyboards, preferably the Blackwidow, I love loud keyboards,

gives my gaming power. :3

I personally use a Razer Naga Molten edition, and a G15.

I'm cheap so I roll with the Logitech LX8 and a Microsoft Wave keyboard, I like both of them, but their wireless interferes if their receivers are too close. I would suggest another keyboard, but if you can still find an old LX8, I'd heavily suggest it for how cheap yet decent they are. (I've tried the newer Logitech M510 and the DPI just seemed too off for me to use)
