Robert Monroe
~-*-*-*-~ The story so far... The Cornerian government, working alongside Captain Robert Monroe of the M.S.S., has assembled a team of specialists to work together and find a solution to the Saurian Crisis. Having been briefed and evaluated, the party has boarded a landing shuttle for the planet's surface, and following a daring navigation through a debris field in Saurian orbit, touched down on the surface for the first time in Lylatian history. With the landing gone smoothly, Captain Monroe has ordered everyone to unboard the ship save for the pilot, who will stay behind to keepsafe the shuttle. The shuttle's landing zone seems to be a large, spacious green hollow, lush and full of wildlife. Various plants and trees thrive here, all of them alien and exotic to the eye. Animal life is more scarce, the shuttle's noisy landing having frightened off most of them for the time being. The area is quiet, tranquil even. There are signs of some architecture, notably a large building in the distance, and a huge stone wall that stretches around some sort of statue. Beyond there, it is mostly open field. First glances don't reveal much more than that. With nothing to lose and everything to gain, it is time for your mission to begin, M.S.S. team! Save Sauria! Save the Lylat system! ~-*-*-*-~ Current Music: http://youtu.be/I1wQKo04w2Q Current Setting: Thorntail Hollow on the planet Sauria! Posts Allowed: Unlimited Days Until Next Update: Everyone posts at least once. Objective: Disembark the shuttle and get your first look at Sauria! Other Notes: This is where the RP gets real, people! Episode 1 will still be easy on you, but this is where dice rolls and skill checks will start coming into play. Actions will have consequences! To review, you can do enviroment checks both manually and intuitively. This means characters with high perceptions will be getting freebie observation rolls, but at any time you want to inspect something, just make mention of it OOC with your post and I'll dice roll for you! manthony_Higgs
At the behest of the Captain, Manthony stepped outside, taking in the warm air. "Oh, man. I'm lovin' this place already! Nice and warm. I could spend a vacation here." Looking around, Manthony thinks he notices movement behind a waterfall. (Perception check)
russiandog38
Ryan stepped off the shuttle and onto the grass of the alien planet. As soon as his foot touched the ground, he considered his job begun. Immediatly he noticed the warm humid air and already began to feel hot. Having black fur and a black uniform was going to be brutal in this climate, but he would have to deal with it. He looked around their LZ, taking in his surroundings. His cybrnetic eye scanned for any movment in the open field. (perception check)
Renardfrost
Renard hesitantly stepped out of the shuttle and onto the warm soil beneath his boots. his outer demeanor didn't show it, but the fox was awestruck. it had been a very long time since he saw a sky that was so blue and not Choked by grey dust. Despite the planet's turmoiled state, the psynergy all around him felt warm and inviting, as if beckoning to explore this world, to hear what stories it had to tell.. As much as he would have liked to abandon his orders then and there and get to wandering, his orders to fix the planet came first. But still, he wanted some time to himself. Hanging out at the outer fringes of the group, (yet still within earshot for both parties to communicate, of course) He followed his first instinct and fell backwards into the soft grass near a small stream over which brightly colored butterflies and dragonflies darted and weaved aimlessly through the air, One hand on the soft earth, the other dipping its fingers in the cool, gently flowing water. He stared up at the azure skies before closing his eyes and breathing deeply, wanting to get used to his new surroundings, to sync himself up with the vibrant energies. He figured he'd have to do things like this multiple times if the terrain were as truly varied as Mr. Monroe had told them to believe. He looked idly around, at the simple stone wall and the valley in which they were now occupying, his hands feeling for any inconsistencies in the general aura of the place that would denote animal activity. Naza Sutera
Stepping off the shuttle, Amelia stopped for a moment, wrinkling her nose and scrunching her eyes shut as she felt a familiar itchy tickle in her nasal cavity. She brought the crook of her arm up to her face to prepare for a sneeze. I hope it's not allergy season or something... Sucking a big whiff of air into her lungs, she forcibly expelled the air onto her arm, blasting out a glob of snot in the process. "...Ehhyugh!" Amelia whined. Looking around to make sure no one was watching, she used her shirt to wipe the mucous off of her arm. In any case, she looked around, taking in the vibrant sights and sounds of the surrounding area. She thought it was gorgeous. Humbling, even. As much as she knew she was at home in some concrete jungle, she could step out of the box and appreciate a place of natural beauty. Taking a few wayward steps, she began taking stills of the flora, fauna. Climbing atop a rock, and careful not to stumble off and bust her ass in those admittedly stupid, though decidedly fly boots, she obtained a vantage point to take pictures of the scenery across the stream. (Perception check.) Scrolling through her camera to critique her shots, she got ready to climb off the rock and happened to look up to see Stargazer straying from the group. ...Wonder what he's doing? She though nosily. Then, she had an idea. She had to move quickly or she'd lose this opportunity. Stay right there... Stumbling off of the boulder, she took a knee just as he made his way towards the stream and adjusted the lenses of her camera for a vignette/soft focus effect. Hold on, hold on... Yes... She captured images of him standing near the water, and couple of him flopping down onto a bed of grass, and a few of him lying in the sun. Dude, the camera LOVES you. And it did, because she absolutely loved the shots she captured. Walking back to the group, she smiled as she browsed through her camera, proud of her handy work. She scanned the others, camera ready, looking for her next victim.
Milkyway64
The colonel stepped out into the tropic air, glancing around. "Alright, men. And ladies. Listen up! This is the real deal right here, we don't know what to expect or what's dangerous, that means you, Mr. Roll Around on Foreign Plants. We need to focus and work as one unit! Naturally, as the most experienced and intelligent, I'm going to serve as our guide, and my first idea is we try to communicate with these dinosaurs to find their leader! ...Who's qualified to do that, again?" Gene Inari
Gene rubbed his face awake. After the brief conversation with Renard, Gene actually fell asleep for the brief trip down to the planet. What woke him up wasn't the rough ride on entry, but the presence he felt through his sleep. However, the feeling passed by the time he was awake enough to do anything. Having just woken up from a brief catnap, Gene felt overly energized for some reason. Stepping out from the shuttle, Gene realized why he felt so uppity. The land was absolutely bathed in magical energy and life. It felt nothing like his home of Fichina or the fields of Corneria. Gene could feel the power of the land around and through him. It felt empowering. Defying his usual sense of tact and discretion, Gene had to test just how much his power was amplified by the hot-spot that their landing zone happened to be. Gene looked around and separated himself from the group just enough to prevent any unintentional damage from what he was about to do. Gene's abilities were a bit special; normally a psychic's power came from within a person and could be used and exerted as one's endurance allows, but Gene could work around that rule by using the ambient magical energy around him thanks to his Empath talent. In a barren place like Fichina or suppressed like the cities of Corneria, the effect was negligible and difficult to use. It took effort to gather the energy. But here, on Sauria, it was an obviously different case. Gene stood parallel to the river, facing out to the open field. Gene decided to start with a blast from his Power Aura under his own power at middle-high strength, equivalent to strong punch with effort behind it, but not quite all out. Gene let out a breath, focusing the energy within him to a point. Gene reared back his left arm, moving the concentration of his aura to his palm, and with a snap of his arm, unleashed it in a pressure wave of telekinetic force. The wave was like a strong breeze snapping across the field, the wind howled as it shifted and a few threes several yards away swayed from the breeze. It was something, but still subtle enough that only those looking his way beforehand would of noticed. Now was for the real test. Just how much power was there to tap from the land? Gene repeated the steps again, but this time using his ability to channel and affect auras, bending the aura from the life around him to augment his own. To any sensing-type psychic, the gathering of energy was noticeable. Normally Gene could feel when there was nothing left in the vicinity to add, but here, the sensation never came. It was like a bubbling spring, no matter how much it felt like Gene was taking, more was rising to the surface. Gene's face fell when something suddenly felt wrong. Gene attempted to close himself off, feeling he was nearing the threshold of what felt safe to handle, but the energy he was tapping into had other ideas. There was so much magic that it was hunting for an outlet, Gene just so happened to provide himself as said outlet. There was too much energy gathered for Gene to release slowly and allow to dissipate and it was looking more and more like the only way to cut off the magic flowing into him was to fire off what he had already gathered. Gene once again brought back his arm, and with a wince and a snap, Gene let go. The massive shockwave was like a roll of thunder sounding too close for comfort and Gene was sent flying backwards from his own practice attack gone awry, slamming back first into a bolder. Fedora
Eurydice stepped out onto the planet. The little hollow they were in didn't suggest at all that the planet was literally falling to pieces. It was quite scenic though. It was the kinda place where everything just seemed to take it slow. Where time moved backwards to a much simpler time. Maybe too much back though, Eurydice swore she could hear tribal drums and chanting somewhere in the background. Looking around, she saw that the team had already started to spread out. The Cold Sniper seemed to be looking around the area. That seemed like a good idea so Eurydice started to look as well.... until her gaze fell upon Renard and Amelia. She chuckled to herself a bit seeing Renard explore the area kind of like a child. When all here was said and done (and if they succeeded) maybe she'd visit this place again for vacation. Eurydice was about to go over to Amelia to tease her for ogling Renard when Florence tried calling them to attention. Eurydice sighed at herself for the missed opportunity but the joke wasn't going to be that funny anyway. She was about to convene with the rest when she saw one of the psychic foxes sneak off. People on this team seemed so free-range. At any rate, she listened to Florence until her ear twitched. She used ignore little things like that until her bounty hunting made her paranoid. Might've been that shift in the wind. (I assume the wind howling could be heard despite not looking directly at Gene at the time.) She decided to break from the group as well to go and get the red fox back together with the rest of them. She was just in time to hear the thunderclap which made her jump and see the red fox fly backwards into a boulder. She runs up to the Gene. "Woah! Hey! Are you alright?!" she talks to the red fox to make sure he's still conscious.
Renardfrost
He grumbled incoherently at the vague reprimand tosses his way as he continued to stare up at the sky. He could feel the general energy being drawn to a point, namely Gene's hand. Renard's ears perked up at the odd sound, and sat up to see Gene plaster himself to a boulder. He couldn't help but chuckle a little bit as the other red fox did his best, if unintentional impersonation of a moth on a hovercar's windshield. Karma had plans for that, however, as Renard created a psynergy flame to read the rest of the group. Instead of using his own energy, he decided to condense the plentiful psynergy around him for ease and convenience. Good thing: There was more psynergy in the given area then most places in the system, and it was also of a better purity. Bad thing: In condensing it, he may has well have set off a flashbang the size of a pea in front of his eyes, his mind barely had a chance to register anything before it was wiped clean by the stunning light. he sat there, blinking a lot, and waiting for his surroundings to return to normal.Okay.. note to self.... never do that again. Not until you're fully used to this anyway.. ti's still connected to the planet, and absurdly strong. He shook off the disorientation and stood, dusting himself off. Unbeknownst to him, ( as he was scanning the area's Pynergy for signs of other animals.) a butterfly from the stream had taken a likeing to him, intrigued by this bright orange creature and mistaking him for a flower. It landed on him, perching between his ears to sun itself and take a rest. (Perception check:)
Naza Sutera
Upon hearing Florence call everyone to attention, Amelia pursed her lips to make use of her facial muscles rather than make a scowl or roll her eyes or something. She can appreciate confidence and all, but the way he talked about himself was just so extra... In any case, she kept quiet and did as he said. There was a gust of wind the blew from behind her and a clap of thunder which made her instinctively look skyward. The odd thing was the noise came from behind her. Turning around, she witnessed Eurydice running to check on Gene, who was seemingly unconscious and plastered against the boulder she was on top of when she was taking stills of the area. "...The hell just happened?"
Robert Monroe
(Ok, let's get up to speed here guys. AJC and Immy, you need to post already! Sroberson is MIA, but he'll be auto-piloted until he returns. Anyway, here's your promised dice rolls.) Manthony peers to beyond the waterfall, and he notices what seems to be an enormous stone statue. You can't make out the whole thing, though, due to an abundance of trees and overhang, but it clearly doesn't look like a dinosaur... you think. All Ryan would catch moving are exceptionally large insects, and the swaying of grass due to the dinosaurs having fled the shuttle's noisy landing. Amelia catches a good view of the entire hollow before falling on her ass! Unfortunately, she doesn't catch anything -new-, just a good idea of where the hollow expands to: an expansive field, a glimpse of a river down to the west, far mountains to the north, and some sort of valley into the far east. Renard, you can definitely detect the ambient psyenergy here, but that is because this place is thriving with wildlife! The plants, animals, its almost overwhelming. Assuming you're narrowing your focus to just animal life, you can sense the presence of many dinosaurs nearby, mostly hiding away in caves, grottos and... behind a mountain? How strange. ImagenAshyun
Jami reassured the pilot her team's return as she awaited the ship to empty, at least for the most part. Having not witnessed the chaos outside, the wolf steps out, her hands on her cranial device's dials as she peers towards Gene and Eurydice. "What happened?!" she called out, a medical kit readied. russiandog38
When Ryan heard the clap he dove to the ground. This happened out of sheer habit and instinct. In his line of work a really loud noise ment either they didnt defuse the bomb in time or some lunatic was lobbing gernades. He stayed on the ground covering his head until he had relized his mistake. He got up quickly an looked over to where the noise came from and found Gene plastered to a rock. manthony_Higgs
Manthony squinted his eyes. Yeeeeeeeeuuuup. Statue. Big statue. ...Doesn't look like any dinosaur I've ever seen though. Maybe it is? Too much shit in the way... Manthony was about to head head back to that Florence fellow when he heard a loud bang. He spun around just in time to see the red fox smash into a boulder. The lizard readied his rifle and scanned around for hostiles, but only saw huge insects. A shiver went down his spine. Oh, great. Giant bugs. Fantastic. Gene Inari
Gene groaned, feeling like he just finished an argument with Keaton. His whole body ached and Gene winced when he tried to move. "Aughh.." What the hell happened to me? Gene tried to bring a hand to his throbbing head when he realized he couldn't move his left arm. Forcing it did not help, sending a wave a needling pain up his shoulder. It was a familiar feeling and it was enough to jog his brief lapse in memory. He blinked, slowly coming to after being dazed. Gene remembered that he tried testing the power within the area and it ended with catastrophic results. Regaining his senses, Gene realized he attracted far too much attention and was being surrounded by concerned comrades and was bombarded with questions. With is good arm, Gene waved everyone off, "I am well! I am alight! Back off!" Gene shouted a bit more forcefully than intended. Now with everyone a step back, but still staring, Gene at least had room to regain his composure and catalogue the damage from his little accident. With a grunt, Gene slowly picked himself off the grass. Pushing through the discomfort in his back and the pain in his left arm, Gene calmly brushed himself off. Other than the two aforementioned pains, Gene gathered that he was mostly unharmed.Gene saw Jami push past the few that were gathered and asked him what happened. Gene rubbed his arm, which shifted between numb and stabbing pains, "A casual experiment with some," Gene paused, grating over his own lack of forethought, "unforeseen consequences." Gene's brow furrowed, "The planet is beyond anything I have expected. You are a psychic." Gene directed at Jami, "I would strongly advise against interacting with Sauria's energies in any way. The magic here is overabundant and unstable, as I found first hand. Merely gathering focus is enough for something to occur."Gene noticed the medical supplies Jami had with her, but Gene declined the assistance, "Your concern is noted but unnecessary." The pain in his arm was merely the leftovers, it would go away soon on its own. Gene pushed his way past the circle of people that formed around him. Gene wanted to separate himself from the scene of his embarrassing blunder. Still, it was good to discover something of such unstable nature in relatively controlled circumstances. Renardfrost
Renard twitched an ear at the psynergy of the dinosaurs. The moutain containing small pockets of it was definately interesting, but he merely surmised that there's some form of passage that the locals know about. What really bothered him as that the faint glows he saw from the hiding spaces did not move. With strange beings arriving on thier planet unnanounced, thier apprehension was justified... But there was something off about it. Normally a curious one, a child perhaps, would have gone to investigate the visitors by now. The butterfly on his head flittered away as he entertained the thought that he spoke aloud to no one in particular. " It's like they're hiding from something they know is there, but i have a really odd feeling that thing isn't us. Of course, that is merely speculation. It's hard to glean intents with so much interference energy about." He thought a bit, his tail swishing as he stood up and looked aimlessly about

Robert Monroe
~-*-*-*-~ UPDATE ~-*-*-*-~ Robert stepped out of the shuttle lastly, having let everyone get their bearings upon landing. Noticing that already, the crew has gotten a little too excited, he clears his throat and summons you all to attention. "Welcome to Sauria, ladies and gentlemen. Now that you'd had a moment to get comfortable with the place, it is time to get cracking to business. As I mentioned earlier, there's a supposed Earthwalker clan leader in hiding around here... but we won't know for sure until we do a good clean sweep. So, I'm breaking you into two teams: one to cover the west, the other the east. Scout this area as best you can, then double back to the shuttle for a report. Is that clear?" With that said, the feline captain starts directing you all into two groups. They are as follows... Group 1: (East) -Robert (Leader) -Freyer (Autopilot) -Alex (Semi-Autopilot) -Ryan -Ren Group 2: (West) -Jami (Leader) -Gene -Amelia -Eurdyice -Florence -Manthony With the parties formed, Robert gives some closing statements. "As best you can, try to avoid disturbing the dinosaurs you may come across. They're timid and frightened, but may cause a riot if we perturb them. Jami can decipher Saurian and speak their language, if communication is needed, but for now, leave them be. Let them ease into our presence, and they will accept us in time." With that said, you move out! ~-*-*-*-~ Current Music: http://youtu.be/Ry2ezpehnjU Current Setting: Thorntail Hollow Posts Allowed: Unlimited Days Until Update: Four Objective: Search for the alleged Earthwalker clan leader! Other Notes: Ok, here's how the searching goes: You emote examining something, I tell you what you see! You're free to get creative with how the hollow looks, just don't get too crazy. Rock formations, bushes, trees, you know what it looks like in the game! Imagine that, only much bigger! Probably Hyrule Field sized, Ocarina of Time. Renardfrost
Renard mentally groaned as he saw the team he was part of: Maverick the Mouse Templar, A wiseass Jackal, and The Amazing Sinless Sniper. Well, at least Rob was there to make things a little more bearable.. but to be honest, one could only take so much eccentricity in one span. /Of course.../ he thought to himself. /Just my luck. Well if i just hang back, shut up, and do what i'm needed for, this can go smoothly and I'll be somewhere cool and napping in no time.../ Although.. something was bugging him about this area... manthony_Higgs
A slight smile grew on Manthony's face. This group isn't so bad. Two people who know how to fight- three, gotta count myself there- and two psykers. Between all of us, keeping that civvie girl alive shouldn't be an issue. Renardfrost
Renard looked to the Capitan, his tail flicking about softly as he heard his "name". " Um... Yes, Sir." he said, pointing in the psynergy's general direction. "I'm sensing large, aerobic life within this rock formation here, but that can't be right... at all. there are no points of entry, And even staying in such a place for an extended period of time would cause them to suffocate. but i don't see any of it dissapating." Gene Inari
With orders given and teams assigned, the two groups went their separate directions. While getting some distance from the others, Gene kept mostly to himself and appraised the current situation. Hmm... Even with two teams, there is still much ground to cover in this area alone. I suppose that is the reason I am on this team; out of the group, I have the best detection and scouting ability. Gene hummed, A leader in a time of crisis needs a safe haven, a bunker to go to. Somewhere safe, but still close to still lead his people. So Mr. Monroe's belief that the leader is still here is sound. But where to begin the search? Where could something be hidden in such an open place?Gene looked around to his teammates in the group as they all walked in a loose group. Gene looked to Jami, who was the captain of the group. From what I could gather, a psychic of considerable talent. However, I still have no clue as to what her abilities entail. However, considering I am on her team, as opposed to Renard, my sensing abilities are stronger than hers. Abilities aside, the group needs her for her expertise with the locals.Next were Eurdyice and Manthony. Our guard should anything try to attack us. Gene's thoughts then hit a sudden wall, which made him frown. A marksman and a mercenary... Beyond those general, broad words, Gene knew nothing beyond his first impressions back at the station.Last were Amelia and Florence. Brains and bravado. Gene put succinctly for himself. If anything was apparent, it was that Gene needed more time with his teammates to know anything meaningful about them beyond a dryly written dossier and a few hours company. Gene appreciated Amelia's open-mindedness and curiosity towards his talents, but that was it.Still walking through the open field, slowly covering distance so that the two teams didn't cross in their searches, Gene rubbed his left arm. It was still recovering from his small incident. A day's time it would take for the sensation to fully go away. While rather humiliating, Gene did not go away with just a sense of wounded pride and a thorough jostling, power like that could be useful. That one attempt was all he needed to not have such a misfire happen again. He was considered a special empath for a reason. But what to do with such a thing? Gene's use of various auras left him quite versatile, but rather aimless. While waiting on Jami to make the call to actually start searching, Gene stepped up next to Amelia who was snapping up more scenic pictures, "If you do not mind my interruption," Gene started politely, "you appear quite curious and open about subjects that you have no prior experience with. I assume you wish to inquire more about what I demonstrated while on the shuttle to the station?"
