UPDATE

~-*-*-*-~

(As Immy has been unable to keep up with the RP for the time being, I will be assuming control of Jami for now.)

Robert shakes his head at Manthony and Renard as they speak of alternative ways of forcing entry. "We shouldn't be hasty in resorting to use of force to accomplish out goals. Besides, none of us here are experienced demolitionists, as far as I know. Let's hold back on destroying anything for now."

Gene, your sensing gives you a mixed answer. Your empathy reads clue you into lifeforms; at this close range, you can definitely determine there are complex brain patterns coming from inside the inaccessible cave. You figure there's maybe four, five, maybe six individuals inside? One of them is fairly weak, though.

However, you are less successful at determining the nature of the runes or barrier. It doesn't seem like its an energy field to keep things in or out, rather it feels more like... a doorknob, or perhaps a keyhole. Runes aren't your forte, so you aren't sure, but its decidedly not defensive in nature.

Amelia, you scan the stone up and down, and you find... grooves! Yes, there seems to be some sort of inscription associated with the runes. However, you can't much tell what they are for, perhaps they're some sort of Saurian technology, but you are unfamiliar with such technology at the moment so it is lost on you. However, your visual impressions are they're some sort of electricity current conductors.

Ryan, your analysis of the wall lets you see that inside the stone, just below the surface level, is an intricate system of grooves and leylines, but you otherwise have no idea what they're for!

Robert turned his attention to Axle, and gives him a small nod with a grim frown. "Aye, we could be in a mess of trouble. We'll use the shuttle for a shelter if we must, though. I hope everyone has their personal defenses on them though, just in case!"

Jami has since regrouped with the party, and she kneels over to examine the runes. Tracing a finger over them, she focuses her mind and attempts to pick up their psy-energy for herself as she reads them over. "Just one moment while I translate these..."

Days Until  Next Update: Two to Four

Objective: Gain access to the cave using your combined knowledges!

Notes: If your character has the adequate skill and ability, they can learn about certain things on Sauria by studying them. EG in this case, Amelia can learn how to use Saurian technology if she catalogues and studies it, but you have to emote out doing this research for it to count! Other examples would be our psychics learning to use Sauria's own psychic energies, or a fighter using Saurian weapons. Just a tid bit for you guys to spice things up some.

Also this update is a week late because real life can bite me.

Also also, happy birthday to me!

Renard was musing to himself as he had his back to the group and gazing over the expanse of the hollow.

" Hmm... wonder if i form it more slowly.. if can use the ambient psynergy of this place to make weapons and such... -without- blinding me..."

and on the heels of that....

"My weapons would get a lot sharper...."

and on the heels of that...

"Wonder what kind of weapons Saurians even use..."

Renard hummed a tune while thinking of these possibilities, his tail wagging faintly as he watched a few fireflies bumble about in the distance, listening to the small river bubble and flow. "It's a real nice place. I hope we fix it soon." he said idly as he sat down, tugging at his neckerchief to straighten it.

Amelia zoomed in on the wall to examine it in greater detail. She could have opted to put down the camera and give the wall a more up-close and personal inspection, but she didn't want to impede on Jami as she deciphered the runes. Amelia did, however, notice that there were conduits integrated into the wall, as if to conduct electricity.

"Hey, uh...You guys think this thing might be electrically operated?"

Ryan traced one of the hidden lines with his nail and stopped at a groove. He didnt understand what they could possibly be for, but he assumed these lines were important if they wanted to get in.

"Captin, there appears to be a system of lines and grooves that run just below this rock wall."

He took a few steps back to get a veiw of the whole wall, looking for a main area where all the lines meet up in a center point.

UPDATE

~-*-*-*-~

Robert turned his head to Amelia. "Electrically operated? What makes you say that?", he asks as he looks over himself. Taking notice of the conduits, he strokes his jaw in pensive thought for a moment. He then turns his head to Ryan.

"System of grooves... conduits... yes, perhaps this could be some sort of... arcane door, no? If we could locate the primary conductor and give it the right charge... well, I won't say the way will open, because I can't be sure, but it seems like a definite start on our progress", he says as he folds his arms. "Of course, we have to find out where that conductor would be..."

Meanwhile, Jami speaks aloud as she deciphers the runes, "I've got it! This symbol here, it refers to going inside something, such as a passageway. More than likely, it refers to the entrance here... and this rune, it symbolizes heat or energy; a power source. And this last rune looks like some sort of web, a grid... quite possibly the system of conduits Amelia and Ryan have discovered. A solution is simple, we apply the appropriate energy source to the grid, and the way will show itself!", Jami says with a clap of her hands, grinning with delight.

Lastly, Ryan does indeed see a meeting point for the grid: at the top of the stone wall, cleverly integrated into an ornate looking engraving. Sadly, he lacks the artistic knowhow to really recognize what that engraving is supposed to look like.

Also to note: the sun has completely set now, and in the twinkling twilight, a variety of wildlife is starting to come out. The hollow rustles with life...

The sun had set and the group was trying to solve the door in the midst of darkness. Axle had begun to set up camp knowing they were unlikely to have opened the door before sunset, but the day had ended sooner then he had expected. He drooped the stakes for a tent and turned back towards the group, they were all still absorbed with the door. " This is dangerous. We should have prepared a camp and been ready for night. The first night is always the most dangerous."  He stood and moved out of his crouched position and headed over to Captain Rob. " Sir, we need to stop what we're doing here and get through the night. Solve the door in the morn after we've all had a proper nights rest and the there enough light to see. "

The lizard took a step towards Axle and the captain, nervously gripping his rifle. "I think I gotta agree with short stuff here, capn. We don't rightly know what's out here, and whatever is is probably better equipped for night ops than us. We have that fancy shuttle of yours, why don't we hold up in there till dawn?"

*Ryan continued to stare at the wall, trying to figure our what the meeting point of the lines ment. He activated the nightvision for his cybernetic eye, turning everything in his right eye green. He didnt mind the dark, infact he was quite use to doing missions at night, but the thought of all the nocturnal creatures that would come out on this planet sent a shiver down his spine. He turned around and waited for the captins orders.*

Manthony squinted at the wall conduit.

A little too dark to tell... but I thiiiiink...  I can shoot it.  And if I can't, well, naptime on the shuttle isn't too bad either.

The lizard hefted up his rifle, fiddling with the saftey.  A quiet whine came from the gun.

"Pardon me folks, testing out a hypothesis of mine.  Y'all might wanna cover your eyes for a sec'."

With the warning out of the way, he squeezed the trigger.  The area around them flashed a brilliant crimson for a split second as a bolt of energy flew at the device. A soft "tsew" whispered from the Gungir.

"IF I shoot that thing, THEN the wall will open BECAUSE I've seen these things before and that's how they generally work.  ...That's how science works, right?"

Eurydice had been slinging (OOC: or whatever you call it when yo do that spinning thing with your guns and fingers) her Amazons while the brain trust was analyzing the big door. It was a nervous habit. She was watching the sniper since he'd probably know best when something would come out screaming Oogedy Boogedy Boo and try to kill them. On the other hand, best also look out on her as well. The more pairs of eyes the better. Best also get Manthony to also keep watch.

She turns around to get him only to see him level his gun and fire at the door. "No." was the only word she said only for her to panic a little. She went up to him and to her credit, she didn't yell. "What. Do you think! You're doing!?" she said exasperatedly.

UPDATE

~-*-*-*-~

There was a silence following Manthony's brash choice to energize the conduit engraving with 1.21 gigawatts of pure supercharged sniper fire, likely due to the sonic boom that comes from such a powerful weapon when it delivers the force of a lightning bolt with such pinpoint accuracy! The nearby dinosaurs howl in fear, birds scatter from their trees in a panic, and the air is supercharged with static electricity.

Robert turns to Manthony, his expression dumbfounded. "... Manthony! A little warning next time would be appreciated!", he says sternly, but not entirely... angrily.

Jami's fur stands on end from the charged air. She shakes it off, ruffling herself with a sigh. "I was going to suggest one of our psychics use a psionic blast... but, look!", she says sourly before pointing to the conduit. It glows red, with yellow lines illuminating outward into a grid. Then, it slowly changes to green, and crackles to life! The ground begins to rumble and shake, and an outline of some sort of stone door shows itself from the glowing leylines. With a grinding, crushing slide, the heavy stone wall breaks open on an arcane rail, sliding left and right from the center. Some seconds later, the way is open!

"Well, I'll be damned", Robert drawls out. "Good job, Manthony", he adds on with a smirking grin. "Alright people, let's get inside! Flashlights on, it's gonna be dark-"

The captain's orders are cut short by the sound of approaching footsteps. Heavy-footed running approaches the party, and within moments, several figures emerge from the darkness! Standing some eight to ten feet tall, hugely muscular, and covered in thin metal armor with heavy looking axes and clubs stand six Saurian Sharpclaws! They bare their teeth and growl menacingly at the party, bellowing in Saurian.

"Nxuk kxo xocc?! Adlutohj! Bacc kxom! Kxoo mijk ro xoho veh kxo Giood!"

Jami draws her handgun! "I shouldn't have to tell you what he just said! Get ready to fight!!"

Objectives: Defeat the Sharpclaws!

Other Notes: This is our first combat round, so let's get the skinny on how it works: You're only allowed on post, which you should probably use to dictate your attack! Remember, using a talent you're not skilled in is less likely to succeed! There's no defined HP for either you or the baddies, so don't worry about that stuff. Just RP as usual, and the next update post will give the results.

Speaking of updates, I'm dropping time limits for them at the time being. Reason for this is I keep failing to meet deadlines, and you guys are really good at not spamming up the thread like I feared. So RP to your heart's content, and I'll update as I feel they're needed. Hopefully this more free-form system will let us progress faster...

In other news, Milky is banned from SFO for the time being, so I'll be NPCing Florence for him. He'll be giving me the appropriate reactions and emotes to me through Skype, so don't worry.

"Shit!!" Amelia shrieked from behind the camera before the view whipped to the side and towards the ground.

The camera shook  as it recorded her legs and feet running and her fingers as they unintentionally covered the lens. There was some clattering as the camera fell to the ground. It landed at an oblique angle where the shot was being recorded sideways, with Amelia kneeling down at the edge of the shot. It was difficult to tell exactly what she is doing, just until the 'click' of a gun's magazine could be heard. Locked and loaded, she stood up, and waited to use the weapon if necessary.

When the door opened, Ryans eye immediatly targeted and outlined six figures coming towards him. He dove out of the way just as the Sharpclaw came threw, tucking and rolling on the grass then coming to a knee. He unslung his rifle from his shoulder and took a quick look down the scope, sqeezing the trigger before pulling back the bolt.

Renard produced a glowing light in his hand, crushing it tighter and tighter until, in a brilliant flash of blue light, a sword made of blue light, shaped like a military officer's saber shimmered in his hand, illuminating the surrounding area for the others.  " Showtime..." he said simply as he ran towards the nearest source of Red psynergy and swung the psionic blade, a streak of blue light following the sword's path.

The lizard jumped back, swinging his rifle behind him.  He draws both his pistols, spinning them a bit before aiming forward.

"Oh baby, oh baby! Things are gettin' GOOD!"

Manthony focuses his revolver on the closest target while jumping between targets with his blaster.

"Come get some!"

Eurydice drew her Amazons. "Moving in!" she announced to her team. She advances while firing her pistols before singling a pair of Sharpclaw out for hand-to-hand combat. She flips her pistols upside-down as she approaches them. "Alright boys, this will hurt" The Heracles hums to life as she assumes a Counter Trigger stance.

Gene scrambled back from where he was working over to Amelia, "You alright?" Gene steadied himself next to Amelia, staying back behind the other charging to the group's defense, ready to help anyone who might be injured in the conflict.

Axle was furthest away from the door, and the passage was to narrow for him to risk running in with his sabre, or firing his weapon. Regardless he pulled out his blade and stood by to cover any of the group if they fell. He was also taking the opertunity to note the antantomy of the creatures, their actions, and their atire for hints about the oppostion that might be met on the panet.

UPDATE

~-*-*-*-~

Ryan aims to take his shot! However, while the Sharpclaws are not the brightest bulbs of the bunch, they do recognize a weapon when they see it, and one of them shoves the panther aside before he could get the shot off, causing a miss! (Failed Roll)

Renard is on the job, though! No sooner than has Ryan been assaulted, Ren comes up and stabs the assaulting dinosaur with his psy-blade, wounding the soldier, but not killing him just yet. At least you got his attention! (Successful Roll)

Manthony is quick on the draw, and his aim is just as good! With both guns blazing at seperate targets, he drops two Sharpclaws in a rapid barrage from his guns. Way to good! (Critical Success!)

Eurydice's storm of blaster fire does little to hurt the enemy, but it does let her close the distance for her hand-to-hand combat. She scores a successful hit on a sharpclaw, but the creature is much tougher than he looks, and snarls at the husky dog, taking a stance against her! (Successful Roll)

Gene's aura powers don't heal any wounds (as none have been taken yet), but his psy-energy invigorates everyone and seems to make them more perceptive and agile against their brutish opponents. (Improved defense for a turn)

Axle notices quite a few things from his observations: 1: The Sharpclaws are fast to move, but slow to react. They could easily outrun you, but would be hard pressed to outMOVE you. 2: Their weapons are extremely simple, just wooden clubs with iron spikes. 3: Their armor seems to be sheeted metal. It is thin, so probably not hard to pierce, but would withstand any sort of martial art hit very well. You probably shouldn't try to kick them. 4: Despite their flimsy armor, they're overall very solid, extremely well built creatures. Knocking them over would be difficult, and their skin is certainly thick enough to take a few hits from a weapon.

Robert draws his revolver, and with near-perfect sleight of hand, lands a shot in a Sharpclaw's body, downing him instantly. Jami draws her own weapon, and with a few well placed shots assists Renard in taking down another sharpclaw. Teamwork!

That's three down, three to go. The sharpclaw battling Eurydice stammers from her attack, but makes a hefty swing in return with his club. Fortunately, the massive weapon is easily avoided by the skilled martial artist. Another takes a swing at Renard, and delivers a painful blow from behind! The final sharpclaw runs for Amelia and Gene, raising his club overhead!

The Lizard revels in his victory for but a moment, quickly turning to see a Sharpclaw sprinting after the scientist and the red Psyker. Holstering his weapons, he swings his rifle up front, switching it to ballistics and firing at the Dinosaur.

"Hey, Fatty!  Get over here!"

(Awesome, looks like Ryans already off to a good start)

Ryan quickly got off the ground and slung his weapon over his shoulder. The shove had caught him off gaurd, but he recovered and was ready for more. He decided using the rifle at this close of range was a stupid idea, so he pulled his combat knife from his boot and took a stance. He noticed how slow the Sharpclaws where at swinging their clubs and hoped he could avoid them (Agility check). Wanting to try his luck again, he stepped forward.

Covering the flank had proved important as the sharpclaw poured from the entrance; however, Axle noticed a danger. As the scientist and Pysker were covered by manthony, all three had been cut off from the group. He rushed to the aid of the lizard, " I've got your back! Make sure they don't get injured, and I'll hold these "vermin" off. That Armour won't block a stab from my sabre, but i can't afford to get hit either. He eyed the large clubs, the spikes giving him a slight shudder as he envisioned the damage they could cause. Getting over whelmed was a danger too, the faster they got to a better position the better. He stood, his back to manthony with a sabre in one hand and a blaster in another.
