All I have to say on this matter is:

Ok, so I lied, it's not the only thing I have to say on the matter. Demon's Souls came around in a special point in my life where I was hating how easy everything in big name games was. Then Demon's Souls, where the game is made harder the more times you die, and you will die. The developers had the most sadistic enemy/level/location combos. Skeletons wielding massive axes that send you flying back? They're on cliffs, where giant stingrays fly around and shoot massive spikes at you while battling them. Cthulhu looking enemies that can stun you for a very long time and then do a grab attack that deals massive amounts of damage? They're down long, narrow hallways or on stairways.

Then Dark Souls came out, which is the spiritual successor to Demon's Souls. Same gameplay ideas, except now it's an open world type game, rather than a central hub connected to ports to other levels.

A beautiful thing about Demon's and Dark Souls, is how basic it is, and I don't mean that in a bad way. It didn't put in a lot of fluff and stuff for no reason. They gave it what it needs, where it needs it, and didn't use a bunch of gimmicks to fill in the lacking spots. And the story is amazing. Subtlety at its finest. Most people that play probably don't even know that there is a story, as it's there, but not pointed out, as opposed to other games where a cutscene happens and says "THIS IS THE STORY AND WHY!" Unlike most games with multiple endings, Dark Souls didn't have a cut and dry good and bad ending. It's up to you to decide which one is the "good" and "bad." Both endings can be either, depending on how you look at them.

This is not a game that makes you feel like a bad ass, either. Not particularly, anyway. You will die, a lot. Enemies will rape you, a lot. But after dying to the same boss ten to twenty times, and you finally kill them, you feel like a bad ass.

Oh yeah, also the characters in the games are ones you tend to care about. In the pictures, you'll notice a lot of Solaire of Astora. Guy is awesome in Dark Souls. As is "Onion Bro," as people call him. His real name being Siegmeyer of Catarina. Big ol' fat guy wearing a suit of armour that looks a lot like an onion, with a personality of "I'm a bit chunky so I can't go doing any of the really athletic moves to get past these obstacles, but I'm sure if I just sit here, something will happen or I'll come up with a brilliant idea."

And Demon's Souls still has the greatest moment in gaming history that made me feel most like a dick, and that was against Garl Vinland and Lady Astraea. Their boss fight itself was nothing spectacular, Garl Vinland is a melee fighter with a shield and high magic defense, and Astraea can be killed by ranged very easily and in another way I'll cover in a second, but they have a hidden ability. Guilt tripping the ever living hell out of you. This really is about how your first encounter with them goes:

They just want you to leave them in peace, and plead with you to do so. If you kill Vinland, and go speak to Astraea, she says she can no longer resist you, and to take your precious demon soul, then commits suicide. At no point have I ever felt lower after beating a boss.

Sorry, I just love Demon's and Dark Souls.

If they move this to pc, like the first one, I surely hope they will spend a while with the port. The first demon souls is stuck at 1024x768 something res unless you download a fix.

I heard the other games were progressively hard to beat. Is that true? I like me a challenge :D

First Dark Souls, mate. Demon's Souls is a Playstation exclusive.

They're notoriously difficult games, that are designed to screw you over whenever they can. Demon's Souls was the harder of the two for me, and the one that tried to be the biggest dick to you with level/enemy placement.
