manthony_Higgs
Check this out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ej6oRsKv6cY I never knew about Starfox Virtual Boy until I saw this.
Snys93
Yeah I saw that. I wondered about the "robot leg" thing, it makes sense now. I was thinking of putting that in my fanfic.
manthony_Higgs
Makes you wonder if Krystal had to have her legs lopped off when she joined the team. Kinda grisly if you think about it.
Icy
There have probably been a dozen topics on the robot legs and on this video itself, lol.

Icy
Not that I saw. I searched for "Did you know gaming" and got nothing http://starfox-online.net/topic/10632-did-you-know-gaming-starfox/ http://starfox-online.net/topic/10653-starfox-video/ Not your fault. I was just pointing it out! I don't get why people are so annoyed when a repost happens, especially for interesting videos like this. Some people may not have seen it and aren't going to find it beneath all the threads buried on SFO.
psy_commando
I think its kinda sad that they reach a lot of people with their videos, and don't put much effort in finding true and interesting things. There are quite a few other mysteries / interesting topics / little known facts in the starfox franchise, to name a few : Fox's Dad, the black hole, out of this dimension, the Nintendo Power comics(if they had read it they could have avoided a couple of mistakes on the sf snes universe), the long extinct / disapeared civilization in sf snes(those from whom Andross took the plans for the telekinetic amplifier) and in the following titles, the silver phoenix, hidden content in the early sf2 roms, etc.. About the amputation thing ( ) , I'll add to what patch said on it : 1. They actually say in "Did you know gaming" that its a theory (and a really creative and stupid one).2. Why didn't they amputate at the hip, to get the full benefits for amputating their legs ?3. Contrarily to what they say, the G-Diffuser already existed in the first game. Its mentioned in the 1993 official nintendo powers comics, in the promotional art that came with the soundtrack, in many third party game guides in Japan, along with the first party Mission File Printout guide book : (link)4. In the comics, lots of non-pilot characters wore the same metal boots, along with Andross' ground troops, and Falco wore shoes showing his bare "legs" and not knee high boots, they also mention Falco's socks being smelly. ( Patch already said that, but I think it should be insisted on ) Edited December 12, 2012 by DZComposer Removed unnecesarry deviant art redirect
Drasiana
The "metal legs" thing is honestly the goddamn stupidest theory I have ever heard come out of this fandom, and that is saying a whole fucking lot. Like Psy said, the G-Diffuser renders the entire concept useless from the get-go, but it also only applies to the first game--based on the leg models of a bunch of puppets, which were probably only designed like that to help them stand--which suddenly everyone thinks has precedence over the rest of the series (where the characters have more normal-looking legs). Plus the entire idea of "LOL LETS CHOP OUR LEGS OFF 2 BE BETTR PILOTS LOOOL" is incomprehensibly stupid, especially when you consider that you still need feet to control parts of the plane. And if it was at the point that the robot legs were so sophisticated they could accurately pilot a plane without any direct neurological input then the technology is advanced enough that either a) the plane can fly itself or b) THERE EXISTS AN ALTERNATIVE TO CUTTING OFF YOUR FUCKING LEGS. The entire theory sounds like something an eight year old comes up with upon their first awkward playthrough of the game to impress his friends, along with other statements like "ugh I hate Slippy she's so annoying". The other bits in the video could be interesting to anyone who wasn't a complete Star Fox nerd, though the "did you know Nintendo games sometimes reference other Nintendo games?" one was sorta weak.

Ori
Well, this video cleared up some questions I had and stuff, but, well hell, they had to come up with that robot-leg crap. Short version: I'd GLaDLY accept this generous and totally legitimate theory, but after a detailed analysis, it doesn't meet some of my criteria, such as common sense, or any at all. Long version: -----------------------------BEGIN OF RANT------------------------------- Firstly, the 'NO LEGS DUE TO BLOOD AND GEES AND HERPITY DURP' thing is a whole sinister lie that only someone as insane as The Medic would come up with, like the others mentioned. IIRC the Apollo astronauts didn't have to do that to counter the re-entry forces, nor the astronauts of any goddamn program. AND we've already sent animals in space, and AFAIK we didn't have to cut their limbs to do that. (Though issues DID cause failures. Point taken, still no amputation and was more of a failed construction of the craft itself.) Second, how in the world they think that they can compare worst-case G forces to average fighter planes? Besides, IIRC the pilots need to pass heavy batteries of training and tests to pilot a fighter plane. Even so, we've seen many examples that only extreme, and I mean EXTREME conditions can cause a faint. During the famous accident of 1983 with a Israeli pilot, his F-15 lost one of the wings and was spinning for a considerable time. Even so the pilot didn't faint or crash, actually managing to land the fighter. There's also various high-G maneuvers that don't require a limb amputation, such as the Pugachev's Cobra and many others that can submit both the airframe and the pilot to stress. Once again, nobody without training and physical preparation is able to do this. So if I am correct, and I usually am in this kind of matter, Fox (and pretty much anyone in the SF universe) has preparation for this kind of situation. And if not, it leads to the next question: Q: "But what about Krystal? She came from a tribal civilization!" A: You forgot something. *Cue Wheatley voice* Wait a minute, wha-what's that sound? Oh yes, that's the bloody sound of SCIENCE! Pseudo science. Very advanced and unlegit for human standards. Actually. Not anything impossible for a bloody advanced civilization, though. So, not a moron. */Wheatley voice* *Cue Cave Johnson voice* I will say this - and I'm gonna say it on tape so everybody hears it a hundred times a day: the StarFox series DOESN'T need to have the same science limitations as our Earth Prime here. Otherwise that'd just be 'Flying-Planes-With-Foxes-In-Another-Earth-The-Game'. */Cave Johnson voice* So that makes another possibility; the Arwings are so easy even someone as dumb as the Apollo Conspiracy idiots or the Leg-Amputation Rumor morons can do it. I don't really doubt it is harder than fly a plane, and I say it because, AFAIK, it isn't impossible for just anyone (unless they're really stupid) otherwise there wouldn't exist flight schools. And like it was confirmed twice or more above, the G-Difusers are also there in the case a worst-case situation happens. Third, common sense of sanity; Do you even imagine how excruciating the process for such a thing can be? And if that's not enough, okay then, I guess that implanting electronic equipment to the body or whatever and having to place a electronic implant in the brain in order for that to work correctly isn't too bad after all. Just try not to get near any sources of EMP, otherwise guess what? The tiny microchip about the size of a postcard that you didn't even remember that was there will start to beep and vibrate and glow red meaning it's about to hit 5000 degrees. So you'd also might want to occasionally do maintenance, requiring your head to be opened and over and over once in a while. Seriously, what kind of idiot would do that? (nope.gif) And to hammer this case closed, remember: StarFox is ANTRHOPOMORPHIC-based and we all know that anthropomorphic characters are notorious for lacking a sense of proportions. So if their legs appear too thin, skeletal-robotic or whatever crap, just try to think a bit before spilling the sea of crap out of your mouth and telling it's legit. ----------------------------------------END OF RANT---------------------------------------- Excluding anything involving G-difusers and boots, they actually serve some purpose to post-2000-game SF noobs like me. Never knew much about the first games and the cancelled ones.
