Fana McCloud
...Has the world ended yet? I'm kinda getting bored waiting. XD But anyway, I wanted to wish everyone a happy winter solstice, at least for those of us in the northern hemisphere - if you're south of the equator it's the summer solstice and I hate you for having an abundance of warm weather. Why am I doing this? Because believe it or not, my family doesn't celebrate Christmas. My mother is neo-pagan, my step-father is an atheist, and I'm agnostic. Strangely solstices and equinoxes are holidays agreeable to all our persuasions, fancy that. But I also think the winter solstice is important because it makes us aware of the realities of this little rock we live on, its rhythms and cycles and just how precariously balanced they are. The ancient peoples of this rock we call Earth were extremely worried that the sun might not come back, that it might just keep sinking and sinking in the sky and just disappear altogether. They paid attention to the weather because it was life or death for them, unfavorable weather could get them in any number of ways. If the sun disappeared no crops would grow, though they'd be just as likely to freeze to death before the lack of food got 'em. If the Earth wasn't happy it could send in a hurricane that killed people in droves and destroy livelihoods in an instant, or monsoons that created flooding. In western culture we seem to be insulated against many of those realities because we've either found ways to engineer away a lot of the risk or we shove it onto the third world. And that's what worries me - our lack of consciousness of just how fragile the systems of our planet can be. So happy solstice everyone, and do what you can to make sure that sun still rises for generations to come. I've got my mini solstice tree with blinking lights, and I'll even light a candle in the hopes that the planet continues to sustain us.
Patch93
It was supposed to "end" at 11:11 Universal time, which in my area would have been 3:11 AM. (PST) This is the exact same stupidity that people did back in 1999 with the whole Y2K shit. I really wish they would just stop making these idiotic doomsday theories when they have no scientific evidence to back it up. Nobody knows when the world will actually end. The Shaper
Merry Christmas everyone, enjoy this holiday season knowing that your joy and jubilation makes me sick to my stomach. As for the end of the world? Been there done that. Since all of the Christians aren't going to be around, I've already gone on my Atheistic Rape and Murder spree since nobody will be able to punish me in the long term.
Snys93
Well until 2060, if we're all alive and in wheelchairs until then.
Dr. Orange
I love Xhristmas. The cookies and hot chocolate. Being with family. And spending the whole 24th night sitting on the roof with a 12. gauge shotgun waiting for that red hatted bastard. Happy Holidays. :
Hidi
Well nothing happened during the game I played last night, and things worked quite well in our favour! Seeing that people are so gullible, I won't be surprised if it happens again. I'll just laugh my way through another "No Idiots Day".
