Where are we going?

Snys93

Snes1993 here, talking about the world, the universe and beyond. The discussion can go from Climate Change to wayward asteroids, from threat of nuclear war to finding a new planet to call home using star ships within a 100 years.

In other words, will the fate of the human race be like a hollywood movie script? Maybe not. But truly, what do you as a member of a species think of the direction of your race? Where are you going? How will you get there? And what will you do then?

I see more of a mass die-off of our species since in more places than not we are overpopulated and either rich or starving. I don' really want to input more of my opinion, but I don't see the entire human race disappearing simply because of nuclear bombs and climate change.

Humans will ruin themselves naturally from the lack of ability to accept new ideas. There will be a great war but it's too early to say between who/what. Third world will laugh for a moment. In the end, Matt Damon will become High King. The end.

If we ever meet our end I feel it will be through the encounter of another space faring species.  Not to say that there for sure is another sentient life out there, but if we do encounter one that will be the end of it.  They will view us as an inferior race and have no reason to let us live.

Okay so we'll meet up with some aliens right? It'll be like Mass Effect where they have their own little alien social club.  Naturally we'll want in but the aliens will be like "You can hang around us but until we figure out what you're like you're not part of the club." So we'll throw a hissy fit and instead of us winning like in Mass Effect we'll get our asses handed to us and we'll be the proverbial galactic janitorial staff as our punishment.  I'm from the future, that's how it happens, i swear gaiz

Personally, I think something is coming. Not anything like the 2012 thing or the 2060 prediction. I'm talking about a change of ideals or a massive and radical destabilization of government and commercialism. Who knows.

Commercialism....Capitalism.....Consumerism......This is true; for the world to come to some point of sustainability, our capitalist society will eventually have to go. As much as we obsess over "economy" it's killing us, and it shows.

I believe that all life on earth will be destroyed by a stray asteroid. And not because we don't know how to deviate them, or how to spot them early on. But because when the time would come to launch the rocket to intercept the asteroid, someone will cry copyright(Or patent) infringement and ground the rocket for the duration of the legal case, which will be enough for us all to die <_<

It's seems to be merely a trait of humans to kill off those they deem inferior; I doubt any spacefaring race would hold the same outlook if they've made it that far.

Humanity will not last forever and that's been known by humans since they first gained sentience, and it deals into our fascination with the end of the world. If the irony of the universe is the only constant we have to work with, then it's humanity's obsession with the future rather than the present that will ultimately let the catalyst of the apocalypse slip past our line of sight and into the very future we so obsessed with.

So humanity in a way will psyche itself into an apocalypse? Interesting.

More that our obsession with what is to come distracts our attention from the present. The present is, after all, where one tends to plant the seeds of disaster, when enough proper attention isn't paid to till it.

There's another reason for that....(Not even a Canadian has to tell you that capitalism will probably be the reason the Earth collapses in itself).

Also, when I say consumerism isn't good, I don't think communism is good either.

Yeah I know, I was just making fun of the over-reactive "red baters" who automatically think someone is a communist just because they don't support capitalism, even though they don't support communism either.

There are certainly some quite fundamental challenges to be dealt with in global capitalism if we're to have any kind of peaceful future. Unfortunately this will also entail changing some very fundamental ways in which people think and act, not least in the way in which powerful political figures make decisions, but also in how peasants like you and me use and are used by market consumerism. These are changes that take generations, and by that time it will already be too late for us, but not our descendants.

Also, those aliens I mentioned?  Some of them are essentially giant spiders with hands.  It's terrifying and the actual reason I went back in time.  So don't go to teh future, unless spider-hand-monsters are your idea of a cool friend.

I'm glad your journey through time was better than mine. I can only travel forward in time with relative ease, but its the going back part thats painful.

Being de-atomized through a spacial-time rift without a proper ship or capsule and being reassembled on the other side is sure agony. I would have died a long time ago if I wasn't a demi-god.
