Lent

Give up Pepsi and Coke, I know you like those?

I'm giving up meat. I've done it before so I know I can do it again! However I'm still having fish - I'll need protein from somewhere.

No compensating with another soda though! Just water for you. :P I bet you'll feel healthier for it too. XD

I'm having fish instead of meat. I'll be making fish pie and tuna pasta dishes. Guh, I hope I don't gain weight with those extra carbs in my diet. :/

Also just realised I have enough meat for 2 portions of currywurst. Rage.

Well now I enter the conversation...

I've been known to be quite the potty mouth. And on more than one occasion I've blurted out swear words by accident. So I'm trying to cut down on that. So no more bleeps and bleeps.

I CLAIM THIS THREAD FOR LEGION!

Welp, the only thing I know of that would really test me, more so than food, is letting go of computers and my urge to steal traffic signs. I'd probably get over them both by starting to run again. Thing is, you never feel good about making yourself run six miles until after the fact.

This is so damn true.

In fact, you've inspired me for what I should do for this whole Lent thing. I'm gonna give up my chronic laziness and start running again.

BOO YA.

I have given up all range of carbohydrates including sugar, bread, things of that sort. It's gonna be tough and very interesting to see my resolve in this manner.

I do this every year, but i usually just go along with the no meat on Fridays.

This year i think soda will do. I haven't had it for a while now since wrestling has kept me away from it. But before that i drank enough of the stuff to make myself feel like crap often. I think'd be better is i just used this to stop for good.

This belongs in the pub.

I'm giving up nothing. I don't do Christianity.

How? The topic was asking people if they're giving up anything for Lent, it was not promoting religious discussion. Lent may be a Christian/Catholic event but most people do it just to see if they can, which is why I did it in the first place.

Anyway. I believe that fasting from something I usually have brings me mental strength and also detoxes my body. Going pescatarian will mean that my food will generally have less fat in it, so I'm also starting a new 30 day workout called Ripped in 30 to reap the most benefit. :D

In my defence, I live in a very religous state in a very religous country. There is no "secular lent" where I live. Nor am I implying that making healthier eating choices bt refraining from eating certain things is meaningless. I just don't think you need a special time of year for it.

I left a shadow topic in the general board, so people can still get to this thread from there. But if you want to move it back, whatever. I don't really care that much.

So today I was in work and usually, I have a cooked breakfast with sausages. Today I had potato scones, fried eggs, mushrooms, tomatoes and beans instead! NO MEAT! But damn I wanted it. :/

I think today was one of temptation to be honest. I was cooking in the kitchen all day, training up to take on a new position in my job, and it was like... meat, meat everywhere. I even had a near-miss - as I was cooking, I nibbled on some excess stuff we weren't going to sell, but I quickly realised it was the crust of some chicken nugget and I spat it out right away. Gah. :/

I already gave up a lot of what I care for food-wise in the interest of financial survival. Maybe I can resolve to stop being poor? :troll:

Yeah, I got nothin' really.

I was gonna go for the whole 40 days span, just like Redeemer here.

How long are you guys doing this for?

For the entire timeframe, I will. Ladies and Gentlemen, or those desperate, I'll let you in on a not-so-secret. Sunday is not considered part of Lent (I'm not making this up) so you are free to take up that which you gave up, not that you HAVE to take up but better then than on the days you weren't supposed to. Handy in a pinch.

That's cheating! If people are going to give in on the Sunday, then there's no point in them doing Lent at all. :/

(I've been out a while, figure I need to return to the forum!)

I'm Catholic! I didn't really "give up" anything for Lent, because a lenten promise isn't always fasting, it's the time to better yourself.

So for my promise, I've decided to cut down on fattening foods, start eating better, actually make good on my promise to exercise more, and actually keep my apartment clean on a regular basis!

Hopefully I can make this a regular thing and actually lose some weight and stop living like such a slob

I know the feeling. Thursday was Valtine's day as you all know. Lots of people where handing stuff out at school, like cake balls and brownies. But i couldn't eat because of wrestling and i had to sit there and watch

Good for you, Runner!

And man AJC, isn't damn hard isn't it? It's not so much at home but in work we serve sausages, bacon, lorne, lasagne, cottage pie, steak pie and chicken paninis. And I just want it all. ;_;

But at home I can make epic things, like today's lunch: Mushroom and cheddar omelet with chilli and garlic seasoning. And it was only 250 calories. I'd much rather have that!
