Why does my TV seem to hate my PS3?

Xortberg

Question

I just got a used Samsung TV thanks to my awesome neighbors who gave it to me since they were replacing it anyway. I have a PS3, but the TV doesn't have an HDMI input so I HAVE to use the basic red/yellow/white A/V cords. When I start up the PS3, it plays normally for a minute or so, then the picture craps out and goes to a black screen. It's -just- the picture, because if I turn the TV off and on again it picks right back up where it left off until the picture dies again.

I'm hoping it's just a problem with the A/V cable I have, which has been packed away for a while because I haven't used it since I moved quite some time ago. If it's just the cable, that's an easy replacement. Still, has anyone seen any problems similar to this and if so, are you able to confirm or deny it?

I know occasionally my PS3 will not recognize that there is an HDMI cable in it when it first starts up, and will show a black screen.  Perhaps this works on a similar basis; it may not detect a valid place to send the video.  Before you try anything, it seems as if the best option is to replace the set of composite A/V cables.

Does your TV support component cables as opposed to composite?; you can get HD and a generally reliable cable set too -

The TV does support component cables. I'm on limited funds, though, so I'll only get them if I can find some that are reasonably priced. I'm gonna go shopping tomorrow, so I'll report back then whether it was a success or not.

Monoprice has some of the best cables out there and has incredible value; paying anything more than $5 for a set of component cables, HDMI, or anything of the sort is just a ripoff.  Good luck, Xort; I'd definitely jump on that deal if online shopping is an option.

Okay, I had this problem with my Samsung TV set and my N64 believe it or not.  I fixed it by simply plugging my TV into another outlet.  Have you tried this?  For some reason, when I would play any game on my Samsung TV, the TV would turn off, but the audio would still play, and the game would play as normal.  To this day, I don't know why changing the outlet I plugged my TV into worked, but it did.  Try it, plug it into another outlet plug, try another circuit completely though, don't just switch to the plug underneath the one you're using.

After getting a new cable, it seems that was indeed the problem. It's been showing me picture for 5 or so minutes now without any issues. So, problem solved!

Thanks for the help, folks. And definitely thanks for providing me with that website. I'll keep it bookmarked XD
