Xidphel
HAPPY STARCRAFT DAY, EVERYONE! I'd like to join you in playing HotS single player but a certain other game caught my eyes and I've been too busy raging about it. That one but with more English However, I know of a better way to celebrate the release of the latest expansion:With PETA news! tl;dr Whoever is in charge of PETA's resources has officially gone completely insane. Gaming and PETA go together like peanut butter and some really fucking stupid bugs that keep swarming over the peanut butter trying to get your attention. In their long and storied history, they have protested Pokemon glamorizing cockfighting, Mario glamorizing the fur industry, Cooking Mama glamorizing Thanksgiving, and recently, Assassins Creed glamorizing whaling. Not content to just sit back and look like a bunch of asshats once a year, PETA are now planning to protest Starcraft II, for cruelty against rhe Zerg. I am dead serious. "PETA—or, as we are renaming ourselves in honor of the expansion pack's launch, "Terrans for the Ethical Treatment of Zerglings"—will attend tonight's launch event in Irvine, California, and distribute copies of our new "Zerglings Have Feelings, Too" leaflets as a reminder that gamers and nongamers alike should have compassion for all beings—even those who are very different from us." If this is a joke, its a fucking terrible one. It has all the sincerity of PETAs older videogame "parodies", just without the self defeating shock value. "So remember, while Zerglings are not real, there are many equally "strange" and exotic animals we share this planet with who deserve our empathy. Just because crocodiles and snakes look alien to us, that doesn't make it OK to skin them alive for a handbag, shoes, or a belt." Well, thats not acompletely accurate, as the Zerg are not reptilian, so much as insectoid, making them *SLAPS SELF* WHY AM I DEBATING PETA?!!? PETA appears to be using this event to try and stir up discussion among gamers about animal equality, linking to a summary of the book Animal Liberation. I hardly feel I need to explain the problem with this, but for those of you who want to hear me rant: Attempting to promote compassion towards non-friendly looking animals by comparing them to videogame aliens doesn't work if the aliens are a race of hive minded killing machines who mindlessly serve the will of a malevolent consciousness. You goddamn hippy morons. At this point, I would ask how any of you think PETA could possibly make a bigger jackass of themselves, but I honestly can't see it. Still, if you wanna try. leave me a note in the comments. The most creative (stupidest) suggestion will be left on PETA's forums, just to see if they actually do it. » Source: http://www.peta.org/b/thepetafiles/archive/2013/03/11/peta-starcraft-zerglings-have-feelings-too.aspx » Tagged In: #community showcase, #PC, #PETA, #Publicity, #StarCraft II Yup. It seems like PETA (or TETZ as they want to be known there) seems to be against the abuse of zerglings, the burning of zerglings, the nuking of zerglings and other forms of zergling disposal. Why would people do that anyways? I find that... I think they're... They look like... TETZ! I can't find anything bad to say about this (Zerg user)! I suppose that the fact that PETA supports the swarm would make zerg users look bad but that's it!
Redeemer
Laughed so hard I almost peed. Why can't they target real problems, like illegal dog fighting, whaling, or ivory poaching? This is probably an attention stunt.
Faisul
PETA is notorious for going absolutely berserk over non-issues. Like, I can understand someone being slightly concerned of the portrayal of 'people using animals to fight' in Pokemon but not nearly enough to turn it into a political issue. They could choose anything to go after, actual animal abuse, and do it well but they always choose to do stupid stunts like this, presumably for PR. They just didn't seem to get the memo that no, not all PR is good PR. As a result, every real animal rights activist group considers them to be a blight, since everything PETA does makes people doing actual good work and not just farting around look like idiots to the public. In summation: Kill All Zerg
jeth
Wow... Just... Woooooooow. And I thought that the fuss they put up over the tanooki suit a while ago was crazy.
Redeemer
When I was in high school, a friend of mine who was vegan asked me to join PETA. I asked him what it was about, he said "we fight for animal rights" and I was like, "okay, cool" and signed up. Then the mail. Oh god the mail. Through the door, via email, it was horrendous. Reading the first few I actually wondered who would let them carry on in such a destructive way. I'm all for animal rights, as you all know, because I'm very much an animal person. Speaking of which, they banned animal testing for beauty products, FINALLY. But yeah, PETA suck and are just way too radical and self-righteous.
The Shaper
Zerglings are parasitic vermin who would kill us all if they existed anyway, which they don't. I'm convinced that PETA doesn't even care about the issues anymore and they just hate video games, using the stupidest stunts to garner public attention rather than actually accomplishing what they are supposed to do. You know, I bet one day PETA will perform a stunt like this that is so stupid that it literally halts animal rights movements forever. Actually, they'll probably set them back considerably. Ivory issues will never be solved, the seal hunt will increase, we'll start hunting animals for their fur to make felt hats, and many more countries will devote their economies to whaling. Then, when your children ask you "Why are animals treated so unfairly?" In a few years, you can tell them "It all started with PETA's obsession with video games."
Dr. Orange
Xid, you had to make me spill my MtD. I mean they have a point at helping Croc's and Snakes. But these are Zerglings. Last I checked, The Zerg struck first, and Zerglings man, the don't fu*k around. CAN I GET A ZERG RUSH?!?! Yeah... lets be nice to these f***ers. Oh PETA... silly silly dumbasses. Fana McCloud
So what if the Zerg want to kill or assimilate us all into the swarm? The swarm is actually quite nice. I for one welcome this initiative to recognize the right of the Zerg to assimilate unhindered by the Terrans' evil attempts to quash the beautiful and natural habits of this magnificently horrific species. >:3
ballisticwaffles
I was going to attempt to offer my intellectual opinion on this, most likely being immensely pretentious and what not. But then i saw the Chibi-Zerg and all i could think of was " "
Patch93
I consider PETA to be absolute obvious trolls, no one can take them seriously.
TrishaCat
I'm looking forward to this game, actually. Has anyone here played Pokemon Black and Blue? It was hilarious, and actually pretty fun, and even had good music. I liked it. I don't think even PETA took itself seriously with it, with lines like "I herd u liek Mudkipz" or something like that. I do admit their reasons are dumb, at least in my opinion, but I like the games.
manthony_Higgs
I don't see why people are getting all riled up over this. It's just PETA. You can't be mad at PETA for being dumb and missing the point, just like you can't be mad at a baby for shitting it's pants. It's what they do. Babies poop, PETA sensationalizes teh tiniest things in order to get noticed AND HEY LOOKS LIKE IT'S WORKING BECAUSE THIS THREAD EXISTS.

TrishaCat
It'll be all right OrbiterSpore. I just find PETA to be a hilarious nuisance, and not much more. Though people who take what they say seriously and actually think these games are bad are indeed irritating.
DZComposer
Stop giving them attention. That's why they do this stuff.Seriously, if no one gave a rat's ass then they wouldn't do it.PETA is not about animal rights, it's about attention whoring.
Snys93
This goes to prove that PETA is a desperate organization with no agenda but to disrupt, cause conflict and completely blow out of proportion issues and topics. Hmmm, that sounds vaguely familiar.

NightFox
I like PETA... They make me laugh! This just another reason not to take these crazy "batcrap" morons seriously.
Harmony Descent
God, mother-- PETA, just do us a big favor. Hurl yourself off a cliff with a cement block chained to your ankles and noosed around your neck, and drown on your way to the ocean floor. This is probably an attention stunt. Yes, we need more effort to stop the damned whaling because the U.N doesn't have the stomach to stand up and tell Japan "no" I think Harmony's above statement sums it up well
Snys93
I treat them more like clowns: they're jokes, they say silly things and they pie people. I treat them like I do with George W. Bush and George Lucas. Don't take them seriously and have them as the brunt of all my gay jokes.
