Warframes: A 4 player co-op third person shooter/dungeon crawler RPG mix.

Imporant update to all of this, game is open beta now, so no need for the two sign ups I believe.

 

 

Now I'm sure some of y'all are thinking, "That sounds like a terrible combination!" And don't get me wrong, it does sound odd on paper, but the execution is really good. It's done by the folks that did Darkness II and a plethora of other games.

 

The game itself is very stylized with a great soundtrack. In it, you play as a Tenno, masters of the blade and gun, soldiers who after a war were put into cryostasis. Now an army known as the Grineer are conquering the solar system, and you have to go from planet to planet, each one having dozens of missions, and defeat them. Also in the system however, is the CORPUS group, and the Infested, which are infected forms of the other two factions, very similar to the Flood from HALO, just more dangerous.

 

Now as for how Warframes works, it's an over-the-shoulder shooter where you can have one primary (Assault rifles, shotguns, sniper, few odds and ends), one sidearm (Several types of single/dual pistols, and my personal favourite, the Bronco, a minishotgun), and a melee weapon (single/dual swords, dual axes, daggers, as well as a greatsword, greataxe, greathammer, and bo staff).

 

Each person can pick a Warframe, essentially their character, with each Warframe having its own abilities. There's no cover system for you, but you can peak around corners or over obstacles as it, and you can utilize sprints, sliding across the ground, and running up or along walls, which is a system that works very well. The shooting, melee, and movement are all very tight and feel good, and the game looks great.

 

Weapons and Warframes have an almost talent point like system where you can select upgrades that you want to fit your style, and currently there's a mod system where some of those "talents" are mod slots that let you put items that change the weapon/suit behaviour, whether it's more shields/health, faster movement, more stamina for the suit, or more damage, faster reloads, faster swinging/rate of fire, more ammo, more rounds in a magazine, whatever you want.

 

A great thing about the game is enemies aren't the stupidest things ever like most modern video game AI, and they actually are able to provide a challenge. I, personally, hate the enemies that are able to teleswap with you, they appearing where you were, and vice versa. when you're low shields and health, and suddenly appear in the middle of several guys with a shotgun, oh the rage.

Important update to this, the game is in open beta now. Anyone who signed up before got an exclusive pistol for being closed beta participants, but now you shouldn't need to jump through any hoops for a code.
