Guest
So apparently this is the closest new thing as to details http://www.nme.com/filmandtv/news/steven-moffat-doctor-who-finale-will-change-eve/306741 This is driving me crazy. It's DW day and i'm overflowing with all sorts of speculations. The quote from Coleman overthrows even the most ridiculous variants i've come up with. I just don't get it. I hope today's episode will contain one or two additional hints to the Clara mystery.
Snys93
Moffat's writing now compared to the Amy and Rory episodes reminds me of those pain-in-the-ass Alcatraz style bathroom faucets. A little here, but not enough there.
Battlechili
I've heard that this new season finale is going to be really big. I think we might learn something about The Doctor's name, as well. Apparently it has some sort of importance.
Dr. Orange
Apparently it has some sort of importance. This name can unite planets, destroy galaxies, rip holes in the fabric of space, and bring a universe to the brink of war and stop it at the some time. To correct the quote: This is going to be BIG! Guest
Even though I'm afraid that might come a bit short, I'm interested in seeing what the Whispermen actually do apart from hissing. You know, the Weeping Angels send you back in time, the Silents cast bolts that disintegrate you, the Spoonheads upload your mind, the empty child turns you into a gas mask thing and the Vasta Nerada eat you up. All Moffat monsters do something that makes them dangerous. What do they do? Just whisper?
Sarita
Well they're definitely creepy? I kinda want them to be involved in what Clara is.
Snys93
I just hope that when they reveal the Doctor's name they'll set aside the average "somethings wrong and we have to fix it in an episode" plot. For some reason that always bugged me.
Sarita
And I'm dead. Goodbye guys. That was fantastic. No reason to continue living. And then I remember that I have to stick around to watch that plot thread end in the 50th.
Snys93
Trezalore was a big let down. Didn't expect it to be a big graveyard. But the end was somewhat surprising.
Snys93
Matt Smith will no longer be the doctor Xmas day... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/tvandradio/doctor-who/10093520/Matt-Smith-to-quit-Doctor-Who-after-Christmas-special.html Lets see how well the next Doctor will be. Hopefully it will not be as sad as this leaving. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sVEY5AL5zzk
Xortberg
I'm glad to see him go. I love Matt Smith, possibly even more than I did Tennant (though definitely not more than Eccleston), and I'll be sad to see them put away the bow tie, but I've just been feeling the series has gotten a bit stale lately. Maybe a new face will fix things. I've also heard (though I have no source) that they're thinking about making it a female Doctor this time. That would certainly be interesting. If they do, I'd definitely want it to be an older lady.

Xortberg
Definitely not Betty White, as funny as it would be to see a hundred year-old granny intimidating the shit out of some Daleks XD I just wouldn't want it to be the type of characters we've been getting so much of lately. Doctors and companions both have all been young, attractive people, with Donna being the one who seemed the oldest (and also, incidentally, being my favorite companion). I want an older Doctor, period, whether male or female.
Snys93
So no hot doctor? That would be weird, way weird. New DW fan: "Whoa, who is she? Shes hot!" Old DW fan: "Thats actually a dude, technically." New DW fan:
Vy'drach
I really need to get around to watching this show, but I'd like to start at the beginning, or at least a reasonably earlier point in the series to get what's going on overall.

Unless you wanna watch from the absolute very beginning and work your way through eleven different Doctors, each with multiple seasons, then you'll probably wanna start with Christopher Eccleston's Doctor. The show had been off the air for a while or something like that, so they did a lot of work explaining shit for people who hadn't followed the older series so that it could relaunch. Sarita
Yeah, you're pretty safe starting from the 2005 reboot. They assumed most people hadn't seen Doctor Who at that time and used the opportunity to introduce a lot of information. If you decide to go back and watch through the whole series though, be aware that a good amount of it is missing. You'll see mention of episodes that the tapes got lost for in studio moves, for example. It also has much larger story arcs than we have now, with slower pacing and stuff, and the production values can be downright crap sometimes, but it has it's quirky loves. SoupUR_Villain
I've never watched Dr. Who, so I have no clue whats going on. I didn't like the idea of starting from the VERY beginning. sroberson
Didn't know we had a thread for Doctor Who...but I just read that the new Doctor and season is coming this Sunday. I have to admit I'm pretty excited, just hoping for a doctor different from Matt Smith and closer to David Tennant... in fact just bring back David and leave it at that. Sarita
You do of course know that David is back in the 50th Anniversary special, right? In other news, Peter Capaldi is our new Doctor. I will admit I'm enthused, his tenure on the show should be a good one.
Xortberg
I'm a bit disappointed that we aren't getting a female Doctor after all that talk in the fandom about how cool it would be. I kinda had an image of like, Professor McGonagall riding in the TARDIS and sternly scolding a Dalek into submission. But hey, at least he's an older actor. Eccleston was my favorite, and he was early 40s at the time, and Tennant was right after him in second place in his mid-late 30s. Statistically speaking, I tend to like older Doctors, so now that we have a 55 year old man we'll see if he can manage to outdo Eccleston.
Guest
They said the possibility was there, no-one was gonna exclude men, denying a possibly better male candidate the role just because a part of the fandom is curious as to how it would be with a female doctor. If I remember it right, Moffat said they were gonna cast whoever performed best in the casting. (and what was new) Regardless of gender or skin colour. I trust them as far to believe that he was the best that was there, yet there is a downside to casting a doctor that was a teenager when the series started. Of course they shook off the Twilight-accusation with it. But it also means, he would theoretically be available for a 60th anniversary, but things would be really tricky when it's about a 70th anniversary special. Okay, there would be a lot of doctors in between, but I'm just saying. Hartnell had to be replaced for a special at one point after all. Otherwise who knows what it's gonna be like. ballisticwaffles
The funniest thing about Peter Capaldi getting the role is that he previously played a Doctor in the World War Z movie. The funny part about that is that the organization was the acronym, W.H.O. From a W.H.O. Doctor, to Doctor Who.

Moffat made it pretty clear today that he never wanted there to be a female doctor when he made some childish comment about how "yeah, and I'VE always wanted a man to play the Queen". The guy's a douche and I kind of wish they'd get a new showrunner for the new series.
