Battlechili
So the trailer for Metal Gear Solid V came out today. Can anyone make any sense of it? I've played Metal Gear Solid 2 and Metal Gear Solid 4 all the way through. Also, anyone just want to just discuss the Metal Gear series in general? Snys93
I just thought it was a game of stealth. But now I don't know what the hell is going on. Snake was (or is) awesome and not just because of that cardboard box (lol). With this new game, it just seems like any other game out there and doesn't seem original. Well, maybe I'll have to play it for myself and see.
Xortberg
I haven't watched the trailer yet, but I'm hesitant to play another MGS game. Bad memories with MGS4. I just wanted the cutscene to end so I could join my friends for a game. But it just... wouldn't... STOOOOOOOP! Seriously, people give games like FF13 flak for "being a movie instead of a game," but some cutscenes in MGS4 are two hours long. I know this. I timed it. It was literally two hours. Pretty badass series, though. I've played through MGS2, 3, and 4, and I watched someone else play the original. I tend to disagree with people who insist that the series is the absolute pinnacle of storytelling, though. It's not bad, but it's nowhere near the praise I've heard it get IMO. DoctorAllosaurus
This is all just speculation but I think this is the game where Big Boss ends up getting his snatcher parts which iirc was mentioned in a codec call in Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake. If that doctor at the end of the trailer is who I think it is (Drago Petrovich Madnar), then my theory may be correct.
CrypticQuery
It is rather worrisome that David Hayter was not contacted regarding the game according to his Twitter account. - Otherwise though, the FOX engine is beautiful and I imagine it will be nothing short of an impressive game. That's really hard to believe right now after the whole Moby Dick studios thing. Methinks Kojima isn't done with the silly head-games.
Vy'drach
The sense of the trailer is that the original MGSV trailer was for Ground Zero, is a prequel to the game and will be on the disc, playable of course. In the events of that Big Boss goes into a coma from the destruction of Outer Heaven, and he wakes up nine years later. The crawling around the hospital part is apparently from part of a tutorial segment of the beginning of The Phantom Pain. As for the guy riding the fiery alicorn, I have no idea, but it's far from the weirdest thing I've seen in Metal Gear. Not like Peace Walker didn't have Monster Hunter enemies. Harmony Descent
So the trailer for Metal Gear Solid V came out today. Can anyone make any sense of it? I've played Metal Gear Solid 2 and Metal Gear Solid 4 all the way through. Also, anyone just want to just discuss the Metal Gear series in general? It boggles my mind why people consider games that come out to be named another numeral that it's NOT supposed to be. I know the title of the game says that, but it's not considered so chronologically; it's SUPPOSED to just be "Metal Gear" since it takes place before Metal Gear I. But, since Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater had "3" in it, I shouldn't go on a self-induced rant over something so little. Anyways, I'm liking the FOX engine! Granted, it still needs some work done with it to keep up with other graphical physics teams, such as Havok or Unreal Engine, but I think this engine can hold out on its own. As for the steal, I'm still not too keen with this one. I'm still feeling some MGS4 vibes with this game since MGS4 was more about action and story than it was about steal, granted steal was still in the game - almost like how Dead Space 3 focused on action than on the scares, but the scares were still there. What I do enjoy is the now wide area you can explore while testing your stealth skills. This makes for more opportunities for you to screw up and review your mistakes so that you won't make that mistake again in your next playthrough - that is, if this game will see excessive playthroughs, which I'm pretty sure it will as with the other Metal Gear games. I like the drivable vehicles touch to it, but let's not overuse it in this game. Yes, it's nice to drive one to get from point A to point B quicker, but I think it would become too much of a distraction if it's implemented too much. I don't want to feel like I'm playing a stealth version of GTA; that's not what MGS is. I just hope this game becomes more than I suspect since I don't want to go into a game and my suspicions be correct - that turns me off whenever I'm playing a game. [off-topic] Same thing happened to me whenever I attempted to play those Slender games: Started it up, expected to see random jump-scares, saw them and just exited the game before I got to the fourth page because it got too obnoxious and I never felt the slightest bit scared - I felt more annoyed than anything else. Well it's Big Boss, not snake. He had a different VA in 4 too. But I'm super stoked, I have loved every game in the series (except for Snake's Revenge, mostly because its the one I haven't played) and this looks awesome. WOLFjr
From what I looked up, this is definitely Big Boss we'll be playing as (obviously). From what I'm guessing, this will be when Big Boss breaks away from FOX. Also, in the trailer, that flaming soldier that was seen is supposedly Volgin from MGS3. It more properly, an apparition or ghost of Volgin.

Vulvokunvrii
You're Naked Snake a few months after Snake Eater and an organization called "Cypher" is trying to run a muck and posed as Foxhound units. I guess the Burn skinned guy is the main villian and MABYE this guy is part of the reason Outer Heaven exists. Because all the game build up to Metal Gear Solid 4 wehre war is a dail thing and soldier have stuff to do, but they are being regulated and controlled by the S.O.P. system so life sorta sucks becasue everyone is fighting proxy battles/wars all in a grand scheme for Revolver Ocelot/Doppleganger Liquid Snake to destroy The Patriots so he can free the soldiers and anyone else from the Patriots' control. Becasue apparently, the Patriots (a bunch of A.I. programs, though the original guys died year ago) had controlled the United States. The President in MGS2 sort of explains this ti Raiden when yo get a face to face talk with the PODUS. So MGS5 is probably a few months before Zanibar Island (Zanzibarland?) incident where The Big Boss goes rogue and Solid Snake (one of Naked Snakes' clones-the others being Liquid and Solidus) has to kill him. So mabye MGS5 will shed some more light as to why Big Boss/Snake Snake goes rogue perhaps?
Vy'drach
This takes place after Peace Walker, Dark, which happened in 1974, where as Snake Eater was in the 60's.

Like I said before, it's possibly a GHOST of Volgin. Either that or it's a completely new soldier/monster created completely, given that we see the soldier riding on a horse made of fire with firey wings.
