So remember I was all like "hey, Lucasarts doing a Star Fox game would be totally awesome"? Well now they won't make anything awesome, because Disney just killed them: http://techcrunch.com/2013/04/03/disney-shuts-down-lucasarts-just-154-days-after-acquiring-it/

There is so much seething rage now. : /

I just don't get why..

Sure, they're known for all the wonderful point-click adventure games back in the 90s, and also for the early 3D Star Wars games... and I love all the Indiana Jones games, but still, even if they haven't done very much recently, they're still, like.. I don't even know what to call them.

It is a sad day.

This is bullshit. Way to ruin Star Wars 1313, Disney. Way to go.

All I will say. I'll let Disney comment.

I was so freaking pissed off when I heard about this. :T Not to mention this pretty much means Star Wars 1313 and First Assault are dead.

I wonder how Mr. Lucas is feeling about all this. Disney, shutting down his baby.

It pains me, but at the same time, it was sold willingly and really... Disney are tyrants, in the business sense. I feel I should have seen this coming.

RIP LucasArts. What else will Disney ruin?

And this is why we all love Disney. ._.

I was hoping that somehow Disney getting the rights to LucasFilm would be a good thing. That was naïve, wasn't it?

Well, LucasArts hasn't been even a shadow of its former self for about a decade now, and Disney shutting it down, while unpopular, was probably a wise business decision on their part. They own Star Wars now, so it's likely that any projects LucasArts were doing will go to a Disney studio instead, along with the talent. If there's anyone left at this point. The company made amazing games, yes, but that was when I was in diapers. Most of the Grim Fandango/Monkey Island guys have probably left for greener pastures and/or died. Not saying I'm overjoyed over this or that they haven't made great games since the adventure game heydays, but I'm not surprised.

Yeah. Sorry but what was the last great title put out by them, again? Honestly, it seemed like a choice between shutting them down now or just waiting for them to go bankrupt. If anything you have a chance for better games now because Disney will be able to sell/lend IPs to more competent studios, instead of just sitting on them doing nothing while churning out mediocre Star Wars games. I know people like to get on their soapbox about how DISNEY RUINS EVERYTHING but the good games that LucasArts put out--in the 90's--won't cease to exist just because they've finally bit the bullet. The worst thing to come out of this is the layoff of the workers but I don't think they should have too much of a problem getting hired by another gaming company.

Well I was really hoping for 1313. That was going to be the first Star Wars game I would have bought since JK2. So ein mist.

I was hoping for SW: Battlefront 3 as well.

Sad but not unexpected.    The last game they made (not published) was Star Wars Kinect, and that was a total shitshow.  They just weren't making/publishing good games anymore and couldn't rake in the cash.  I'm sad too, but the lucasarts that was shut down yesterday was a far cry from the one that made Sam and Max and the Dark Forces saga.

If anything Disney would probably use Telltale as a third-party to throw IPs at in the hopes that they'd make an actual good game out of. People really, really want to demonize Disney for everything they've been doing recently as far as their business acquisitions have gone, but all I see are improvements, the basis for improvements, and some Star Wars sequels that have a pretty solid crew--including ORIGINAL TRILOGY staff and actors--for what everyone was expecting.

Yeah, there were a couple of impressive-looking games in the making but they were ALWAYS cancelled. When I think about it, I don't think anything would have come from them again. It's sort of a relief to the fans, at least they won't get the "here are some screencaps from an awesome game we're releasing soo-oh sorry it's cancelled" anymore. Onwards and upwards, perhaps Disney will surprise us yet. :/

Yeah.......... Once the shock of them closing has worn off you start to realize that they've been hemorrhaging money for a few years now, due to a line of games that didn't take off. Force Unleashed 2 being the biggest disappointment for me. As much as I'd have liked to have seen 1313, it probably was on the verge of getting cancelled anyway.

You still gotta remember the good games they did make though, my favorites were Shadows of the Empire, Rogue Squadron, and Battle for Naboo.

EDIT: Still, with all these acquisitions and shutdowns, I feel like my childhood is slowly going away.......... :(

Well you certainly could have been talking about Disney acquiring Lucasfilm and all its subsidiaries back then, but not LucasArts being closed since as Dras said that was only announced like a couple days ago.

That actually could of been it, though I dont really remember. All I know is it had to do with Disney buying something of LucasArts.

Oh, yeah. It was Disney buying LucasFilm you're thinking of, obtaining Star Wars and associated properties. The closing of LucasArts just happened but it was on its way out...the whole Disney/Star Wars thing wasn't as sudden as people thought it was though, I don't think.
