I'm not sure if this was just a freak accident but my brother just turned his game back on to find that all of the progress he made is gone.

 

I felt kinda bad for him so now I'm playing through the main game so he doesn't have to do it all over again.

Of all the mega-evolutions in X and Y, my favorite is absolutely Kangahskan. Not only is the strength of its attacks doubled, but you also get a second hit of the same move in with the baby Kangahskan. I also really like the look of Mega Mawile.

Did he previously save in Lumiose City before turning off the game? If so, then that's the problem. It's a glitch that plagued the games since its release.

The patch wasn't out the last time he played, I think he finally started back up to install the patch.

I got lucky too, because my copy is government funded! I paid for it with my tax refund XD

If you want my advice, don't go too fast through the game! I missed lots of places/pokemons, and I was taking my time..

And start adding lots of friends early on! You'll need a lot to get a decent number of pokemons in the safari, plus getting those random O-Powers sent to you while playing helps a lot!

And super training your pokemons to the max early on can really help a lot ! But it takes a while. The mini-game is lots of fun though.

What is the difference between the Pokemon in X and Y? Is there a list somewhere I can read up?

 

Also, yeah I'm taking forever to get through it. I've been playing 22 hours and I only JUST got the second badge. I have over 100 Pokemon in my Pokedex, probably closer to 150 since I last checked but that's still with me like, going everywhere and trying to get as much as possible. I've only actually caught about 80, at least.

I don't know how to add friends and whatnot, teach me?

 

Also the super training thing, yeah I cottoned on to that early on but I've stopped for a while because I became overpowered for the point in the game. I'll resume it later on.

Well, the difference is mostly in what pokemons you can catch natively. Like for example, X has the arron line, the poochyena line, the houndour line, and its legendary is Xerneas, and etc.. While in Y you get the electrike line, the purrloin line, and its legendary is Yveltal, and etc.. And depending on the version a few things in the plot change, but its mostly minor. Nothing like in Ruby and Sapphire.

(Just for reference, the last gen I've played all games was Gen 3 still not done though, with some HeartGold in Gen4, and still stuck at the beginning of White (the pokemons at the begining besides your starter and lilipup are terrible at fighting!). So I only ever finished Pokemon Yellow and Pokemon Gold(I transferred a pikachu from a new game in Yellow and evolved him into a raichu XD )! )

Like they say in the review, if you find the game too easy, turn off exp. share!

And about the super training, you don't have to use it absolutely, but its gonna fill up anyways by battling pokemons, its just that you got more control on which stats are increased, without being selective about what pokemons you're fighting against. There's a really complex mechanic that makes pokemons with the same levels and species do differently in battle, the biggest factor is pretty much the EVs and IVs! EVs are what you train during super training, and you can always change them, with special berries or reset bags. The IVs are the pokemon's DNA basically, its a number from 0 to 31 for each stats that cannot be changed, which govern its associated stat's growth!

As for adding friends, you just have to add friends to your 3DS, and when they're online they'll show up in the PSS if you've activated the internet connection with the little blue button in the game. And best of all, you can add people who don't have pokemon X or Y and still get their safari zone, with one less pokemon though, but still!

I think that I really need to play more, in order to learn first hand. I got the third badge last night, the gym was a lot of fun. I really love what they've done with the structures.

And, I can understand, my first choice was X, but everyone I know has X.. So I went for Y. I still regret it a little.. It makes hunting for some of my favorite pokemons and their shiny version a little harder..

 

And its kinda hard to learn all those mechanics just by playing! They've hid them pretty well. I think they're doing it to keep the "perfect pokemons" out of reach of most people, just to make online battles less boring.  Like there's a NPC that tells you about your pokemon's IVs, but he's in Kiloude city, which can only be accessed after beating the champion.. It makes breeding pokemons before that point harder..

 

But to be honest, I kinda avoid online battles, given you can't use some of what you got accustomed to during the singleplayer game, like items, the affection mechanic(at least I think you can't given in the battle maison its all disabled, and its supposed to be training for online..) Though it makes the post-game a little less interesting, given the battle maison is all about no-fun-allowed rules.. I wish I could get the VS Seeker from Leaf Green back! Re-challenging NPCs you've beaten before is always fun!

I still got a couple, with more on the way! I just finally got 4 perfect IVs

All because I had the genius idea of breeding my Linoone with my best poochyena !

And if you have a aron or any of its evolution, it would be cool!

 

But, if you don't its all good!

 

And the trick of going to centrico plaza riding your bike and jamming a coin under the circle pad to hatch eggs works so damn well! It made things much faster and less tedious!

 

Also, Redeemer, I haven't seen you online yet, I don't know when you're usually around, but I usually play during the evening.  If you have a friend who wants to take it for you I could go with that as well!

 

And finally, am I the only one that thinks they really could have done something awesome if they had combined Pokemon Amie with having your first pokemon interact with you and follow you around like in Gold/Silver/HeartGold/SoulSilver ? I really miss that feature, it really made maxing out hapiness a little easier, and finding items a little more interesting.. Plus it could have been really extended and improved..

I still don't know why a ton of other NPCs in the games still do it but not the main character anymore.. In X/Y they can't even use the "its extra work to make the extra sprites" excuse because its a 3d model, and it can have LODs and such to reduce strain on the GPU..

For instance, why the fuck can't Garchomp learn fly? It's a jet dragon. Why can't Clauncher learn rock smash, the description in X literally says he can break rocks up close.

Yeah, pokemons that don't learn moves they obviously should is really annoying.. Especially when pikachu learns surf and etc.. Though even then, they removed from Raichu mega kick and mega punch for some reasons..

 

But the worst case I know of, is probably mightyena. I guess I must have rambled about it already, but, Absol and Houndoom which are both mainly dark type pokemons and dog/cat-like have much more moves and better stats and abilities than Mightyena. And for a pokemon named the "Bite Pokemon" it learns 2 biting moves ever, bite at level 13 and Crunch at 65.. Houndoom learns it at lvl 56.. And most of the others learn Crunch much much earlier, even krokorock learns crunch at level 28, and Ratata at 22(Gen 5 since not available in Gen 6 yet)... Growlithe at 39..

Plus Growlithe/Arcanine, Absol, Houndoom, Ratata can all learn a lot of TM/HMs and have access to a much larger movepool and slightly more useful egg moves.. ÃŒncluding Close combat for growlithe/arcanine for some reasons..

Its really annoying..Given its a decent pokemon, and unlike Ratata/Raticate you can actually fight with it for a while.. Until later in the game, unless you use lots of strategies, or just have 10+ levels over the opponent.. Plus they gave Absol and Houndoom mega evolutions to make things worst..

I feel they did that in order to confine it to "that pokemon bad guy uses", but its pretty dumb..

 

Anyways, speaking of which, I got to 5 perfect IVs on my poochyenas in about 2 hours or so I guess. Which is great! If I had actually planned what I was doing it might have taken less long.. But I got better poochyenas for those who wanted them. I'll try to breed them with thunder and fire fang as well. It might come in handy, even if its not all that powerful.

 

EDIT:

Well I got tired of trying to get 6 perfect IVs besides its not really important with this pokemon. But I got plenty of 5 perfect IVs poochyenas now. It might come in handy to breed any other pokemons in the same egg group and get easy perfect IVs if you want one !

 

@Redeemer: Btw, I'm still waiting to see you online to give you your poochyena ! Just send me a trade request once you're online, or we could also set a specific time, or someone else could take it for you maybe ?

So I have my own copy now, been trudging through the main game as fast as I possibly can so I can get to the real meat of the game and fight some old friends.

I mean, aren't online battles always the same ? Its always the same super tough pokemons that everyone uses and all the same strategy, and etc..

 

Also looking for someone with a Dark-type friend safari, that still plays the game once in a while, with mightyena in it, so I can get Moxie when they're online! Please ?

 

Oh, and did you guys see the Nintendo direct a few days ago, they're gonna give away a Celebi for people using the pokébank before September 2014. Even people using the trial version ! Celebi's not gonna be true to its, "legendary" title soon, given how common it will be ! ^^;
