Youtube and copyrighted music

Redeemer

Question

Okay. I'm about to do my first vblog after pressure from my fitness buddies at the fitness site I go to every day. They all want to know my diet secrets, bah. But anyway, I want to know what is up with Youtube and copyrighted music.

I see videos everywhere with it, yet some people are like "no don't do it because they'll take your video down". I did some research and found an article that states that recently, Youtube snagged a deal with a music distribution company that allows them to let their users use copyrighted music on the grounds that the artists are paid per view, and the link is attached to the description. Cool, I can dig that.

But I'm not sure if this is actually NOW, or is to be. Does anyone know anything about this? And how do I link a song to my description, so that it's linked to iTunes? You see those often in the bottom right of video descriptions.

Also while I'm at it, can I get into trouble for like, using a song ripped from a video via one of those mp3 converters? The song I want to use is too short, but there's an extended version on Youtube. o3o

It links the song automatically. I had a Lord of the Rings soundtrack piece playing in my creepy bandfic reaction video and Youtube automatically caught it and linked to it with its crazy internet wizard magic.

Holy shit I laughed all the way through that, well done Dras. XD And thanks for the info, does it recognise the song from the title of the track in your iTunes?

I would still like my extended song to be recognised for the sake of fair play.

Pftft* No, not anymore then owning a VHS copy of the Original Original trilogy of Star Wars as so decreed by Ass Lord Lucas.

Its fine, I use it all the time. As to which site, some work better than others. Obviously you need the current update of Flash to use it.

CRIES I JUST SAW THIS POST SORRY

uuuuh honestly I don't know how it recognizes it other than with Internet Magic...the music was combined with the video when I exported it as a .mpeg so I don't know how it would have preserved the iTunes information. I think it's some kind of creepy AI thing that samples the music and compares it to music it already "knows" and adds the track information based on that...it's why videos with multiple songs on it usually only have one listed in the description.

When I last uploaded a video I used a copyright music (I think) and I just put a "Disclaimer" on the video description. Don't know if that still works though
