Animal Crossing: New Leaf

The game has been out for a good week now, anyone else playing?

I'm on my fourth day now and am already working on paying off the loan for my 2nd floor addition. I also just unlocked the island so now I can fish to my heart's content.

Haven't picked it up yet, but I've got to say one thing.

Ever since it came out, people I know have been obsessing about it. But if you went to those people when the last three Animal Crossing games came out, they'd look at you like you were stupid. Now, they give my looks of shame because I haven't picked up the 3DS game yet.

Given how the games tend to go, I'll probably hold off on it.

I haven't played an Animal Crossing game yet. Is New Leaf a good starting point?

Yeah, with these games you  really don't need to play the previous entries.

Ohhh yes you do. There is a deep rooted storyline to Animal Crossing that I don't want any of you to ignore when purchasing this or any other games in the franchise. If I see ANY of you talking about gameplay and forsaking the character aspects, there's gonna be trouble.

I have no intention to play Animal Crossing ever again, really. I almost feel obligated to due to the fact that I've had one particular game running for years and there's basically a civilization there, but I honestly don't have fun when I do anything in it anymore, even though I wish I could. =/

Fffff I've been playing every day since the day it came out. I'm on the first house expansion, I've been focusing more on my public works projects and gardening.

There is an Arwing to be had from the fortune cookies (as well as Midna's mask/hair, a Master Sword, a Fire Flower, a ? Block, a Yoshi Egg, a Mario mustache, a Kart, which I have all of these, as well as things I undoubtedly have not found).

Speaking of which, there are playable NES titles to unlock in the Gamecube version.  This episode of PopFiction on GameTrailers goes into it rather nicely;

I could attest to that with my DS copy of the game. I've found enjoyment in playing it again oddly enough, but I still haven't felt a need for a new Animal Crossing game because other than small changes, the concept is the same. The game plays no differently between the first three entries. Guess I'll have to get a hold of New Leaf to really find out. It's Animal Crossing, the price'll drop pretty quickly after people sell their old copies, and I need an excuse to find a cheap, but playable 3DS game. It's hard for one to call their 3DS entertaining and awesome when the only game on it to play is Star Fox 64 3D. As we know, even Star Fox can get a bit tiresome.

The QR thing looks kinda interesting, and it seems the design patterns can be more detailed. Time to go back and work on my Scout/Guide patterns in that should I obtain this.

I was told the Animal Crossing games were like Harvest Moon, only dumber. :P Does New Leaf change it up or something?

While I can see why someone would say Harvest Moon and Animal Crossing are similar, comparing the two is apples to oranges. Harvest Moon is more goal oriented, designed to span a longer time in game in a shorter time in real life. Animal Crossing is pure interaction. Goals are largely nonexistent and are created by you, and the actual point of the game is just to interact with characters as you will, and of course it's unique for having a real day/night cycle that mirrors the real world time.

New Leaf does bring some new features to the table, but nothing that turns the series on its head or anything.

I never did care for the Animal Crossing series. It just looked too cutesy in an ugly way, and nothing big happening through me off even more. But thanks to a friend of mine, I ended up getting New Leaf yesterday. I'll admit it's a good game to turn to when you're stressed, angry, or just not feeling very positive. It helps calm you down. Made my own town, named it Corneria, and now I'm waiting for tomorrow so I can see my new house.

Also, does anyone mind explaining to me how you design your own clothes in the game?

Go to the Able Sisters shop and talk to Mabel.

And talk to Sable every day and you'll get access to the QR Machine to share designs and use other folk's designs, and talk to her daily some more and you get a Mannequin.

Anyone have fortune number 10?  Or Samus's helmet that they're willing to trade to me?  I have all the parts of the Varia suit except the helmet and it's bugging me.

I've been playing it since the end of June and I haven't really got that much done other than getting a second story onto my house and trying to save up for the Dream Suite. Other than that I just spend my days collecting bells and talking to the townsfolk. Really wish more people would move in.
