psy_commando Posted July 24, 2013 Share Posted July 24, 2013 I did some research on Killing Floor, and I really think the game is better-suited to listen servers. The fact that some of the mechanics are gimped if you mod your server to allow more than 6 players really makes me think twice about running one. I'm always game for some BF42, but people need to commit. The game is so much more fun when there are more than 4 people on the server. EDIT: I need some numbers. Added a poll. Also, if the current game times don't work, I can change them. Well I know that some of our European members would want to play, but its really too late for them. However I doubt earlier would be very practical for people around here TF2 is the poll leader right now. This brings the obvious question of "Why is no one showing up for game nights anymore?" IMO, I think its because its really frustrating right now. Partly because, really often, when we're a lot of SFOer, a few good players basically make one team win constantly. And I don't know about you guys, but I'm stuttering like hell, only when I play on the SFO server. It really takes me a while to convince myself to join up. I mostly do it just to see you guys though, even if I'll end up being canon fodder ! However, its a little sad that some of the regulars have stopped showing up ! I really do appreciate that you're running this event and the server DZ. But personally I think you're not getting what you're paying for, if the issues with it are widespread. Right now, I am hosting a Minecraft server that is running the FTB modpack Mindcrack, I rent the server for the use of my Minecraft community, but nobody uses it at this moment, so the account can be utilized for vanilla or any other mod. Mindcrack is fun once you get past the initial learning curve. I'm willing to allow members of SFO to use the server, as my group is no longer actively using it. I can turn it into a private/public server ( I use a whitelist/ranking system to keep out griefers) that all can use, or I can cancel it. I pay $30 a month for the thing that nobody but me uses. I still play, but not for the monster sessions that we used to pull.We do need to play more maps, but at the same time, we have to stay on stock maps to keep pubbies flowing in. Except for the fact i'm pretty sure we could mod TF2 with this as well (Or GMod?) with our infinite knowledge of voodoo magic that we have. Ok...maybe it wouldnt' be as good as I am imagining it, but it would be pretty cool to stage a fight on some fabricated Saurian level or something in the Great Fox hangar.... DZComposer Posted July 28, 2013 Author Share Posted July 28, 2013 I upgraded the server. When it comes back online, it should have three CPU cores and 5GB of RAM. Hopefully that will help with the lag. It's only an extra $10/mo. When I move the website to AWS, I will still come out on top overall.Also, Minecraft has broken away to become a solid second place.Also, for those that play TF2, please commit to playing on game nights for as long as possible. I just learned that Steam punishes servers where people only connect for just a little while.
