FEEDBACK PLEASE: Server Changes

OK, so the poll has concluded, so I have made some decisions.

The top two games were TF2 and Minecraft.

Here is what this means:

1. TF2 is staying.

2. I will open game night times to suggestions again.

3. The server has been upgraded to hopefully reduce lag.

4. I am looking into setting up a Minecraft server.

Any Minecraft server will be using CraftBukkit Stable Builds (Which means no 1.6 just yet).

What would you want to see in Minecraft? Game Modes? Mods? Texture sets? Whitelist only?

In the case that Minecraft and TF2 do not run well together, which would you prefer to be the primary game?

Great that TF2 is staying!

I like the current game night times, but I'm fine with pretty much any time so I hope we can work something out to get more people.

Personally, a Minecraft server will be loads of fun!

I kind of like the servers that mix creative/survival. The moderators can have creative and stuff of course, to set up a main hub and all, but regular players can climb through the ranks to get a few creative-like abilities to help you with building.

BUT, the normal survival mode is perfectly fine too. You can still make some pretty cool stuff and have a real threat too. :D

I think Minecraft is at its best when you have multiple people working together to gather food, supplies, mining together, etc, instead of the typical MC server's survival mode being: KILL PLAYER, GRIEF, STEAL, KILL EVERY PLAYER, KILL THEM AGAIN.

As for mods and all that, I don't know. I do like the factions that some servers have, but it encourages you to kill other players and that's what I don't like. I like to be able to claim land so that people won't (intentionally or unintentionally) break your stuff, and I like the factions because it lets you get a group of people you can trust and work together with them and have fun.

I don't know whether the server should be whitelist-only or not. Seems like that might make it like the TF2 server is currently, heh.

Although, we don't want dozens of griefers coming in all the time, but I doubt the server will be that popular.

I'm happy with these changes and I hope to see it all come together soon!

TF2 staying is awesome. SFO is really the only reason I play TF2 but I still love it. Hopefully we can get it revived a bit.

For Minecraft, I'd be inclined to say vanilla survival to be honest. Either that or Minerarria, which as the name would suggest, brings elements of Terraria into Minecraft. Not sure if it's compatible with whatever build we're on now though (haven't played in ages, since 1.4 I think?).

Either way I'm excited for MC. That's going to be loads of fun. I find faction systems and the like restrictive and confusing, as well as sometimes sort of daunting to get into. Back when I played Terraria with Scourge and a couple of his friends we didn't have any of that faction/mod nonsense. It was all an honor system. You break/steal, you fix or get kicked. It worked fine. I'd say whitelist it though. Don't want pubbers/6 year olds coming in and jacking shit up.

Wait... now think of the fun we could do with this. :troll:

Other than that I agree with Lone, Vanilla teamwork style. Then we shall build the skyscrapers and dominate the empty forests!

Now who want's to buy Minecraft for me? Anyone?

How much is it?

I figure we probably need an incentive to HAVE to work together (example, if the creeps were hella hard) on the server, or some moderation that allows PVP from time to time so we can make random alliances and duke it out from our fortresses on actual "game night" while also trying to fend off the creeps.

I was thinking of an area around spawn that would act as the main town. One of the ideas for a building was a PvP arena.

As far as protecting things, I will use WorldGuard. It allows you to claim property and designate who you want to be able to edit it. You can even disable TNT from working inside your buildings.

The websites says something about 20 euros.

I mean If I can get the money and apply for a debit I'll be able to join you all.

Sounds great to me. Factions and all don't have to be in the game. As long as you can protect your own area and share it with people you trust, I'm happy.

Euros? Whats that sorcery? Do I use it at the arcade?

I'll see what my bank account looks like when the server comes online. I'm feeling generous to the cause

I really don't know what to say. I honestly feel flabbergasted.

The problem is that I'm Dutch and when people are generous... we feel guilty until we pay them back. So I owe you one.

And some cheese, coffee and wooden shoes.

This has my full support, as well. I used to host a small server for a couple friends earlier this year, and we had a blast. :P
