Thinking of getting a tattoo

Harlow

Recommended Posts

Something symbolizing ambition and strength, will to own the world...

An Ankh, Horus' Eye or a lion's eye are huge contenders. Most likely with an earth-type color. But I'm open to suggestions. Maybe I'll fidn something perfect, who knows?

For those who know of this: Something I need to know abotu tattoo care? Something I should be aware about or do before the prodecure?

First off. It will hurt. There will be blood. I've seen uncles and cousins alike say that, at first, feels like a operation without anesthetics but after about 5 minutes it doesn't hurt as much.

And for your top picks. They're very common choices if you are aiming in the unique direction. A strong tattoo for an option is a triangle. Strongest shape. That and triangles aren't square

Don't forget to post pics of the final product.

I know they will be pain and I will be preparing myself for that.

It's not as much the uniqueness of it itself, but is what I feel would symbolize what is stated. The uniqueness will come for how it's presented. And yes, triangles aren't squares.

My friend made up a design for her tattoo and kept it for a year. Her idea was that, if in a year, she still could see the picture on her body, that she'd get it done, and she did. This sounds like a good idea to me: you want to make VERY SURE this is something you want on you forever, that you know what it is and represents to you, and that you are willing to dole out the pain and cash for it.

Once you're 110% sure you still want your tattoo, just make sure you find a reputable tattoo shop (this might require a bit of local research). Any worthwhile artist will clearly instruct you on aftercare.

Yes, the "forever in you" thing. I know it's not something that sounds like a good idea at the time. E.G

The designs I said are things I'm completely comfortable with (and anyhting happens, I will get the most info I can from them out), since they symbolize what I want and most likely won't be taking a bad turn. I don't have any definite art yet, but I have time to elaborate that and get something I'm comfortable with.

I recommend asking the artist to sketch the tattoo design first to make sure his skills at doing it are up to snuff and for worst case scenario, he does the drawing good but botches the tattoo, you'll have a stronger case in court, which is good because if you think tattoos are painful and expensive, you're just gonna love tattoo removal. Other than that, yeah, make sure it's something you won't change your mind about down the road, and plan for how that body part is going to look down the road.

I have 3 tattoos, one on my forearm on the underside, and two on my shoulder.

None of them were like, painful? They were irritating, and there was a little blood on the shoulder ones but otherwise, not really that bad. Plus you adjust to it within like, a minute.

I recommend that you get a picture of what you want drawn for you, to your liking. Not all tattoo artists are good. With mine, I drew them and they transferred them onto a template and inked over that. It's much easier for them, and it's also exactly what you want.

As Dras said, look into good places to get it done. Cheap places are tempting, but they're most likely below hygiene standards and the artists might be pretty poor with a needle. Go with quality, not bargains.

Finally, after it, you'll itch like a bitch in heat. You'll want to scratch and even when you're in the shower, you'll want to loofah that badboy so much, the thought of it will do questionable things to you. Don't. You'll disturb the ink underneath your skin and you'll need it corrected, plus if it smears, you're stuck with it. Invest in a calming cream, preferably for sensitive skin. Baby lotion is the best, I've found. Keep it moisturised, and when it starts to flake, DON'T pull them off. Let them fall off themselves.

If the itching gets uncontrollable for you, which it might if your skin it sensitive, cover it with baby lotion and wrap cling film on it. You'll actually come out of the tattoo place with it wrapped anyway, and you'll need to keep it on until the next day, but you can use this method again to ease itching and hold baby lotion over it to help healing.

To be honest I've considered getting tattoos, and if done right I love the way they look. Ensure you have a very good design and a better artist. Remember that if they botch it it's on your skin semipermanently. Otherwise go ahead and express yourself. Where were you thinking of getting it?

Any idea about the time span until it's completely healed and can resume everyday life?

Apparently it's at 2-3 weeks.

Mine took about 3 weeks, all three of them.

Think I got the definite design: It will be a standard ankh (a bit on the tall side, a bit wide too) with a double-bladed kind of effect (image to reference of said effect and shape respectively) to give it some lightning, on black or deep blue.

I think it's a simple, yet creative design, and I really like how it sounds. Hopefully it will look as great

I don't know if anyone's touched on this yet, but be wary of where you go to get it. If you can, get someone who has a few tattoos to recommend a place/person to you. If you can't find anyone, ask if you can see a sample of the artist's previous work before jumping into it. you'd be surprised at how easy it is to mess up a simple design.

Omg please post pics! Even if it's still in the cling film wrap! I can't wait to see. :D

Also. Some tattoo places I've seen in the U.S. use inks with a heavy metal base which isn't good ink and can cause health problems. Look out for places that use this kind of ink.

  • 2 weeks later...

Got green light. Tattoo is a go.

About the place. It's a tough debate between Dharma tattoo(a place I picked based on reviews) and the place where my sister got hers (which they did pretty nicely). Then it's all about the price, but I'm hoping Dharma gets it, A lot of reviews gave them great remarks and practically never seen a negative response. We'll see

I'd go for Dharma then, but go with what you're comfortable with.

Fresh out of the parlor. Love the end result. It was painful, but in a different kind of way from expectations. Once you got the outline, the rest comes in easy. I'll try to post the pic asap, but I have to find a way around this tablet. But the pic is a go.
