FileZilla (and some other SourceForge-hosted projects) now bundles adware.

If you use FileZilla for FTP/WebDAV/etc. it is time to find a new client. They have gone to the darkside and started bundling malware. SourceForge facilitated this, and other projects are sure to do it, too.

Seriously, these people have guaranteed a spike in forks by doing this shit.

Anyway, to the point, SourceForge is now like Download.com and should not be trusted as a source of malware-free software.

That's lovely, I use FileZilla. What would be a good recommendation for an alternative?

I've used WinSCP in the past for FTP. Its clunky and not as pleasant as FileZilla...but I guess at this rate its at least not FileZilla.

Do you figure if I have old installers for FileZilla ill be ok with using those?

Is Filehippo considered a safe site? I would recommend it if I could confirm that.

FileHippo seems safe as far as I know. There's also mega.co.nz, dunno if related to the departed MegaUpload and I've found that MediaFire isn't too bad. I do have to say that I'm speaking from a downloading perspective. I don't host files on FTP sites.

Still, I hope this helps.

Everything on this site was uploaded using FileZilla.

I'm sticking with an old version for now. I'm sure someone's gonna fork it over this at some point and I'll switch to the fork if that happens.

I'm still using an old version as well, I won't be upgrading it knowing that malware/adware is bundled now. I use Filezilla to upload files to my Minecraft server, my game server and my webhost. Filezilla is just too easy to use.

Well if SourceForge facilitated it, then won't that affect other web projects that use SourceForge to upload their files? (Audacity keeps their installer on SourceForge, so is it likely files such as that could contain malware now?)
